"People's dreams...have no end!!!" is among one of the legendary dialogues of one piece. The reason why Luffy didn't fight them was because they weren't even worth fighting at the time as they didn't have any dreams and how Zoro didn't fight back either simply because Luffy said so shows his loyalty and how much he respects Luffy as a captain. And the Pie man was the one who said he liked the taste of the pie and Luffy was the one who said he didn't like the taste of the pie at the bar when the were butting heads LOL. I love your reactions! Nami doesn't appear until orange town (where they meet Buggy) in original manga canon. The anime added some early scenes with her for unknown reasons (possibly just to fill time). Since Oda doesn't write for the anime, and they only ask him about stuff occasionally (like if they can use certain devil fruit powers in filler), it can deviate quite a lot at times. But I don't quite know when to put her as part of the crew either! She "officially" joins after (in?) Arlong Park arc, but Luffy obviously considers her as crew before that. Oda lists the number associated with her as 3, so I'd say it's pretty much certain that she counts as the third member gto join the crew. (Sidenote, but the subs keep translating "nakama" as "friends", which I think is a mistake. Most of the time it should be "crew". Luffy uses the much more common word "tomodachi" for the people he considers friends (like Koby!), and the literal meaning of "nakama" is "one of us".) Oh, and also, when the reader question said that Oda seemed like Usopp, in Japanese it says "Usopp-ppoi", where the -ppoi" ending means "-like". So "Usopp-like". But "uso" means "lie", so if you say it out loud it sounds like the reader is saying "you seem like a liar"! Usopp's name is already a pun, so the reader took the chance, lol. I love that Oda goes along with these little jokes.

Love the reaction! This episode is full of mystery to this day... Some of them for me are the emphasize on Luffy's "Luck", when the apple does not explode. The author stating his luck implies there might be more to it and makes me question the nature of Luffy himself or moments like the end of Alabasta when Ange was having questions about Luffy... But it also "legitimate" all the "lucky" things that might happen to him while keeping in mind that there might be more to it... Brilliant writing for a long Shonen
Luffy might be an idiot but his emotional intelligence is really on point , he knew really damn well that Bellamy wasnt worth his time , he didnt need to show his strength with him , just like Shanks taught him , that it’s important to know when the right time to fight is. And then when that guy told him that the dreams of pirates never end Luffy agreed with that but he also realised that something was sus with him , that’s why kept looking at him , not because he was just right but because he realised that there something more about him. Luffy is one of the best protagonist of all time , anybody who say’s that he’s just a goofy idiot is wrong , he is a goofy idiot but he also become’s serious when he need’s to be , and he can also read the situation around him , he can be pretty observent sometime’s , and he can understand people’s emotion’s , emotional intelligence at it’s finest.

Fun fact about this scene. Luffy didn't fight back against Bellamy as soon as he started talking about he's a pirate who doesn't believe in dreams. To Luffy not following your dreams is already setting yourself up for defeat. ANOTHER interesting fact is Bellamy's bounty was 55 million berry while Luffy's devil fruit is the Gomu-Gomu no mi. Go is 5 and Mu is 6 so through out the story you will see Luffy attached to the number 56. So while Luffy is associated wth 56 and Bellamy associated with the number 55 that is Oda clearly showing that Luffy was already above Bellamy.

People like to draw a connection between Luffy's bar fight scene and Shanks bar scene and say that Luffy was inspired by Shanks and that's why he didn't fight. But I disagree. Oda may have also seen this as a sort of callback to Shanks, but the motivations of Shanks and Luffy and the overall situation seem entirely different. I think Luffy pitied Bellamy and Co. 9:28 until that moment even the one piece was a myth.
I think the community is still hung up on how Luffy and Zoro call Pie guy, "Them or They". We of episode 1k+ still don't understand the reference.
It was actually Luffy saying how bad the pie was. If Luffy is out here saying a food is bad you just KNOW cherry pie guy was trippin
I think that the big guy prefers donuts over pies
Cherry pie guy looks like a good character
Oda has said Zoro is so loyal to Luffy that if Luffy orders him to kill the rest of the crew he would do it
Cherry pie guy is epic, what a speech. I'm surprised you guys didn't recognise Thorkell's voice actor
there are 2 people in the comments making spoilers could you report for spam? i blocked idk what his name was
Can't wait until they realize who the cherry pie guy is
This is unrelated. But Carlie looks extra cute and pretty here! 💕
Give me an S
Give me an I
Give me an M
Give me a P
Pie guy liked cherry pie the whole time, Luffy was the one who hated it.
❤❤❤
