The thinner the pump the better and easier the suction and you’re less likely to pick up stones, but it is a bit harder to locate the web so it’s just getting used to it and you’ll get it in the end

Veg oil is palm oil which is also a polutent. However if you were to travel asia and see the damage caused by people cutting down the jungle to grow rapeseed. Then I think you would be more concerned than washing up liquid, which all ends up in the sea anyway.

3 inches at a 45 degree angle and a depth of 6 inches would put the tip 1.5 inches past the hole.
