It should be illegal to accept money from any foreign country or person
How would parties get money to run? Solely from membership?
@@lukeyraptor6738 yes membership and donations from British citizens
@@lukeyraptor6738 from membership, crosschecked to the electoral roll, is a good start. However there should be no foreign money influencing a country's government.
@@lukeyraptor6738crazy idea that parties should be funded by the people who support them
@@lukeyraptor6738 Uhhhh yes? Or have parliament set them a budget from tax.
I couldn't vote for Labour this year because they've put up a London based millionaire who works for a think tank, as candidate in my non-London constituency. Same shit different party flag.
@@mattym8038 similar where I am. Why the hell would I want to vote for a non-local candidate that I only heard about the month before the election?
Then your sitting back and letting our human rights to be taken away
Go and vote
@@user-hs1zh1se4cthey didn't say they wouldn't vote just that they wouldn't vote for labour.
At least its not the zionist Luke Akehurst thrust into North Durham by Labour
You voting for the Green Party then?
The state funding politics with vouchers and outlawing private funding is such an obviously good idea.
I don't want to fund Reform, or the Tory party for that matter.
Limiting donations and campaign spending is a better idea imo
@@plebjames you're funding worse things right now, like a genocide. Funding democracy that we disagree with is a much lesser evil than allowing the rich to bribe them and effectively lock out honest parties from politics.
21:58 TAX THE RICHHHHHH!!!! That’s all we need to see from our politicians.
Just stop the money going into politics … and please stop these corruptive practices … pass a law for heaven’s sakes .
No you stop it
Robin Williams once said for a start politicians should wear sponsor jackets like Nascar drivers.
It's hard to get politicians to legislate to cut their own income.
Our system has always always been corrupt Patrick...it has always been against the people. Restricting money in politics would take a massive movement.
The foxes aren't going to vote for chickens rights.
One of the best journalists out there, anywhere.
Fascinating. Fully expect the subject to be examined in depth by the BBC soon. Would give 1000 likes if I could bribe YT.
I hope that happens but you don't think that's going to happen do you?
@@fiver4249 Alas, I'm afraid, no. Stay strong my friend Stay strong.
BBC director is a Tory donator and is probably now donating to the Labour Party
@@DanPlimmer Is that the Goldman one or the Westminster Council one? I lose track.
Why isn't this front page news? Why isn't this ALL over the BBC?? Why isn't legally blocking ALL of this on Labour's manifest- oh...
Because Labour are going to be in power and everyone in the media is desperate to curry favor with them. No matter how bad they may be in office. It was the same when Johnson got in-people were too scared to point any of the corruption out.
I need to say, I wish you would devote a much longer period to some of these guests - understand it might not work for everyone but some of the guys you have on I could listen to for at least an hour, if not too.
Great interview, just wish it was longer!
im more disgusted by JUST HOW CHEAP corruption is in the UK than the fact there is corruption.. Corrupt politicians is par for the course but just how cheap they are is appalling
At least in the USA they charge a fortune for lobbying. The corruption needs to end
So why would Greedy self centered narcissistic people offer such great value for money? The only conclusion i can muster is for the most part our policy makers haven't got anything to offer because for the most decisions are already determined because the UK is part the 51st state! Our military bases are shared and you don't need to dig too much to realise our courts dances directly to the fiddle of the USA, just look at the recent Assange case whereby Julian is released on condition he signed a plea deal with American judicially.
I'm not sure if I agree. Maybe it's good that it's cheap, because it allows more people to buy in and creates a bit more diversity of ideas? Vs a very very expensive system that locks out anyone but multinational mega corps? Quite unfinished though of mine but that the way I'm leaning on that.
@@jessery475 look around. Think. And ask yourself, does what I see track to this thought?
@@randomname3109 it's a shocking thing, but is American size political donations better? If so, how?
Labour: So much change, it is the exact same donors getting what they want again. Starmer poses zero threat to this unsustainable status quo.
I'm not sure you understand. He IS the establishment candidate. That's why no one is challenging him in the media or in the corridors of power.
@@archvaldor I understand, that is basically what I am saying.
32:00 isn't Keith Starmer doing the opposite of this by bringing in big doners whilst the tons of members leave? So less democratic.
The issue with lobbying is its secrecy if the quid pro quo of politics became public and open it would be stopped because it looks disgusting to anyone.
If only the issue of dark money got the same coverage as Flutter-Gate is currently getting.
that - 'gate' suffix is one of the most tired headlines in journalism. In fact it's just plain fuckin' lazy lol !!!
If only we had journalism in this country.
You've just witnessed it. Mainstream? Perhaps not but it's out there
Bottom line: it's all about the money, maintaining the wealth and the profits of big corporations. The government can see that the policies they've advocated for decades are impoverishing the nation, yet carry on with them because they get kickbacks! Declaring a vested interest in a register no longer cuts it. We need a politician that is willing to stand up and say "No" to this.
Look into Labour backer Trevor Chinn...
Look into Reform backers...
Let's talk about KGB money for Cambridge Analitica and A.Bqnks...
Whenever I heard 'isle of dogs' I think 'yes, I love dogs as well'

There are also Arse Bots.
They are from low income countries and they are after your money. That's the where and why.

@@nathanaelsmith3553 I hadn't considered it but I don't think that would be the case for these type of bots.
this is great, we need more of a focus on money in politics. journalism is supposed to shine a light! this is helping me understand our electoral system so much better now. and you see the weakness of labour right now with their "ming vase strategy" while 20 points ahead is because this strategy appeases donors.
All roads lead to Rome, people: this is about rich people evading taxes. Tax 'em!!
Great piece glad this is being covered
Eye opening.
Brilliant video very informative
Shouldn't opinion polls be prefixed by who commissioned the poll in large letters ?
Great interview!
Corruption is THE biggest topic (eg climate denial) but is not high in the public's awareness.
Cap all donations at £200. Give instead voters "vouchers" for each political party, and move to a PR system like D'hont. Oh and a written constitution. The establishment wins every turn, it's the citizens/subjects that suffer at every election despite the party voted in
Could this be the reason politics has run out of ideas its more an art of back-room deals at Davos.
Aaron Banks is a name I havn't heard in a while. Didn't he give Farage £450k, a house and car after the Brexit referendum? Such a good friend...
Tax the rich properly. Then they won't have so much to "donate". Also: they'll have less wealth to protect in the first place and so less incentive to "donate".
Good interview.

It's funny that farage accepted over a 100 thousand pounds from a donor who has business in Russia

Labour want to stop MPs getting money for lobbying advocacy and 2nd jobs with vested interests.
Labour also want to investigate VIP lanes and reform HoL
So they do want to improve things
Some people in Labour have said that.
What they say, what they want, & what they actually end up doing are all very different things.
And what they say keeps changing.

I think he will soon be prime minister of little Israel the amount of jewish money in the labour party
This is a brilliant interview??
So it's a kind of patreon subscription for private interests...
Only just struck me, what if gamblegate used donner money rather than their own
Nah, they were only placing a few bets of £100. Standard Tory greed, idiocy and corruption, but very low level stuff.
If you are idealistic enough to believe any political party, with the way things currently are, can win anything without taking this sort of money then show me which party has managed to successfully do it.
This is just another reason why robust lobbying laws and PR are needed. Considering every political party does this, voting for one over the other based solely on that is a bit nonsensical. Vote for whoever you think is the most likely to implement PR and change lobbying laws if you want real change.
