Now I understand why the Captain's attitude has been different during NAMM. We normally see him in "selling mode", now we're seeing him in "purchasing mode"...he's asking the harshest questions to make sure he can offer us the very best of what's available and for that I thank you Captain
Oh dear, you guys really look knackered in this one😮 ! I guess it was a long NAMM and hard work. You’ve done a fantastic job with all your vids. Thanks a lot!
Thank you Captain for beeing so critical! Im so sick of hearing this "now we got it" "its a gamechanger". Its like razorblade comercials. Line 6 naild it with the HX series. Much cheaper...much smaler and super nice for amp use. Now Boss wants 1k for a unit without a color screen?!?! wtf? And a "7cable method"?!?! lol.. years behind
But this isn't an HX FX competitor as that doesn't have amp models, it's a Helix LT one, and for that the price is pretty much the same. And the 7 cable method to use it with two amps in stereo, I don't know how is that a "years behind" feature. Also to be fair it's not like I'd care about the color screen when I'm on stage, but it'd be nice to have nonetheless.
Ádám Sárkány I just wanted to say, that line 6 is, imo, much more userfriendly. If you want the big helix..there you go...if you want a lt ..there you go. And now they drop the HX series. Sure...it is possible, that Boss will bring those products in the future, but i dont think, that they can compete...even with the big helix. Because of this i have said "years behind". And I thinkt the colored display is only to save some dollars on the production side and those things make me realy angry.
I just traded a black star tube amp, which sounded great, for this. Believe me, I was worried it would sound like the gt100 (it doesn't, it sounds better, by a lot) but i was also willing to accept that it might be inferior to my headrush. I'm pleased to say that this is an awesome pedal, and i will definitely be able to use it in all my bands. No shit, im pretty picky. I gave up the GT100 in less than a month because it felt like a modeler and sounded like shit when it came to OD or high gain. This unit sounds like its own instrument and inspired me to jam and make up tunes with a lot of its patches. I'm an intermediate to advanced player, play in alot of bands, play a good amount of gigs, and i can say it was a worthy trade. I cant wait to get to know this pedal. Yeah , its definitely not as east to navigate as my Headrush, but it is its own thing and is worth the time in learning how to navigate and operate. Bottom lines for me 1. Feels right, Feels good. 2. Sounds right, sounds really good. 3. small, not heavy, did i mention it sounds good?
I own a ZOOM G5N & paid £210 for it. The Zoom is an amazing piece of kit I've dowoaded £00,000s worth of kit & Artist custom patches that sound great! I'de like to see how this compares & see if the price difference is worth paying?
nicholas varey i have a zoom g5n like you and one gt100 (a great multi effect too, but more expensive... I think gt1000 will be similar in terms of sound). the gt100 have more options, true, but the sounds is great on both, and even i think that the zoom has more natural amplifier emulations and it is more intuitive... For the money, worth it i think
And nothing will change- floor pedals all the way - Fractal maybe- but I've had all the boss floor units and they all stink -$ 1,000 for this -get separate pedals
This seems like a nice step forward in the evolution of these all-in-one physical modelling units. The main new features I like is an improvement in the AD/DA, using the fastest chip possible, built-in isolation transformers and a bluetooth app.
This is by far the best demo I've heard of this unit so far from NAMM, just because of the fact they asked for a basic amp model with some reverb rather than an effect soaked, generic "lead" tone. It still didn't sound great, but I always take demos from NAMM with a pinch of salt and this at least showed some promise. Looking forward to hearing it in the hands of a number of different independent sources to get a better impression of what it actually sounds like.
Best I can say is they seem to have tamed the usual solid state fizz back to some bees buzzing in a Jar. Other than that, sounds like a big digital pedal.
You hit it right on the head Lee............It needs to be a Helix beater................hell it looks like the helix and the headrush, but considering that the GT 10 and the GT100 were so affordable this new unit needs to be something special.............Great coverage of the show as always, well done to you and all the guys!
I love Boss. I have many pedals and other gear. But this is not a "Helix beater" by any stretch. A nice board for sure, but the Helix is up there with the Fractal and Kemper. This sits somewhere in between.
Great work Lee. I had a Helix and it was / is awesome. It is light years ahead of this unit. I sold it because I realised I don't have enough time on Earth to be ARSED understanding it. I just want to play guitar and have some spare time left for living........good guitar, good tube amp, good pedals.
I own a katana and at 1/5 of the price I would choose the katana every time with the added ga-F.C controller Which i also have. The katana is amazing this really still sounds digital...I’m confused here...why is this 5x more...
Lee you said the GT100 was great!! Anyways I have a GT100, it suits me, but I would not buy another Boss multieffects pedal. Boss area hardware company, they do not care about their existing user base, just want to bang out the next pedal. The firm that will get my next big pedal purchase is the one that shows a commitment to firmware updates.
You are right, the real proof are super clean jazzy tones with a bit of compression, and there is no modeler nowadays that can deliver it without sounding fake and cold.
Kevin Rowland Yes! Thank you Captain! And, to be fair, the guy from Boss handled all of the questions gracefully and was informative. He knew his stuff!
I really have had my heart set on a GT-100 and wonder if any of the parameters or engine is similar and also does this feature a drag and drop touch screen?
I might say that all of these processors are basically using other words for COSM .. In Boss's case, here they could have changed the acronym from COSM to ""Bacon Butty"", It's just that I have heard better Bacon Butties than This in this price bracket, is all :0) ..Not hating on BOSS .. I have owned pretty-much all the GT's, the 6-8-10-100. Just unimpressed so far with what I heard with the GT1000. Maybe Anderton's can hunt down The Professor to do a deconstruct on this thing from the angle of diminishing returns.
That's not how feedback works... My helix does feedback if it's loud enough through my pa. All you need is for the volume of the signal to keep the strings vibrating.
Boss will surely not nail the "sounds like this amp" thing. They've never been good at that. But somehow, someway I've always preferred to play their flagship multi-effects (in a live band setting) over the line 6 stuff. Ofcourse we couldnt compare the GT100 to the Helix. But I'm ecxpecting the same thing between the 1000 and the Helix. Helix is better at home/headphones, while GT1000 is better live with a band.
Sounds better when Pete starts playing it. I am sure the effects are up to snuff but the amp models...we'll have to hear a long review. On the spot Namm for 5 minutes isn't going to impress me but we'll see. It's...maybe close to the Amplifire stock sounds from this video. Need a full review though.
I have used the Boss GT-5, 8, 10 and now the 100. for effects they are great, as a preamp they are pretty good, as DI amp modeler they completely suck. This had better knock my aunt Connie's socks off with a purchase price like that.
Had many a floor effects processor over the years, from the early Digitech RP1 to the Digitech GSP 1101, HD500X, GT-6-8-10-100 (do kinda like the 100)..REALLY wanted to like this next offering by Boss, was actually waiting on it for years - waiting for this box was the reason I never splurged on a Helix or the AX8. But, being honest, listening to Pete play through my KRK VXT 6’s.. If that was DI’d, that sounded not too great..Lifeless, a cheap facsimile of a Real Pete playing through a decent amp with a couple of pedals.. To me, didn't sound that good at all. ...Now you could throw a cereal box a lolly-stick,and handful of rubber bands at Pete, and Eric Johnson would be knocking him up for lessons, so we all know it wasn't Pete that sounded "not too great".. So, yes.. been a bit of Boss Cheerleader over the years, but I have heard much better in this price-bracket.. Being fair, I’m gonna give this some time and wait for some good-guys to seriously deconstruct this box before I’ll go near it. Somebody else said it, but I agree totally.. as I get older, all I need is a couple or three decent sounds from my rig and I’ll be happy.. I don't need 300 amps 200 cabs 50 mics/w/degrees of axis and 150 effects with 32-free-floating variable bitrate smart-phone adjustable blah-blah-blahs.. After listening to this video, might just be time to go back to using a few decent pedals in front of a decent amp. Been a while, but it seems like I remember having more fun playing with pedals anyway.. Each to their own n'all that, no disrespect to any other opinions out there, but based on this, and those reviews I have seen so far on the GT1000, It's just not for me.
Was that filmed after a fairly liquid lunch Captain? As for the GT1000, its not about sound any more but its all about feel, which TH-cam can't convey. But i love Boss kit so I'll check it out
LOL @ that screen. Its like Helix and Headrush never happened. No wonder it needs a Bluetooth app. Sounds OK. Needs to be priced at the Helix LT level to compete.
Is it me or did the headrush come first before the helix? It seems like they all have the same format and general look of the headrush which is kinda shocking to me...not very original
Please don't tell me that remote editing is only available via Bluetooth. Not having a PC Editor via a stable USB connection would be a deal breaker for me.
Man, the Captain is hard up on the modelers! I don’t exactly blame him. Love my amps and though I use modeling when I need to its less inspiring than being around a thumping cab. I like the filth and character the amp adds.
Be very skeptical of complicated gear that is being reviewed by people who sell the stuff. They are often introduced to the gear by reps who provide them tutorials and answer questions on the spot or through a professional connection. If you buy one of these, you have two different owner’s manuals and zero support from Boss, including absolutely zero trouble-shooting. It is a great piece of gear once you get it figured out and spend many hours creating your own patch library. But the frustration along the way will drive you crazy. It is an incredibly complex processor because it is capable of so many different things. I wasted many frustrating hours trying to operate the Boss patch library via computer connection (new dedicated desktop) and twice it was resolved by having to remove the Boss software and redownload the exact same stuff. If you enjoy playing with technology, then this will give you something new to fool around with. If you want to quickly create an effect, bank it in a pedal and then play, this may not be for you.
My question: I've always had an issue with Boss modelers where you can't turn off mic modelling without turning off cab modeling (that I know of). If you want to use a PA speaker like you would a standalone amp it's not that easy even though you could probably approximate it it's not quick and obvious how to do it. Any idea if this lets you have cab modeling but not mic?
I don’t think it does. I own a Helix and it has the same “problem”. Some folks at line 6 found out that with a properly adjusted parametric EQ block you can simulate a non-mic’ed cab on the Helix. I”m assuming you could do the same with the GT-1000
Why would you wanna do that? its not gonna sound that great without the Mic simulation. The sound that usually goes into the PA is ran through the mic and so are all guitar sounds you hear recorder on albums etc.
I'm not sure that's possible. The cab emulation will always be miced. I think that you need to turn off the IRs and go into a power amp into a cab to have the sound you're looking for. Even with a Kemper when you make the profile with the microphone, it's definitely colored by whatever mic you use
I mean..compared to other competitioners (Line6, Fractal, Positive Grid and of course Kemper) it still seems not up to date... you hear instantly that its only a Amp modeler..sounds totally fake..not really pleasing and as complex in the distortion and highend like some other modelers or "the real thing". Sounds still like a Amp modeler from back 10 years ago
Tone Hammer I suppose if you've already heard all those then a Boss pedal is never going to convince you. Personally I'm happy with some of their models.
"The proof's in the pudding". That's the second time I've heard someone say that today. Strange how language twists and turns. The original phrase was I believe "The proof of the pudding is in the eating". Presumably people will have got bored and started looking ta their phones by the time you've finished saying all those words :-)
Not much of a review, listening to the sales rep reading the brochure. A salesman told me yesterday that Boss has pushed back the release date past April 9th, so it sounds like they are having problems. I should just go ahead and get a Helix that already has rave reviews.
Doesn't match the Headrush for ease of use, visual cues of what's going on Etc. The screen is too small and looks old fashioned. I'm sure it can be made to sound good but they all can! Ease of use is the priority for me.
It sounds better here than other videos....But it's no helix tonaly......I'm actually pretty sure I could get better sounds out of my old dusty digitech rp500
I don’t think this pedal will compete in the market. It uses Boss amp models and the other competitors model amps that we have become familiar with. I feel they could have just added the 500 pedals to the GT 100 for better price point.
Hey guys, for a RRP of £ 969 GBP, you're going to have to give a much, much, much better review than what you've given here. You've just sat & discussed it for 15 minutes, the viewer has no real idea what it can do for this kind of money. Doesn't look or sound as impressive as the Zoom G3 which is mega cheap compared to this. By the way, the Andertons review of the Zoom unit, (credit where it's due) is really good!
Why is the interface so boring? Having owned the original POD, GT-10B, GT-100, POD HD500X and now the Helix, I can't understand why this still looks like a Prius :P (car joke)
I absolutely reserve all possible judgement until I hear one in the flesh. I will say the recording I hear (through £200 headphones) here on TH-cam - it's just not very good.
Darren Turner I've never played through a tube amp that I couldn't tweak with a $60 mxr distortion+ ... well, except for THE 50 watt, 5150 III. I sent that steaming pile of crap back and replaced it with a Carvin V3.
When the X3 Live and GT10 came out, on all the review videos, the X3 Live sounded better. Then you play live with a band, GT10 beats the X3 Live. Same thing with the HD500 and GT100.
This demo isn't great.. I've had this thing for a week. It makes the helix seem like a toy. Boss is a new player in the new, modern world of high-end Multi-fx units, and I think they have a couple things they need to learn in terms of UI and design. Other than the screen quality being a bit sub-par, I think that can all be fixed with updates. The sounds and the way it interacts with an amp are just top-notch. Helix needs to really step up their game.
Thought that sounded pretty good! Props to the captain for asking the difficult questions.
Now I understand why the Captain's attitude has been different during NAMM. We normally see him in "selling mode", now we're seeing him in "purchasing mode"...he's asking the harshest questions to make sure he can offer us the very best of what's available and for that I thank you Captain
You nailed it mate
Joaquin Lance spot on, mate
John Smith spot on, mate
Joaquin Lance don't be naive, he will sell anything that sells
Well, he does filter a little bit. They won't stock crap where he's convinced it won't sell because it's pointless or because it sucks.
I'm surprised Pete didn't say anything at 4:45 "you're actually hitting the back end first"
i really enjoyed the fact the cap asked the right questions here and didnt just try to say it was great
Glad to see the Captain getting down to business.
Talking price and competition.
Ádám Sárkány , I seriously doubt they can keep up with Helix LT. Especially when they have the same price tag.
Jonathan De Leon his facts are straight, the Helix LT, is $1000.
96k 32bit is actually ahead of everyone else.
I just traded a black star tube amp, which sounded great, for this. Believe me, I was worried it would sound like the gt100 (it doesn't, it sounds better, by a lot) but i was also willing to accept that it might be inferior to my headrush. 2. Worth every dollar🤟🏼 don’t knock it till you hear and try it! This thing is addicting!!
I stand unconvinced
Wow! Real pleasure to listen. Excellent sound! Good job BOSS guys!
Next year GT-10000
It's over 9,000!!! :O
from "Spishak"
And nothing will change- floor pedals all the way - Fractal maybe- but I've had all the boss floor units and they all stink -$ 1,000 for this -get separate pedals
Nice Mad Tv reference.
This pedal seems amazing. Love all my boss stuff!
To be fair to BOSS, for a d.i. signal this sounds pretty good.
All that explanation and still sounds like any Boss multi fx ever
I love Boss. I have many pedals and other gear. But this is not a "Helix beater" by any stretch. A nice board for sure, but the Helix is up there with the Fractal and Kemper. This sits somewhere in between.
Great work Lee. I had a Helix and it was / is awesome. It is light years ahead of this unit. I sold it because I realised I don't have enough time on Earth to be ARSED understanding it. I just want to play guitar and have some spare time left for living........good guitar, good tube amp, good pedals.
Martin Scholes Have you ever concider the Headrush pedalboard? It sounds just as good but way easier to use and understand, trust me.
No, but thanks for the reply. I've gone back to my Blackstar Series One with Wampler Pinnacle and a nice delay and compressor. I'm never satisfied!
Alright captain, you asked all the questions I wanted to ask ! Thanks
I own a katana and at 1/5 of the price I would choose the katana every time with the added ga-F.C controller Which i also have. The katana is amazing this really still sounds digital...I’m confused here...why is this 5x more...
Music Ghost probably way too many features than you need also
Music Ghost. Marketing, that's why.
Lee you said the GT100 was great!! Anyways I have a GT100, it suits me, but I would not buy another Boss multieffects pedal. Boss area hardware company, they do not care about their existing user base, just want to bang out the next pedal. 8:25 can I use the four cable method=> how about the seven cable? ...That's not the question.
Sounds pretty good to me, in a mix I'm sure it would be fine.
The real proof is that edge of clean with dynamics, will wait a few more years I think
You are right, the real proof are super clean jazzy tones with a bit of compression, and there is no modeler nowadays that can deliver it without sounding fake and cold.
Captains grilling boss. Love it
Kevin Rowland Yes! Thank you Captain! And, to be fair, the guy from Boss handled all of the questions gracefully and was informative. He knew his stuff!
jbwiw2 Jeff Slingluff previously was the main sound designer and product manager at Line6. He knows a lot. Now about both Line 6 and BOSS.
I really have had my heart set on a GT-100 and wonder if any of the parameters or engine is similar and also does this feature a drag and drop touch screen?
So AIRD is basically another Word for COSM.

OK, relieved: According to boss.com, "USB can also be used to edit and organize sounds with the desktop version of the BOSS Tone Studio editor"
It's 2018 and no news about Waza's HM-2?
This is easily the best sounding modeller but youd never know that from this demo.
What are the amp models??? No mention of them anywhere

Boss GT-$1000 Dollar
Does it have a looper function ?
Test starts at 6.30
Like any digital modeller I've ever used it sounds like a recorded guitar
Waiting for the GT 1 million
Now I really wanna have a personal jazz chord guy that plays jazz chord for me whenever I say jazz chord
Pungki Ahimsa Anytime my friend Mike walks in during rehearsal, I always play the "James Bond" chord. Lol
My question: I've always had an issue with Boss modelers where you can't turn off mic modelling without turning off cab modeling (that I know of).
Even with a Kemper when you make the profile with the microphone, it's definitely colored by whatever mic you use
with boss gt-10 you can do that :)
That's not turning the mic on or off. It affects the distance from the speaker.
Trying to decide which is better this or the helix?
Jared Laughland Headrush is
I sounds fine. But I don't give damn about amp modeler. I want hear how effects work in gt 1000, because it was best thing in gt 100.
We don't say 'The proof is in the pudding' either, Cap'n...It's 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating' ;)
still sounds like a cheap modeler...sorry to say
What's a cheap modeler?
I mean..compared to other competitioners (Line6, Fractal, Positive Grid and of course Kemper) it still seems not up to date... you hear instantly that its only a Amp modeler..sounds totally fake..not really pleasing and as complex in the distortion and highend like some other modelers or "the real thing". Sounds still like a Amp modeler from back 10 years ago
normally the user would use it for effects that are not distorsions....
Tone Hammer I suppose if you've already heard all those then a Boss pedal is never going to convince you. Personally I'm happy with some of their models.
Line6 is crap bro...wtf is wrong with you?!
Zoom > Boss
Helix>all
AX8
And the Zoom g3n is $125 now lol
Let me guess, that's probably becoz you bought a zoom pedal.
COSM - - >AR?
Haha get'm Cap! Love the direct questions!
sounds good in Pete's hands.
Words... words...
LINE 6 POD HD 500X
Erm... no thanks (walks off to buy Helix HX)
Helix HX is pretty damn cool. You can run split+blend signal.
They look thoroughly unimpressed... rightly so I believe
"The pots are metal shafts" - very good, the Helix has plastic shaft pots, that is just stupid for a 1k+ unit.
lee is not impressed
Doesn't match the Headrush for ease of use, visual cues of what's going on Etc. The screen is too small and looks old fashioned. I'm sure it can be made to sound good but they all can! Ease of use is the priority for me.
i will wait some dumb buy it and have backed up thought cuz it does sounds shitty as the other, exept the regular good effects .
He weren’t for letting Pete have a do were he!
How about Bluetooth?
The Digitech RP 1000 is as good as it gets; why pay more?
Well I heard nothing impressive? I still use an old GT-6 which just keeps on keeping on. Just have to wait for more in depth demo/review.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, Lee. 😊
Why is the interface so boring? Having owned the original POD, GT-10B, GT-100, POD HD500X and now the Helix, I can't understand why this still looks like a Prius :P (car joke)
It baffles me the fact that boss asking 1000$ for this crap. They really need to wake up and get their act together, this is not the 80's anymore.
The Captain is not impressed, Lol
Too bad they never take Fractal into account as they can't get to sell them.
I don't care what this dude says. There is no way this is a helix beater!
I absolutely reserve all possible judgement until I hear one in the flesh. I will say the recording I hear (through £200 headphones) here on TH-cam - it's just not very good.
There you have it boys and girls. The reason for investing in a tube amp. The alternatives sound like crap.
Bill HasWisdom so do a lot of tube amps!
exactly!!!
Not Helix or kemper though
I'll bet in the right hands it will sound awesome.
Darren Turner I've never played through a tube amp that I couldn't tweak with a $60 mxr distortion+ ... well, except for THE 50 watt, 5150 III. I sent that steaming pile of crap back and replaced it with a Carvin V3.
GT-1000 OR HEADRUSH?
Peter, chefen din verkar skeptiskt ;)
And rightly so.
Man... a new product, BUT ...same effects
BOSSta!
Thought that was Scott Grove at first.
rebelcat420. Agree but without a beard.
When the X3 Live and GT10 came out, on all the review videos, the X3 Live sounded better. Then you play live with a band, GT10 beats the X3 Live. Same thing with the HD500 and GT100.
CJ Toh totally true!!
Helix > GT1000
CJ Toh Helix=Headrush IMO but Helix and Headrush>Boss gt1000
How can you be sure of that?
It's 1000 Euro WTF!!! That is one amp worth
This just sold more ax8's.
stck to pedals boss leave the modeling to the big boys (fractal, Line 6, Bias)
This demo isn't great..
I've had this thing for a week. It makes the helix seem like a toy.
Boss is a new player in the new, modern world of high-end Multi-fx units, and I think they have a couple things they need to learn in terms of UI and design. Other than the screen quality being a bit sub-par, I think that can all be fixed with updates.
The sounds and the way it interacts with an amp are just top-notch. Helix needs to really step up their game.
Headrush and Helix sound better IMO.
