    A few things:
    -your beard is amazing
    -your channel is amazing
    -CAD should invite you to their factory
    -You're the best Zach Galifianakis on the mic reviews side of youtube.
    Regards all the way from Brasil :)

    I love my E100s. I've been doing a lot of work on my OC18, but yesterday I was doing a commercial gig and there was something just not working for me on the OC18. It was a sibilance I couldn't control, and it was really bothering me. I plugged in the E100s, and BOOM. Great take! I hadn't used it in about a year, but now its back in the rotation.

    Hi Mike, I bought the TLM103 in July (60th birthday present to self) and I love it. What I did find is that the Sennheiser MKS4 shockmount for the MK4 and MK8 fits the TLM 103 perfectly at a fraction of the price of the Neumann shockmount. I'm about to order an E100SX and can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the great reviews.

    Hey Mike! I've been watching your videos for about two months now. You've taught me so much about the VO industry, and I'm happy to say that you sparked my early career in the audiobook recording niche! I'm currently working on my 3rd project! Keep doing what you do! Without your knowledge I would've never found out how to get started. Thank you so much!

      I am looking at purchasing a CAD mic or another mic and am working with about a $500 dollar budget for the mic as well and so I am really looking at this issue with the CAD mics. Looks like a great mic, if I could trust that I'd be buying a good one. Hmmmm....

    Hey Mike... I know how much you love your MKH416. How about a comparison with the new Aputure Deity which is designed to be a competitor of the 416 at a much smaller price tag ($360 for the mic or $430 for the "kit"). The Deity isn't a true shotgun mic, but is a supercardioid so it's a little more forgiving for being off axis. I'd love to see your opinion on how the Deity stacks up.

  • @othello7479
    @othello7479 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    First of all. I LOVE your channel. By far, you are my favorite VO on TH-cam.
    Secondly, do you have any plans for a shotgun mic shoot-out, e.g., MK416 vs AT875R?

    for me as a vo atist AND prof. Sound Engineer - it has to stand the test of extensive eq and multiband compression. For me Neumann often wins.

    I called CAD to ask about these QC issues posted on Massdrop, including the speculations that they may be shipping refurbished units. I was quickly transferred to the salesman who actually handles the Massdrop account, and he clarified that CAD NEVER sells refurbished units. Cool. Regarding the cosmetic issues ppl are mentioning, the salesman said "there's like one guy who assembles these microphones". That was an insightfully honest answer imo. Not bad, but certainly adds perspective.
    Sounds like a small company that is quickly growing and is trying to catch up? I hope. I have np with the product passing through one person's hands for final assembly - guitar companies, knife companies, etc, do this too. Hopefully they get a second pair of eyes though!
    Unfortunately, I didn't ask about the internal problem, the HISS that seems to plague so many e100s as an onset problem soon after purchase. It makes me wonder if these are simply USA assembled, but not made?

    • @AntAskew
      @AntAskew 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting to know. I can deal with a few scuffs on the mic albeit frustrating. Though I wish there was some way to guarantee no self noise on the unit. I really want to pick one up in the Mass Drop.

      Thanks for the reply! Interesting stuff! I'm thinking of looking into the NT1. It seems a shame when I paid a decent amount for my PR40 and the shock mounts and pop filters. I wish I could test it out in my recording space and see which I like the sound of with my voice.

    Hey Mike. Thanks a ton for your dutiful documentation. Your channel is such a goldmine.
    I had a question regarding recording into portable recorders. I've been considering minimizing the need for a noise gate by turning off my computer (and its fans) and recording into a recorder from my external pre ("bypassing" the recorder's pre). Do you know of any drawbacks there might be in recording my audio directly into a ~$200 recorder as opposed to recording via a good interface into my DAW (other than the convenience of a desktop interface)? I'm specifically concerned with audio fidelity. The interface I have (an Audient iD22) is able to completely bypass its preamps for when I want to use my externals, and I'm hoping that there might be a portable recorder that's able to do the same. I would guess that you can't truly bypass the pres in these recorders. I'd rather not have to choose only one between the two advantages: noise reduction or faithful audio capture.
    Thanks again!
    Nick

      @seandaeley7079 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Nick! I used to have an Audient ID22, and one thing you might not know, is that it will work with an ipad or similar tablet if you have the right connector. I recorded to and read scripts from my ipad using the Twisted Wave app, and then moved it to dropbox to edit on my laptop!

    Not sure if you've mentioned your current setup in other videos but what is your E100s going through? I have mine going through a normal Scarlett mixer and it couldn't sound any more different than yours (in a bad way). I am an audio newbie and would love to know how to get a similar sound if you don't mind. Thanks! Love your videos!

    When you turn your CAD e100s on, do you hear kind of like a wave of hiss the drops to silence, then the audio comes in slowly? Mine does this, and was wondering if this was normal.

    I hardly dare to say that, but the e100s seems more fitting to your voice, just a tiny bit. Considering the price difference, it feels like the e100s, again, for your voice and spoken word, seems a more sensible choice.

    I like the E100S Better, actually. The TLM has a wee bit of hiss when you talk. Could just be me tho.

    • @TheZeroSbr
      @TheZeroSbr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The TLM boosts the highs a bit more, judging by the frequency response charts. More clarity, but also more harshness.

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see your TLM has a dent on it. No more TLM103's for you, young man.

  • @SimulationKris

    They sound very, very, very similar. It's probably youtube doing something to the sound

    • @EmNudge
      @EmNudge 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They usually do. I know these videos are usually the best tests for them, but I can't help but think that youtube converts all videos into mp4s and the lossy compression also compromises the audio.
      Maybe if you had links to listen to the WAV file of the vid, before you turned it into a video, we'd hear a clearer difference.
