Nice video; very helpful. If this seal drips a little should I dismantle and re-grease? The boat is new to me and I'm not sure when it was last replaced but I'm pretty sure its dripping.

Nice instruction, Geoff. Thanks. I note that your replacement part was from Orbitrade rather than Volvo. I'm considering fitting an Orbitrade seal with the vent pipe option to my Westerly Merlin. I'd be interested to know how your seal has performed after a couple of years, and also, why you chose not to specify the vent pipe version. Cheers.

Geoff , I don't know for sure , but if the bearing inside is water lubricated , should it have been greased , I thought the grease was just for the outer seal and applied once the whole unit is in place , as you did right at the end . ?? Be nice if Volvo had more precise instructions .

Nice, I just replaced the shaft but have not burped or greased it properly, thanks for the tips I shall do the same.

Good instruction. I was uncertain how to use the yellow thing.

Thanks Geoff, I am thinking about fitting one when the boat is next out of the water. Would you turn the camp through 90 degrees? Wondering if that would give you easier access with your spanner.

I think my main problem was using only one hand. I only use my phone but do see other youtubers using tripods and head bands. That maybe the way forward. I would advise everyone to fit one of these. No more messing with stuffing and wet bilge, no more having to twist a greaser every few hours. Only squeeze a bit of grease in every year. It was easier to fit with the engine out not always an option for others.

I see you had plenty off space to work there Geoff. Not so the one on my Westerly Griffon! Very, very Tight space looking in from Starboard Cockpit Locker, but it seems to be OK. Doesn't need replacing yet.! Cheers, G.

There was no engine in it and the steps where taken out massif refit. My mate lives on a Dutch barge you go down a ladder into the engine room. Stand up and walk around. Now that's what I call space

Great video.. would you know what the service life of the rubber seal is?

They recommend you grease it every year and give it a good look over after 5 years. I had one on a previous boat for five years never a drip.

I hope the seal installation was successful, Geoff. I have found an installation manual that states that "6. Carefully clean the part of the tube where the seal is to be fitted and the corresponding surface of the rubber seal. --- Important! In order for the seal to attach properly to the tube, all traces of grease must be removed." It seems that you applied grease... scource: www.generalpropeller.com/pdf/Volvo%20Penta%20Shaft%20Seal%20Installation%20Instructions.pdf
