But you still can't sugarcoat the fact they are held captive totally against their will just for human entertainment. Only case i really support this idea is to reform decimated populations of local wildlife, like pandas in china for example

The beaver is Canada's national animal for two reasons:
    1. It was the major cause for the fur trade which first opened Canada to European settlement.
    2. The beaver is a symbol of hard work - it works endlessly to build and maintain its dams

I'm from argentina, the "Hornero" is an amazing bird which builds his house from mud, which hardens with the sun and becomes a "house" in the full sense of the word. Hornero nests need no shelter from rain or sun. These nests can survive many years and are often even used by birds of other species when they find an uninhabited one. They represent hard work and craftsmanship. Thanks for featuring argentina!!!

      You can't compare them realistically.
Maybe his relatives don't live long, the life expectancy in his village is low or he is experiencing other proplems.
I shall assume you are American (you have the most stereotypical name). Two very different worlds.
America is shit to live in, but it can be heaps better from a rural village.

@@marialindell9874 number 1 I am Canadian, and the fact is even a hardworking farmer can live well into his 80s....
My gr gr grandpa who toiled the land in England, plow and horse, by hand, very much like Babu does , he died at 86 in 1916.
One never knows life expectancy, sometimes living the hardest of lives, gives a person the strength to forge forward.
Just saying we never know when our time is , instead of focusing on getting old, embrace where we are in the moment.

    • @marialindell9874
      @marialindell9874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@terrylynn9984 Life expectancy does matter and it does work. You can't just ignore it.
If Babu's relatives usually die at around 70 years old then he most likely will too.
Because the women of my family live very long, we can say that I most likely will too. At the same time that number is brought down because there is plenty of genetic illnesses that run in my family.
He has already lost a lot of weight and is underweight for his age (a sign of declining health and aging). I wouldn't be suprised if he died tomorrow. He also looks way older than he is. I would have guessed around 75-80.
Depending on how sick he has been during his life, how at which age people in his village and family usually die (and of what causes) and what his health is right doen will give us a pretty damn realistic age of death. Maybe it's not 64 and it may not even be 80.
With old people health can decline fast in just a few years or just under a year. It's not unheard of.
I'm also from a farming family that has lived and still lives in the middle of nowhere (no running water at my grandma's home, in the middle of the woods).
I'd argue life here has been even harder. My family from my fathers side were literally beneath beggars. They fled from war and my grandma's mother slept with a wealthier man, had a kid from him and promplty died after caring for his first kids that were ill.
Mothers side has farmed in their property for atleast 100+ years although now we don't own animals and my grandma grows mostly flowers (too ill to farm potatoes and my mom is blind-deaf so she can't do it for her).
Cattles, sheep, poultry, horses. Everything done by hand. Every building built from own logs, stones and dragged in place with horses. All of the kids did atleast 8 hours of work everyday and were not allowed to swim at all in the lake.
All of the fields done with horses.
All of the houses have lived through atleast 4 wars, gone through atleast 6 deaths and 4 times have people almost died in there.
Basically my relatives and lineage worked untill their bones showed.
7 women dead before 40. 5 Kids dead before 3 years of age. All of the men dead and one in a mental ward.
The women who did survive to older age all lived past 90-100 years. All sick and ill with something.
So I can expect to live to 80-100 years but my last years would still be lived in extreme pain, suffering and being bedridden.
_Life expectancy doesn't just go away_ .
Babu most likely has very real reasons to worry about his death and when he will die. It's utterly foolish to say that "Oh, don't worry! Because X, Y and Z from a comptelety different continent and lineage survived you will too!". Don't give false hope.
Atleast here we don't sugar coat things.
I wanted to tell my now dead, abusive and alcoholic grandma that she should have died years ago but she had gone so crazy people just sugar coated everything.
Atleast my living grandma (though not any better) can be brutally honest and doesn't let anyone sugar coat her future because she has been working with dying people all her life. And she is more sound of mind than even my own parents.

Congo animal Okapi is actually a Zebra and a Giraffe at the same time:The okapi, also known as the forest giraffe, Congolese giraffe, or zebra giraffe, is an artiodactyl mammal that is endemic to the northeast Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa. Although the okapi has striped markings reminiscent of zebras, it is most closely related to the giraffe.

My grandma lives in Eura and they have been getting some wolf sightings in the recent years. The area is also absolutely filled with deer, elk and moose so you have to drive really carefully. Bears aren't a huge proplem right where she lives. (For context she doesn't have running water for an example)
Either way she has a gun license (no guns in the house right now though) mainly for protection against animals and originally for hunting. As they used to have lots of cattle, sheep, poultry and horses so they had to keep them safe and dispatch any that we're ill/too old. Also quite effective in driving thiefs away.
During the years in which the main house was not lived in actively, someone stole a tractor piece by piece. They could have gotten the whole thing in one piece if they wanted to.
Also when my mom was younger and left at home (an adult still, but she is deaf-blind by two proggressive illnesses) there were three women walking and looking into the yard. There was wood for building. My mom was effectively on guard duty as the wood could get stolen.
My mom had to drive them away, called my grandma right away (they we're doing some business) and said that there was suspicious people and gave descriptions. You know... if something we're to happen. The pretty much knew who the people were, knew who stole the tractor and some villager had effectively been planning to steal multiple things from the property.
Another time my mom was coming home. The house was filled with blood and my grandma had scribbled a messy note "At the hospital". Naturally she was terrified that someone was murdered. (IIRC if there was a gun back then she would have checked it) Turns out they we're cutting wood and got into an accident (something sharp absolutely pierced a boot through strong and thick boots) and they had to rush to the nearest hospital/medical center. Luckily my grandma has a medical education so she has had to save atleast 4 lives and several limbs while living there. If they didn't have a car they would have had to take the horse.

Yes...I saw the bull...but is not that representative because in not all Spain are "corridas de toros" and it actually ends killing the bull (who is drugged)....so I think we should be known by our other animals (iberian lynx, rabbits, quebrantahuesos, iberian goat, iberian wolf, iberian bear, iberian vulture, seagulls, lizards and other birds as Canary bird, abubilla etc)

Seems like countries choose their national animal by four criteria:
    - it's majestic (eagles, macaw)
    - it's dangerous (all the big cats, crocodile)
    - it played an important role in peoples everyday life (cows, beaver)
    - it's a strange bird or a kangaroo or a giraffe
And then there is Scottland, of course...

If I ran a country, the national animal would be a bumble bee. :)
A nation that is happy being very small and productive enough to cover its own needs (non-conquesting).
A nation that is dangerous if it needs to be, but gentle by nature (most capable army, treated best, but used most sparingly).
A nation where nobody owns land, and everyone has a home (bumbles take over other animals' used nests).
