WSB played exactly by the rules regarding gamestop. Gamestop is a good company with a new leadership and good prospects for the future. The reason the stock went up so much was not WSB directly but rather indirectly. WSB was able to hold the stock price at a higher level anticipated by hedgefundmanagers. The shorts that the hedgefunds bought, that needed to be covered, then caused the spike in stock price. This is exactly playing by the rules. For zizek something or someone that you love is something you've fallen into, in other words it's a sort of circumstantial accident that can't be described. If on the other hand you try to describe what you love and then set out to find that thing that perfectly follows your definitions you don't love the thing. Rather you love the definitions, or you love the contract. In this sense then a thing which you love, which is indescribable, that asks you to have absolute loyalty to it no matter what is to alter the love into definition (loyalty) and thus to transfer love into contract. Ergo a willingness to betray the thing you love must exist to demonstrate a true love, in other words a betrayal of the person in the name of the love for the person is the greatest act of love. How many of our own relationships become compromised because the love is not the highest element but rather some externality becomes the defining feature, and this immediately breeds resentment. I.e. we love each other, we're not really sure why but we're always excited to return to each other and sad to let each other go. Instead of I love her for her looks, for her job, for her intelligence etc. I resent when she no longer has her looks her job her intelligence. The claim here is that we might betray our love for ourselves or the thing we love, instead we should betray ourselves or the thing we love for the love itself.
