Hi Guys, I am 68 years old and I had a full-hip replacement just over 2 years ago. My hip had inhibited my life style in the beginning and I was not given any help regarding exercise. Furthermore I recall very little to no pain. Not sure why that was but kept myself busy. I am now able to get about with out any problem and walk at any opportunity.
I am not sure why this is but I have been very active for all of my life, and intend to keep being.
    Thank you.

You two rock! I am a fit athlete (racquetball and tennis) and at 52 years old I had my left hip replaced and I had a few in-house therapy visits; and now at 58 years old I will have my right hip replaced in 2-weeks and I do not have therapy scheduled. I have the best ortho doc...Dr. Anthony Bevilacqua and he will ensure that I am back to full swing...no pun intended. I appreciate your sensible post op exercises for rehab and I really like your humor. Just wanted to say thank you!

I have a few concerns 1) rotation of the femur rod immediately following surgery is this normal? 2)burning and stinging in groin area still post surgery is that normal 3) my pelvic bone was grated to create bone for hip replacement how often is this method use and does the ability to move about get better in time 4) constant spasms and pain in buttock is this normal. Developing pain in lower back w/ frequent bathroom use? I appreciate any answers and suggestions provided.

Thank you for sharing this knowledge on post op anterior approach hit replacement. I am 57 year old female, 5'3", 115 that enjoys tennis and racquetball and lifts weights so I consider myself in good shape with the exception or having bad genetics with arthritis. Left hip was replaced (anterior approach) 5 years ago and I am 4 days post op from right hip replacement, also anterior approach. Could you deliver a video on the PT for the first 10 days of hip replacement recovery? I have terrible swelling so I am confused if I should just focus on ice therapy and simple ankle pumps and glut squeezes. I want to do more but what about the hip (thigh and leg) swelling? What PT is there to reduce swelling fast so I can move on to next level of PT?

I'm 5 months out from anterior hip replacement surgery and am anxious to really start working out again. I'm in my mid-60's and used to be very active; hiking, skiing, even a little basketball. Most videos about this sort of thing focus on just after surgery - but I'd like to learn what I can do now. Is there a general time frame in which it's OK to open up a little, workout-wise? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have been doing over 5000 steps a day so things are going really well. The exercises I've been set by the physio now seem far too easy (I've been doing them 5 times a day and have doubled the up to 20 per set). What level of exercise would you recommend I move onto now?

Guys, Thanks for these videos. They're great. Briefly, here's what's going on with me. I have TWO Birmingham (steel-on-steel) hips. One is new. One is ten years old. I fear the older hip may be in the slow process of dislocation. I may have unwittingly helped the process of dislocation, by OVERDOING it on a leg press machine. Is this machine good or bad for hip replacement patients? I can walk four miles consistently with no pain whatsoever, and I do this every other day. The pain always comes later. Seems logical that an analog to your "marching" exercise is the stairmaster. Is this correct? Finally, I confess. I haven't done your recommended videos, some of which were prescribed for me since being post-op. Your advice is appreciated.

Question: if the hip operation was done in an anterior/anterolateral & direct approach, shouldn’t you avoid hip extension?

Paul Rock When you are walking up use your healthy leg first to lift your body weight. Do the opposite when you are walking down so that the healthy leg stays behind and controls your body weight.

My question: when you say "Don't do this" (example, cross your legs) is that forever? Or just for a while? When can I do those things again?

For at least 6 months but try to avoid it in your daily routine. There is a risk of dislocating the femur head from the acetabular space. But if everything is ok after the sixth month the tissues are healed quite good. Contacting you doctor will be a wise decision before you try some of these movements. He will know the condition of the post-operative hip joint and if needed you can get a x-ray to be sure that both surfaces are well healed and there is no significant risk of doing so.

How long are the limitations of movement. I mean how long do you have to wait until you can bend your legs those ways

    Hi
After 5 and a half weeks post op, I am carrying out all these exercises with ease. I have now been told to do squats. I know I'm not doing them correctly because my low back hurts.
Any chance you guys could show me please? Or, alternatively, direct me to an appropriate channel.

I'm 38. I got hit by a car on 8-4-2020. The Car hit me going 66 mph, while I was standing in my driveway. I had an aceatabular fracture, Pelvic fracture and my butt bone fractured. My CAT scan of my brain was normal but now I'm having trouble forming words and I studder. I do PT twice a week & for another two months. Three months total. I do most of these exercises, because I'm non weight bearing for three months. I can't walk. I have 15 screws (4" long) & 2 metal plates. 4 screws are holding my pubic area together. I'm so depressed. I hate this. I'm bed bound. I can't work. I don't have a social life anymore. Or a sex life. I feel like I can't protect myself, because I can't walk. I have no feeling in 3/4 of my leg because the surgeon cut the nerve. So it's hard to control that leg. I can't sleep because of PTSD and the sounds of the skidding tires on the road in front of my house. Everyone is my "slaves" because I can't gain my independence back & take care of myself, they have to do it for me 😖 life drags by slowly. My 39th birthday, I'll be in a wheelchair. So exciting.

But what about anterior hip replacement??

    • @davidhighfield4019
      @davidhighfield4019 8 ปีที่แล้ว

MedStar Orthopaedics, Union Memorial Hospital Baltimore publishes only two anterior hip replacement precautions:
      (1) Avoid hip extension. Do not step backwards with the operated leg (2) Avoid hip external rotation. Do not let your foot/leg turn outwards. Do not pivot on the operative leg while turning.
Otherwise I understand that this hip surgery allows for less structured PT and precautions because recovery is rapid. I'm a future hip replacement patient and look forward to your video.
