1972 Dodge D100: Cheap and Effective Truck Traction Improvements!

- On my simple and quick mission to Upgrade this 1972 Doidge D100 from field truck to Race truck, I address the rear suspension. I will mention HERE that the better way of doing leaf spring suspension is to call Calvert Racing and Spend accordingly.
I am providing you with a known version of Rear Truck suspension that is 1/4 the price of Caltracs and lets you still run around on the street without any negative penalty on suspension or handling.
Thanks to @talljohnsfunshop2722 for letting me borrow the 4.10 sure grip in this one, @rickseeman5679 for his help on the [project to expedite the process, and to @318willrun for keeping the drag truck alive.
Others like @UnityMotorSportsGarage better wath out for this old crispy Mopar to pass them at the finish line!
The looks of those traction bars is worth 4 tenths in your competitors eyes !!
Haha! It’s a little bit of pop in a sea of rusty blue
Anti axle wrap, lowered, weight transfer.
And Launch it procedure!!.👍👍
Great idea Joe. 💡
Thanks Ed! Keeping it old school and saving some money.
Hi 👋 MPRJ great effort once again… just wanting to know where you will be mounting the brackets for the parachutes 🪂 😆 👍
Take care, and may the Lord Jesus bless you always brother!!
I appreciate it! This one is a rolling wind block 😂
Good to see someone use traction bars !!! Got a set of chrome ones I’ve had since the 70’s !!
Awesome! I’ve had them work in the past with less power. Will see what happens here!
Classic! 👍
👍💪
Thanks brother
Clamp forward section of leaf springs.
Easy to do
Interested to see if it works. I put the rear end on top of the springs for a reason and you need shocks the limit the body thrust upward motion. Stock is to long. I would love to see you power brake it showing slapper bar reaction. So set up a camera and show that. I want to see that. My experience is when the axle is on top its like a car and under the pinion goes up but the axle twists down in the front. We didn't have cameras like today to watch it. A guy hanging over the box lol ya that's safe 😂
Love that truck !
Thank you!
That's trucks gonna be so cool... It's kinda like a "back to your roots" build.
Thank you Joe.
Thanks brother! I don’t miss my old truck, but I did miss having a truck 😂
@@JustMoparJoe lol! That's funny you should say, I just woke up from a dream about my old 78' W150 and I put a turbo on it and 2 cars tried to race me, one hit a bump went off the road and hit a tree and the other one blew up his engine.
Then I woke up.
Oh it's gonna be a good day I think....
Raising the bars
I see what you did there🫡
Custom, I like it. I know traction bars aren’t t the preferred method on Mopars but I think what you came up with will work nicely and on a budget. I almost thought I was watching Tim @ 318willrun.
😂 thanks brother
I had chrome traction bars on my 78 CL factory V8 Charger with a lot of modes to that motor and those rubbers on the those bars were hammered to death I think 💭 they worked she was A factory 4 speed only around 54 built in 🇦🇺. She was yellow ended up red with 🇺🇸strikers 8 half on the rear and 7half on the front gold centre and chrome dish. People say Tramp Rod don’t wonk but they sure worked on that Charger 😀she do 55 mph in lst 85 in 2 nd gear ⚙️ 110 mph in 3rd top 🤔. I’d leave the horse 🐎 stud were I work and lived about 2 miles of the main back road and never backed of to she hit 110 mph in 3rd basically all 340 plus on that girl. And it eat my mates E38 Charger and there quick . Tramp Rods to the front for a win . 🥇 MOPAR for life . 👍🏻🇦🇺🇺🇸.
Thanks brother! Sounds like fun!
Great job Joe....the truck should launch nicely....thanks🔧👍
Thanks brother. I will get some up close footage of it
Great to hear your opinion on the pinion!😊👍 Awesome traction modification!👍
Thanks brother!
You got it going your way now, keep up the good work joe.
Thanks Jeff! Will test it out soon!
Cool that's goin too be a fun little pickup 👍 👍 👍 👍
I think so too! Thanks brother
Yeah, buddy! Hookin and bookin! Thanks for the blueprint!
Thanks brother! Might sneak up on a few people looking so battle worn
That should help a lot to keep the rear end planted when you stomp the go pedal. Good work!
Thanks Mike!
I wondered what you were going to do back there. Very good!
Thank you!
Traxion Jaxon!
Nice 👍🏼
Sweet!👍👍
Thanks Lars!
Taking the definition "Made Outta Pure American Rust" quite literally!
The rust is outlasting the truck! Or vice versa 🤔
Only thing left to worry about is the piles of orange on the strip after your burnout!!! You don't got much left to do before that thing is ready to rip, brother. I think you made a passing mention in the last vid about adding weights to the rear, was that just a guestimate or a serious idea?
Thanks brother. Any weight I added would Be simple stuff like battery and fuel cell, further towards the rear. I did joke and mention that the tailgate was full of rust and dirt, so I’d need that weight in the rear anyway. I’m leaving the heavy gauge bumper in back. It think it looks good and will add some rear ballast.
@@JustMoparJoe I mean I HAVE seen guys fill them with concrete and use gate post latches... but those were chevy guys hahaha
Can't wait to see this go
Thanks grand
Bear down, bring leverage and launch
Good stuff, bro. Can’t wait for the next one.
Thanks Mike! I’m excited to see how it goes
nice job Joe! simple but effective traction mods!
Thanks brother
That should hook hard! I built a set of Cal Trac clones for my truck - with a 400 built much like yours - can't wait to see how this thing runs
Thanks brother. I’m hoping they last on a sticky track.
Question. Would adding a leaf stiffen it up and help or hurt what your trying to accomplish?
It could help, but I think adding the forward half of a leaf would be better, then clamping it in the stack.
@@JustMoparJoe we had the spring shop add extra half leaves to the springs on my friends 63 Galaxie, just like Mopar did with their performance models in the musclecar era.
I think she'll be just fine at launch!
Thanks brother! Will find out!
I had traction bars on my Valiant Charger, I took them off because they cept dragging and jammed on speed humps,😂didn't really get into drags, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Thanks for sharing, same to you!
After first round you’ll have time to work on that suspension 😉
😂😂😂 not scared to send it!
Good job, that set up should work very well
Thanks buddy!
I hope that you are planning on painting those traction bars black! Will look much nicer.
When I have the paint gun loaded 👍🏼
Lunch Break!!
🍱
Love it!
Thanks Tony!
Can't wait 😁😊
Thanks brother!
Haha. A guy has to make sure he’s got his nuts soaking for the shocks!😂
Crucial
On my 68 road runner I added a couple of leaves to level it up. I clamped the front and rear both. Do you know if it's better for the back of the spring to be unclamped?
I’m not sure on that one. I would like to try both ways at the track.
👍👍👍
The yellow adds a hint of sophistication I think 🤔
Food stamp four link!
😂😂😂🙌🏼
Mopar Joe what are them chargers interceptor? 440 and what about H.P. 160 mph?
Definitely have the new hemi in them. I think they can outperform 150 Mph
