What you said about the dirt that the farmer walked upon is a lesson I learned myself. Until recently, empty bottles meant nothing to me, they were worthless. After I started brewing (for fun), I become excited whenever I get my hands on an empty bottle - after all, it can be used to store what I brew! What I learned is that a thing's value is based on how it could be used. The more life experience you have, the more valuable the world and the things in it become, which is why I highly encourage everyone to be open minded and try different things. It teaches you to view life from a different perspective.
I feel like I relate to this guy on a spiritual level and he was a great philosopher. The importance of beauty is often underestimated. If people dont see the beauty in the world they may not get the feeling there is truly something to protect and something to live for. We could fail to save the world because too many people found it not worth saving and making an effort. A lack of beauty and lack of hope is dangerous. And beauty makes life feel meaningful and and actually worth living. Beauty is there originally in nature but humans often ruin it. Tragic life, I feel sorry for what him and his friends went through. At least he didn't completely lose sense of hope
I haven't read The Idiot yet but the character of Alyosha in The Brother's Karamazov wonderfully encapsulates this philosophy-- an inspiration to pursue beauty and truth in a world made ugly by men. Thanks for the video, it was good work.
Strange, I thought of that phrase yesterday. I read the book 20 years ago. And now this video is suggested to me. Since I read the book, I have always understood beauty to be synonymous with truthfulness.
Beauty has already saved the World. But the World never accepted it. Only those with have a heart of a Child are able to see it and accept it. But for those who haven't grasped it yet, there is hope because indeed, "Beauty will save the World."
Given the fact that Dostoyevsky had a deep belief in God, and that in theology God is described as the True, the Good and the Beautiful I think I understand what he meant by saying: ,,Beauty will save the world.”
I also believe this is what he meant. However, I tried as per Dostoevsky's message to make the message beautiful for everyone while also subtly incorporating what Dostoevsky actually thought.

I’m about 3/4 finished with The Brothers Karamazov, it’s an incredible novel. Beauty has indeed been a lost element, especially in today’s modern times. I love how unironic romance is in classic novels like this one. I got that sense from Hemingway as well, Romance was a real and true thing that was embraced and revered as beautiful. In the last 50 years or so it’s become something joked about or just sort of nonexistent. Sitcoms ruined romance. The meaning of love in a spiritual form has been watered down so incredibly since the 60s. The word needs true, unironic beauty. It exists, the world is beautiful and the more time goes by in my life the more I revel in it.
Grace, symmetry, order, symbiosis, art, creativity, passion, .. symmetry and beauty, even in the arts, mathematics, sciences, engineering, and more, ... Beauty of the soul , harmony, systematic order... Beauty can be manifest in all these things, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically Though in terms of metaphorically, I cannot see any immediate benefit other than a sentimental type value, however have 'beauty' as the basis for our approach to life, and in all things we do... In this, I can understand
Absolutely stunning material here. His profound revelation really opened up an interpretation for life that so many ignore in which they lack the ability for potential betterment of their situations and circumstances. A genius philosopher who may have seemingly suffered from certain harsh life events bestowed upon him but it did not break his spirit for its beauty is what saved him. Dostoevsky is a true gem to learn from
Beauty and creativity go hand in hand. Our problems are an opportunity to build a solution. Solutions are an epic triumph of order over chaos. When trouble is encountered, and creativity is summoned to dispell it, beauty is the result. When you see a beautiful work of art, consider all the trial and error the artist must have gone through to attain those skills. Any great work required pain and sacrifice to make.

Did you know? Dostoyevsky was inspired by Friedrich Schiller’s (1795) argument that beauty enhances our moral sensitivity. Russian intellectuals, deeply moved by his poetry, greatly admired Schiller's work.
Beauty too can improve humanity as a whole due to the fact that if a beautiful person were to appear to a not so beautiful person, the person will feel inadequate and most likely will imitate that beautiful person and even surpass it and one day someone will surpass that person too and the cycle will continue until the humanity itself embodied "beauty".
Thank you for this very well done presentation. I recently told a philosophy class I teach that I (unfortunately) can resist truth, but beauty is much harder to resist.
Definitely a great video essay. The opening was great, it took us very quickly into the early life and years of Dostoyevsky, most people would take a couple of minutes to narrate that, but here it was done in only a minute or two; not to mention, the quotes supplemented the story, great opening. I believe it starts getting a bit tricky with who said what at about 2:00 as many characters are introduced with a very brief introduction, if lengthened it would accentuate the chronological understanding of things, unless a ring structure is desired. The ending clears the fog in the aforementioned as it repeats the names and gives far lengthy introduction of the people mentioned, it also loops finishing any unfinished topics such as the execution. One of the things that I really enjoyed was ending the video by a deep, chilling quote by the man himself. Overall, I loved the ring structure and I was very impressed by the editing. I would say if you were to give less context in the mid-video and let all the empty knowledge complete in the end it would perfect the ring structure of the video essay.
the reference to Bosh's painting “Seven Deadly Sins” is crazy, I really loved it. I never write comments but for this one yes. fantastic idea, really. Thank you❤❤

Beautiful video, editing, theme, subject, great work brother. The beauty of your work has given me a sprig of hope where I have recently experienced death and lost of an aunt. Thank you
To see the beauty in suffering, sorrow, heartbreaks, failure is the "beauty" he is talking about.I had a time period in my lifetime where I could see this beauty!
I'm convinced that if there were more beauty, human experience and life would be enriched, and out of that enriched experience would come a greater empathy and appreciation for other experiences (other people, for example). As Pierce Brown writes in Red Rising, Death begets death begets death - but the opposite can also be true :enriched lives beget enriched lives.
I absolutely agree. I even think the overall sense of beauty people have on a large scale, could determine the fate of the world. Whether people truly have a sense of there is something to protect and preserve or they dont see the point. It can hugely impact what effort people make, what they value and how they act. Valuing life itself (whether were talking individual lives or species preservation, or the right for each one to have a good life and certain rights) requires seeing beauty in life. And I think people more overall content are naturally kinder (but some can still suffer a lot and yet have a lot of compassion)
Excellent…Your voice lends perfect clarity and context to such a piece. DIrect, no filler, and no feeling or opinion, just content as advertised. Excellent.
The editing, narration, quote examples are top notch! It's a great video in many ways. If one is already a Dostoevski reader they will agree on your points and find this video tasteful. For the others who are not familiar with Dostoevski's works i am sure that they are intriguied after this. I hope you keep doing this, really enjoyed it thanks!
For me, a piece of art that reaches the ultimatum is björk's vespertine At the surface it may seem simply about love but you should really analyze the lyrics in the second half through a philosophical lens I think those are some of the most mature ensemble of words ever written and the music itself is the sound of heaven
@@nickpeitchev7763 beauty is in the eye of the beholder Imo its not overrated at all because most people don't even care to understand the lyrics or the musical composition they just stray away in distaste because they think its "strange" Even if its not for you I think any true music lover can still appreciate its quality
Beauty really is something special. Looking at a vase of flowers can really lift my mood. Being in nature can relax me. Art hanging on a wall creates interest and is inspiring. I love to see it when people try to create beauty in simple ways by hanging a flower wreath on their front door or plants on their window sill. A dining table set beautifully or nice decor in a home. Everyone seems to be attracted to beauty even if they don’t appreciate it as much as others.
We should really take his mans advice he knew suffering his friend at 9 years old was raped and killed, he lost his mother and father at ages 15 and 17 his first wife died and 2 of his children died, he like many in this world was closer to pain than he would of liked so for him to encourage those to still have beauty (faith in a better world) when he saw first hand how ugly it can be is pretty incredible and says so much about how resiliant a person with hope can be
It's also important to understand what beauty is to yourself and who gets to define it. Because if we define beauty as a single standard those who don't meet it won't get the same right to life as those who do.
It’s not a fluke of nature that creatires of our Earth display beauty, a peacock’s mesmerizing feathers, the elegant bend in a willow, the poetic detail of a flower, a mother’s gentle smile. Beauty is value, progress, and possibly the meaning of life
I really feel related to Dostoevsky in the last part of the video; I may no have faced the exact same situation he had to confront, but I commited the same mistake that he's describing Guess, one of the worst things you can do to yourself is no giving value to life itself; yours and from everything around you I believe that I finally redeemed myself from that way of thinking, and surely took a long time to learn that, but it was very worth it at the end
"Beauty" is the ground of being; this is one way of experiencing it. It could also be called "Order" or "Perfection." It cannot be seen at all when reality is divided into beautiful and ugly. In traditional cultures the beauty way is the natural way of life. Seeing beauty is seeing the good and the true, that transcendent light holding all, denying none. Within this field beings may choose blindness to beauty if they wish. Blindness us war, property, competition, struggle.
honestly, this video was a beauty to watch, and I don’t know what else to say except that this opened my eyes, of course the quote may seem cliche, but it really opened my eyes.
My favourite quote of all time. I understand it deeply. There’s nothing like beauty that affects the heart deeply and for me it is the beauty of nature
I retired after working in refineries for over 40 years. About 5 times a week, I ride my bicycle through the vineyards near my home in northern California, and say to myself over and over again, "I can't believe how beautiful this is and how lucky I am to be here."
I recall driving home one evening when the sunset especially caught my eye. I’ve seen sunsets more beautiful or pleasing to the eyes before, but this sunset in particular was far more beautiful in my mind. I saw not only a sunset but God’s creation. I saw Gods face within the sun and its orange rays of sunlight which shined on fluffy clouds. It’s beauty made me cry tears of gratitude
isn't there a philosopher that equals beauty and good? what is good is beautiful, and what is beautiful is good. no murder in cold blood is beautiful, no blind envy, no hatred in the name of gods, no wild competition... saving the world, indeed, goes through committing to beautiful, quiet, well-intended deeds. do good and you'll do beautiful do beautiful and you might end up making the world a nicer place to be than it was
Beautiful people are the cruelest and most narcissistic, self-serving, complacent, and conceited. Regardless if their beauty comes from their background, family, house, inheritance, health, fitness, and/or education. They're garbage human beings who are extraordinarily haughty and unloving because they only see themselves and those similar to them as human beings. They neither love their neighbor nor their enemies if they are strangers to their existence, experiences, and appearance.
I could be wrong but I think Socrates and Plato were the first philosophers to connect goodness, beauty and truth. Even before them, the King and Prophet David wrote about the goodness, beauty and truthfulness of God in the Psalms.

God and devil are fighting there, and the battlefield
is the heart of man.”

Completely disagree

@@slavic_viking9638 cause it's completely subjective not telking about beauty
But it saving people
What you said about the dirt that the farmer walked upon is a lesson I learned myself. It teaches you to view life from a different perspective.

love this!!! love that you ave brewing as a hobby :))
the idiot is by far the best dostoevsky novel and i will not be convinced otherwise. it literally changed my life.
Я с вами согласен,это и мой его любимый роман...могу вам посоветовать русскую экранизацию "Идиота" только я не знаю есть ли она на английском..
Brothers Karamazov is in my top 2, The Idiot is great but doesn't cover as much as the brothers Karamazov
I read Crime and Punishment in my 50s. To this day, it is the best book I've ever read 📚 🏆
Beauty is everywhere - we just have to see/perceive it.
On the other hand: learning the lessons from suffering leads us also to beauty 🌷🌿
Спасибо!
Василий Розанов тоже интересный писатель. Это русский философ начала 20 века. Книга "Опавшие листья" и другое...
Truly the most incredible writer and philosopher
Many great thinkers!
Beautiful script and beautiful editing. Enjoyed it a lot. Thanks.

Thank you, it reminded me of something I had forgotten
❤
Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3
As an artist I've come to understand that because beauty has saved myself already.
Beauty is Jesus
Given the fact that Dostoyevsky had a deep belief in God, and that in theology God is described as the True, the Good and the Beautiful I think I understand what he meant by saying: ,,Beauty will save the world.”
I also believe this is what he meant. However, I tried as per Dostoevsky's message to make the message beautiful for everyone while also subtly incorporating what Dostoevsky actually thought.
@@Kessekom I’m sorry that this was your experience. But I’m a Catholic myself and my experience with Catholicism is the complete opposite. The joy, the beauty, the truth, the wisdom, the rich intelectual tradition, the deep understaing of the Bible, the inspiring saints, this is the Catholic Church I know. I realize that many people have unfortunatelly had plenty of negative experiences with Catholics, but all Catholics don’t necessarily reflect the nature of Catholicism. Please, just keep that in mind.
Indian scriptures have this dictum describing God - "Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram" - God is Truth is Goodness is Beauty, one and same.
@@Kessekomhow can you create God?? We are created in His image and by His love and grace Has decided to share all His glory, riches and beauty for free through the belief in His only son Jesus who experienced ugliness of humanity to create hope for us in faith in Him alone.

"Nothing ever ends poetically. It ends and we turn it into poetry. All that blood was never once beautiful. It was just red."
absolutely beautiful! I've been reading Dostoevsky since my family and I converted to Eastern Orthodoxy and the words "beauty will save the world" are spoken by my Priest almost monthly in his Homilies - such that it resounds in my mind almost daily as of late. I have truly been captivated by Beauty and am thankful for the minority that make reminders like this one. Thank you for the video, it brought tears to my eyes and gratitude to my heart.
Welcome home to you and your family ☦️ many years!
Beauty can be manifest in all these things, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically
Though in terms of metaphorically, I cannot see any immediate benefit other than a sentimental type value, however have 'beauty' as the basis for our approach to life, and in all things we do...
This is particularly well done. Production value is superb. I am a chaplain at an Episcopal High School. I will show this in chapel, and I think my 500+ students and teachers will get much out of this. Probably paired with Scripture from Ecclesiastes. I will credit your channel. Thanks for putting this out into the universe. If you ever want to collaborate let me know.
Wow! I'm sorry for responding to this comment so late. I'm surprised to hear that you enjoyed the video so much. Likewise, if you want to collaborate, my contact email is in my about section on TH-cam. Thank you for the opportunity, and have a beautiful day!
Did you know? Dostoyevsky was inspired by Friedrich Schiller’s (1795) argument that beauty enhances our moral sensitivity. Russian intellectuals, deeply moved by his poetry, greatly admired Schiller's work.
this type of content is so important, but it's sad to think that people don't care as much about it. keep up your work my friend this is great
Of course, they talk too much. Who cares about difficult words and concepts? It's stupid
Nice seeing a fellow Afghan Dostoevsky lover here
Failure to perceive beauty is a moral test . Thoreau
Thank you for this very well done presentation. I recently told a philosophy class I teach that I (unfortunately) can resist truth, but beauty is much harder to resist.
If I could like this video twice, I’d attempt to like it thrice.
Incredible editing and writing. Commenting for algorithm boosting
Very good work. I'm usually not moved by these types of videos anymore, but I think you captured something profound here. Thanks for sharing
Thank you❤❤
OMG, what a video. I had to subscribe. You made everything sound so poetic. You brought ~beauty~ to the message. Congrats from Brazil!
Beautiful video, editing, theme, subject, great work brother. The beauty of your work has given me a sprig of hope where I have recently experienced death and lost of an aunt. Thank you
Always keep your head up. Losing a loved one is always hard but in the end we all reunite in my opinion so don't worry.
I liked your voiceover, it does justice to each and every word, conveying its fullest meaning and emotion.
"what is sown in the earth is subject to decay, but what rises out is incorruptable."
To see the beauty in suffering, sorrow, heartbreaks, failure is the "beauty" he is talking about.I had a time period in my lifetime where I could see this beauty!
Thank you so much for the beauty in your heart. May God Bless you with many more inspiring moments.
And I think people more overall content are naturally kinder (but some can still suffer a lot and yet have a lot of compassion)
thank you for making this ❤
Good way of explaining man really appreciate the quality of the production of video ❤
Excellent video! Beautiful writing and editing.
Excellent…Your voice lends perfect clarity and context to such a piece. DIrect, no filler, and no feeling or opinion, just content as advertised.

The editing, narration, quote examples are top notch!
It's a great video in many ways. If one is already a Dostoevski reader they will agree on your points and find this video tasteful. For the others who are not familiar with Dostoevski's works i am sure that they are intriguied after this.

What a beautifully made video! Great content and commentary!
Phenomenal work! This video and your voice both are beautiful. Hope you make it big man. Subscribed
For me, a piece of art that reaches the ultimatum is björk's vespertine
At the surface it may seem simply about love but you should really analyze the lyrics in the second half through a philosophical lens
I think those are some of the most mature ensemble of words ever written and the music itself is the sound of heaven
Bjork and Madonna in one song is Perfection that can save lives.
Madonna????
Very overrated album
@@nickpeitchev7763 beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Imo its not overrated at all because most people don't even care to understand the lyrics or the musical composition they just stray away in distaste because they think its "strange"
Even if its not for you I think any true music lover can still appreciate its quality
Her voice is bad the lyrics are bad only the music is good
I’ve never heard of this man or his point of view. Thank you for bringing such a great topic to light
beauty will save the world as in 'those who have lost sight on it no longer can'.
Beauty and Curiosity are often linked, and the opening leads to a more spiritual path
Lovely video bro, the flow and simplicity of the script was wonderful
Beauty really is something special. Looking at a vase of flowers can really lift my mood. Being in nature can relax me. Art hanging on a wall creates interest and is inspiring. I love to see it when people try to create beauty in simple ways by hanging a flower wreath on their front door or plants on their window sill. A dining table set beautifully or nice decor in a home. Everyone seems to be attracted to beauty even if they don’t appreciate it as much as others.
We should really take his mans advice he knew suffering his friend at 9 years old was raped and killed, he lost his mother and father at ages 15 and 17 his first wife died and 2 of his children died, he like many in this world was closer to pain than he would of liked so for him to encourage those to still have beauty (faith in a better world) when he saw first hand how ugly it can be is pretty incredible and says so much about how resiliant a person with hope can be
this might be my favorite video on youtube thanks brother keep up the good work
It's also important to understand what beauty is to yourself and who gets to define it.
Beauty is value, progress, and possibly the meaning of life
I really feel related to Dostoevsky in the last part of the video; I may no have faced the exact same situation he had to confront, but I commited the same mistake that he's describing
Guess, one of the worst things you can do to yourself is no giving value to life itself; yours and from everything around you
I believe that I finally redeemed myself from that way of thinking, and surely took a long time to learn that, but it was very worth it at the end
This is a really well thought and made video! Thanks
Damn dude how did you learn to edit like this compared to your first video wow is an understatement defiantly subbing to this channel
That's one hell of a video for someone with only 4k subs good job man 💪
"Beauty" is the ground of being; this is one way of experiencing it.
I literally hit like and subscribe two seconds in because the VCR Tape sfx sounded so good. The editor did a good job

One needs to be able to perceive beauty, to recognize it. Without that, there is no point.

This was life. Life is beauty.
Beautiful! Well done, i thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you!
At last the most meaningful video on the Internet
isn't there a philosopher that equals beauty and good? what is good is beautiful, and what is beautiful is good. no murder in cold blood is beautiful, no blind envy, no hatred in the name of gods, no wild competition... saving the world, indeed, goes through committing to beautiful, quiet, well-intended deeds.
do good and you'll do beautiful

Wow. This was the best video I ever saw re: Dostoyevsky
