Who cares, at the end of the day PC is the superior platform.
Consoles have been edging towards obsolete for many years now. The only reason why anybody would still consider purchasing one in 2022 is because of the market aberrations on the GPU market.
Consoles are pieces of anti consumer crap filled with DRM. No need to play on them when you can just fucking dump the ISO and play it on the PC like a normal person.
      Edit: Abberations to aberrations

I have come to the sad conclusion that even though eventually...All game libraries past and present will be available for digital purchase. It will take years if not decades to sort out the copyrights. Which is a huge, painfully slow, legal nightmare.
That is why I've decided to jailbreak and mod my retro systems. Download whatever older titles I want and store'em on a harddrive.

@@tigerhead85 True but as stated and incredibly overcomplex and messy architecture, that makes this emulator harder to develop than a current console like the Nintendo Switch.
In fact I’m quite sure is harder than PS4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, that doesn’t mean we’ll have soon PS5 emulators nor will require less power although the PS3 emulator needs stronger CPUs that what you need for an eventual PS4 and Xbox One emulators, the CPUs on those consoles were like two cores of current CPUs, is funny to see that the recommended CPUs for PS3 emulation are 8 Cores Zen 2, that’s what we’ve got in PS5 and Xbox Series.
The PS4 could never under any circumstances no matter how optimized and source material would use to make it, run a playable PS3 emulator, unlike the Xbox One who was capable of running Xbox 360.

I know not everyone can upgrade their PC’s so easily due to tight budgets, but if you ever have the opportunity to acquire a decently priced 8-core processor down the road, it’ll make a big difference in the more demanding titles. God of War 3, Uncharted Drake’s Fortune, and Metal Gear Solid 4 run at playable framerates now for me even though there are still random crashes here and there, and software like them used to run in the single digit framerates before the upgrade.

After all, if they WERE to re-release MGS4, they would have to create an emulator like this one, which has taken a whole community years upon years to refine, and then make sure it works absolutely perfect, and then hope that the gaming audience would actually be willing to buy an old MGS game. As we can see here it's perfectly DOABLE... but this emulator is, again, mady by fans over nearly a decade of development time, for free, just because they can. When a project needs to make a profit, priorities look very different.

I'm amazed at how far this has come. I remember being excited when the compatibility list was under 20%, and now it's almost 2/3 of all games!
I wish Blu-Ray drive compatibility wasn't such a problem. I love being able to pop my PS2/PS1 discs into my PC's disc drive and emulate from them, but with so few BD drives able to read PS3 discs, I doubt the RPCS3 devs will care to make emulation from discs a thing. Having to dump games to be able to play them and the hassles and risks involved in that, has kept me from actually trying RPCS3 out D:

The fact that this emulator has come this far Sony no longer has any excuse as to why they haven't been able to emulate or bring forward PlayStation 3 game's if a smallish dev team can do it then PlayStation a billion dollar company absolutely has no excuse other than them being greedy and lazy.

    • @jimb12312
      @jimb12312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It took this dev team 15 years and requires hardware that did not exist until now. Years of work and millions of dollars investment if Sony tried to do it with a paid team of developers, and wouldn't be practical until PS5 hardware was available. Lazy? No. Greedy? Well if there was demand for it, and they really believed PS3 games being sold in 2022 would be profitable, they would have done it as motivated by greed.

Mircrosoft has once released how many ppl playing old games on the new consoles. It's not worth it. I didn't understand why i should play old games on a brand new console.
      1. I know them
      2. They're old
      3. only playable in edited versions.
I'm glad how it work nowadays.
Remakes and Remastered are the way it should be.
They are not all done very good but i prefer to play a GTA Definitive Edition instead the original wich make me get super eye cancer.

The FSR Upscaling in the GPU settings is a game changer, makes all these games look infra crisp far beyond what the ps3 can do, it’s like you are playing a modern ps5 remaster of these games , Outrun 2 arcade looks incredible at 4k upscaled 60fps with FSR enabled

With Rpcs3 these days, you can get away with less. You can do much better, but I have many games running smooth on an old Optiplex with an i7 4790 and a Quadro k2200 gpu. The I5's of old or under just wont cut it.

@@ripjawfang20 Yea, you're right. When I mentioned old, I meant 3rd gen I5s and below old. I've tried a i5 3570k, and it ran well under the fps to be enjoyable, even for a game like Disgaea 3 on minimum settings. I recently saw a video of an i5-4690K running rpcs3 pretty decent though. Rpcs3 has really come along way!

This is typically one of those things I will tinker with until, after lots of hours, I get it to run the way I want it to. To then never look at it again for at least a few years... I can only really game on the real hardware, I have no idea why that is. Still I am really happy that people are doing this kind of work for the rest of the world to enjoy.

This is probably the most impressive emulator I've ever seen for any console - and such a fiendishly complex one at that - period. Even though it fully emulates only about 2/3 of the PS3 library... It's easy to use and rock-solid stable, providing quite a granular control over hardware resources (often pushing beyond what the original console could do), and my experience with the few games in my personal collection which lie in the "playable" category is nothing short of stellar so far. For instance, both God of War collections (Volume I being PS2 remasters and Volume II being PSP remasters, duly noted) play beautifully at 60 fps on my 9900K + RTX 2080 Ti machine, with no glitches at all. I'll have next a try on Demon's Souls and Soulcalibur IV and V...
RPCS3 also shows the power of open-source software. Kudos to the developers!

I just started playing with this the other day. Now that there is some consumer grade POWER hardware in the wild, I wound if it would be hard to port this over to, say, POWER 8 or POWER9 hardware since they are all based around the PPC architecture and POWER can run in LE or BE mode. I wish I had money for one of the Raptor Computing systems.

@@godslayer1415 The base ISA is still the same. POWER has physical and opcode differences yes, but the technology is fundamentally the same. Eitherway, going from ppc to ppcle is much easier than going from ppc to x86_64

i remember seeing a lot of comments in sections of both rpcs3 and random benchmark videos that went something like "haha pc players waiting 12 years to finally play a ps3 game"
    1. show me a ps3 that will run any game in 4k and locked 60fps, and 2. my pc can run ps3 games, but can ps4 or ps5 do that? the answer is "only some, and only if you pay for it", oh and 3. i have possibility to play ps3 games on pc, and i still refuse to do that
