    I always will love the Spinners, Parliament & Funkadelic. Spinners, Philippe', George C., Boosie all of you gave good music. We need good music of the 60's & 70's & early 80's back in our lives. The music told stories that we lived. Though it's Hip Hip in the mix now, but doesn't tell the good clean stories of love & life like the 60's & 70's.

    Phillipe Wynne was amazing! I wish 2 things I wish he listened to Thom Bell and waited a little longer to go solo, and I wish he didn't pass away from that heart attack back in 84.

    Incredible ad-lib abilities. He surely regretted leaving The Spinners, in hindsight. They were the R&B group of the 70's, 2nd only to the J5 I believe...in top 10 songs, but theirs was "grown- folk" music, and I loved it, especially the melodic songs written/produced by Thom Bell & Linda Creed. And he was only 43 when he died....while performing. Thanks to TH-cam, we get to experience who he really was....all these years later.

    • @DorianGilmer

      Very capable singer and entertainer that got too big for his britches, and once they picked up smooth, 4-octane Johnny Edwards, his era and style had played out, so there was definitely no going back no way, no how!

    • @blaquenguni9249
      @blaquenguni9249 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@DorianGilmer this is such a bullshit take.
      Teddy Pendergrass left the Bluenotes and became a bigger draw and legend solo. Felipe Wynn took a chance at life, the man laid down "Knee Deep" for fukk sakes.
      Just coz a great man fails at an endeavour doesn't make him any less great.
      What do you know what it's like to be a genius singer?.. Let alone judge him for wanting to go solo. Felipe Wynn was a superstar, he just need a big push from a major label.
      It didn't help that the late 70s, early 80s funk had been phased out.
      Also in this documentaty Felipe is not here to speak on himself.
      I've never listened to anything the "Spinners" did after Felipe Wynn left.
      But here they are running their mouths on a dead man

    • @sabot4ge
      @sabot4ge 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blaquenguni9249 what would you say replaced the funk by time 1984 came in? Gap band, sos band type music? then an evolution into the new jack swing? You sound very educated about what you're talking about and i'd be curious to know your take on how music evolved from the early 70s to 1984. Temptations-type groups with great arrangements and soulful slow music was the early 70s, then as the mid 70s came i'd say uptempo came into play which helped funk push its way into the disco era..early 80s to me is hard to define. Lots of synths, MTV became popular, and it was the age of the popstar like madonna i would assume.

    Mr. Wynne was "That Dude" when he sang with the Spinners. He had the uncanny storytelling ability whereas; when he sang the song it would take the listener on an adventurous vocal ride. When he re-joined his P-Funk brethren, it was a win win for all the P-Funkateers (Not Just Knee Deep); and the rest is musical history. R.I.P. to a true legend of the vocals.
