That was Sodium Hydroxide drain opener, it reacts with water and gets hot. Sodium hydroxide reacts with aluminum as well, which is why its a dark grey color in the video.
Lye doesn't react with water. (pure sodium does, but sodium hydroxide is technically already reacted with water). Anyway, it reacts with just about everything else tho, so mixing it with whatever is likely to cause an issue like in the video.
@@TysonJensenIt “reacts” with water by dissolving in it. The dissolved sodium hydroxide has a much lower enthalpy than the dry stuff, so the reaction releases heat. @@Yindog1 Yeah I was gonna say, technically not a reaction in the chemical sense but just as problematic. The robots 6:13 actually had a conversation. In the original video for them you can hear the small one say: "Let's go home" The bigger robot goes "I don't have a home." The small one reply's: "Then come to mine." The bigger ones agree and they all actually left the building heading for an unknowns location. The staff had to come in after hours to chase them down and bring them back. Let that sink in a bit.
This was part of a test. Those robots belong to two different companies. The smaller robot was able to change the bigger robots programming and create a “follow me” program. The bigger robot company was surprised it was that easy to “hack” the programming. This has all sorts of implications for the future of robotics. Let’s just hope they get better at blocking this ability between robot communications.
Another comment said the small one was sent in to try to get the robots to leave, and it worked.. but they were stopped at the gates since they did not have access to them so not really "unknown location"
Not really, what we're hearing is a separation of frequencies, and that happens because different frequencies travel at different speeds through the ice. The reason you can see it in the video is the security cameras also use IR, since it can see at night/in the dark.
The first thing to do if chemicals are having a reaction: leave the room, open any nearby window you can if it's quick and easy, but most importantly; get out of your home. If you can, take the containers you dumped with you so that you can tell poison control what you combined, but if you don't know where they are, don't look for them, getting out is more important; some chemical combinations can be deadly if inhaled and others can leave you permanently disabled. It's not worth the risk of staying in your home until you've talked to poison control- call them immediately! Also, NEVER mix bleach with anything, unless you already know what it's going to produce! That's one of the big ones. (ex. bleach and rubbing alcohol makes chloroform) And please- don't stop to record, it's not worth it!

Just think of it this way; Don't mess with it if the guy wire is fenced off, but if it isn't fenced off try hitting it with a wrench.
edit: I have seen video of cars literally driving up various guy wires during accidents and these were always for the kind of fairly short structures you get next to roads. They are a lot stronger than you think they are.
I discovered this effect with deck of cards sized limestone quarry waste and a freshly frozen Lake Lemon. The flat pieces of stone slide like pucks. Gooooaaalll! That sound really is a phasor or phaser which is one sound source the sliding, with it's two sounds changing with respect to each other. I did building maintenance for half a decade and if we got calls for clogged sinks or toilets and the tenant poured draino or other chemicals down the drain we wouldn't touch them they would have to call a plumber on their dime. If your sink or toiled clogs just go buy a drill mounted snake, they are like $30 at any hardware store and will clear a blockage far better than chemicals will.
That was Sodium Hydroxide drain opener, it reacts with water and gets hot. Sodium hydroxide reacts with aluminum as well, which is why its a dark grey color in the video.
Thanks for the explanation.
Interesting. The more you know……………
Lye doesn't react with water.
Mixing it with water too quickly will make it boil, which is why you should do it in an ice bath and add only a little at a time to the water
@@Yindog1 Yeah I was gonna say, technically not a reaction in the chemical sense but just as problematic. Outside a lab environment (and here especially) it would also be possible to smother the reaction in enough sheer volume of water to keep it at a manageable temp, though of course if the drain is blocked you’re definitely getting water everywhere if you try and do that.

6:04 In the original video, the little robot actually asked the others “Are you working overtime?”!

I could see pixar being inspired off that alone for a film.
Another comment said the small one was sent in to try to get the robots to leave, and it worked.. but they were stopped at the gates since they did not have access to them so not really "unknown location"

(ex. bleach and rubbing alcohol makes chloroform)
