No matter who you do a story on even if I didn't know the Celebrity you still keep me interested at the glimpse of the notification by the way you tell their story with the music
Love your story on Phillipe Wynne story and all the rest of your stories. The story was just a rumor about only 8 people showing up for his funeral. I went online and found pics of his funeral and it was packed., even the members of the group paid their respects.
I've been to Detroit Memorial Park East a few times looking for various graves, including Flo Ballard & Phillipe. Even this many years later there is no gravestone on Phillipe's grave.
He was the greatest! I remember being a kid and seeing them perform mighty love and the spinners left the stage, and phillipe Wynn stayed on stage! Part of their act. His voice was next level, and his performances were out of this world! I was very saddened when he passed away, it was like losing a great uncle or big brother! This man extraordinary!

I am a true fan of the spinners. I’ve been rocking with them since the 70s and every time I hear I’ll be around, mighty love, Sadie, (just makes me cry) & How could I let you get away, it just sends me back to good memories of growing up in Ohio and going to college. Classic classic group with great harmonies, dance moves and orchestration! Love. Me. Some. Spinners!! Come on Rock HOF, OPEN UP!!🤨
I looooooov the Spinners. My dad played their music all the time and I loved listening to them. I can remember when I was in the Air Force and we would have parties. It wasn't complete unless some Spinners music was played.
Wow, I was born in Detroit and been about Motown and music all my life, but your documentaries still blow me away every time. Great work, you're much appreciated! I looked up Emmanuel Wynne and ran into a "Emmanuel Wynne Memorial 2000" tribute...I had no idea man, just amazing. Thanks again folk, now I need to get my head straight on Ms. Linda Creed tho!
Linda Creed was a songwriter and part of the background singers called 'The Sigma Sweethearts'. She and Phyllis Hyman were lovers at one time. Unfortunately she passed away from breast 🎀 cancer.
I can't believe the Spinners isn't in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Maybe they wasn't Pop are commercialized enough. With all there hits, they will eventually get in the Hall Of Fame.🤩
What I am trying to say Eric is that the rock and roll hall of fame has no knowledge , they're dysfunctional and they even put artists that don't belong in ... and to snub the Spinners three times(2011 ,14 & 15) is a total disgrace to music ... there should be one that is more into music and call it The Music Hall of Fame
You know something ,IMO,the hall of fame sucks so much. It's a lot of politics.another great act of the 70's we're the stylistics I don't think ever got the love they deserve. So much great music in all genres in that time.so don't be so upset over the hall of fame,it's not all its cracked up to be.
Yesss I love this song to especially when Felipe Wynn’s start ad libing at the end….But my favorite song by them is Love don’t love nobody ohhhhh 😍😍😍😍😍😍it the studio but the live version is fire

@@zacharyboyd5391: I remain CONVINCED that the theme for 'Cougar Town' (Courtney Cox's best-known post-'Friends' show, on ABC) was DIRECTLY influenced by "We'll Have It Made" - a TERRIBLY-underrated hit of theirs.....
Thank you, Thank you for doing this story. Talking about a R & B group that's never getting their musical props, The Spinners especially Phillipe Wynn. If anyone in the comments haven't heard of them yet please check them out. You won't be disappointed. Many people also didn't know that Phillipe Wynn was singing in the song by Funkadelic/Parliament .( George Clinton)"I got ants in my pants and I need to dance " in the song Knee Deep. He was freestyling when that song was being recorded.
Daryl Hall (one of the greatest underrated singers imo, not just in the blue eyed soul genre but period) of Hall & Oates has said he was doing his best impression of Phillipe on the song Sara Smile and that much of his singing style was inspired of him and other singers, especially those from the Philly soul genre. In 2004 the group actually ended up covering I'll Be Around to pay tribute and got a AC hit out of it, def recommend looking up live performances of that cover bc they did the song justice
They DO DESERVE to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of my FAVORITE Groups. I have had the pleasure of seeing them in CONCERT and they SOLD OUT and ROCKED the house ❤
Now Mr.Underrated! Bruh... You must know ALLLLL the R&B cats I mess wit. This is my mannnnnn. I love The Spinners but only wit Felipe. Voice is unmatched when he got in his bag. Take u straight to church!!
Phillippe was an amazing vocalist. His very distinctive style MADE The Spinners when he joined the already established quintet. His riffs were unmistakeable. I saw him with the group in England just after they’d had that fantastic run of hits after moving from Motown (where the Spinners were so sadly neglected in favour of the Temptations) to Atlantic. Ironically, the Temptations made a BIG song and dance about leaving Motown and moving to Atlantic - but didn’t have a single hit record during their brief stay there. RIP Phillippe. What a singer! Irreplaceable. ❤
I had to broadcast this on my tv. Yessir cuz Phillippe was a bad man and he let people get in his ear to leave The Spinners which he should have never done. I remember Thom Bell saying he could jump in front of a beat and vocally imagine what was coming and just demolish it. Damn he was bad!!!!! Thank you
Loved Phillipè and The Spinners back in the day. Together they had quite a bit of success with their musical careers. Thank you for sharing the story of some of the ups and downs of this amazing group 💕.
8-9-24 This was a tremendous marvelous excerpt of Phillipe Wynne’s life. Thank you. You could have said much more about the person who got in Phillips’s ear when he ended up leaving The Spinners. But AINT it funny that some years later that person ended up dying from a massive heart attack also. God don’t like ugly.
One part of the story that should be mentioned is the fact that Phillipe Wynne did a reunion tour with the Spinners within a year of his death. I will always feel blessed to have seen their concert performance in Philadelphia. That was the first time that I saw them live even though I grew up on their music. Man, that was a show. It should also be pointed out how Phillipe was a master of ad libbing. His ad libs brought a number of Spinner classics to a higher level.
Trust me it was sad and you know none of them showed up for Billy when he was at this last moment. So I guess the group is like that when it comes to a few of thier former band mates. RIP billy and Phillipe.
Here's an idea: Why not establish a Black R&B Hall of Fame instead of ALWAYS depending on yt folks to acknowledge our musical greatness? There are numerous wealthy black musical artists that could easily make it happen.
The Spinners were a great group. I still have all of their LP's. Since I've been gone, who you been loving, is my favorite song by them, with Sadie, coming in next.
Thank you for this awesome spread on Mr. Wynne I love him and his voice.i remember they were on Mike Douglas show and they were doing rhe Rubber band man and they had to usher him off stsge he got so into the song and was like zoned out...but noone remebers that. I saw the new Spinners last night in Parker AZ Bluewater Casino and they did a great job not to be originals...I am glad they are keeping their legacy alive The Spinners are Unsung
Just like David Ruffin was the voice of The Temptations, Philippe Wynne was the voice of The Spinners. Bobbie Smith and Philippe Wynne sounds just alike. "Mighty Love" is my favorite song Philippe gets down on that song. It's another song I love called "I Could Never Repay Your Love" he sings his heart out on that song.
David Ruffin sang lead on their biggest hits. But Eddie Kendricks was the voice of the Temptations as well, and he arguably sung lead in just as many or more songs than David Ruffin.
@@JDavis-vq1rx true true. But when David Ruffin took over as lead, Eddie Kendricks didn't get much lead except on three top ten hits but sang on six number one hits.
@@dwaynethomas4655 yes Philippe Wynne was another level, they don't sound identical but almost. Just listen to a Spinners songs like "Mighty Love" my favorite.
Marvin Whittaker that song is a classic example of how different the were Phillipe took.that song and carry like it was his own that's one of my favorite. But to be honest Billy was my favorite spinner of all yea he never sang lead on any of thier songs or albums but Billy was the spinners without Billy the spinners wouldn't have been a group.
Thank you for this! I’m a HUGE Philll.. I was recently in Cincinnati where they honored him on their Walk of Fame. His sister accepted his award on his behalf. Bootsey was there Midnight Star, Shirley Murdoch and others. When they should clips of him, the whole place started singing Lov Don’t Love Nobody! I was literally crying. His sister said Sadie was their life. Recording the song Phillepe had to do it several times because it was too emotional! Thank you for this documentation!

I remember I was in Panama when they announced on GI radio Phillipe Wynne' has died on stage massive heart attack back in 87, I was straight stunned my heart dropped down to.my toes, as I let the tears go remembering they music as a 6 yr old. RIP Phillipe """
I went back and forth with GC about the 8 at his funeral story about 16 years ago on the internet about this. I couldn't believe it. Yes he may have been a bit arrogant but he was also a great singer with a larger than life personality. There was a small wake that his family hosted where that number was low. However, he had another big funeral somewhere else where many attended including the Spinners.
I offered to join The Spinners when Phillippe quit, but was told that they did not need a replacement. I am also the only person that was at the funeral home in L.A. other than his family. The only other names on the guest list were family members. I thought that was impossible but i later learned that the real funeral was held the next Tuesday in Detroit. Listen to what i sing on the end of this song and let me know what you think. Stylistics & Lonnie Cook - Payback Is A Dog.mp4
Bro, you sounded like you were gonna cry when you mentioned Emmanuel drowning. His life was brief but I think he was one of the best singers I had ever heard. Hello.....I'd like to make one correction regarding that night at Ivey's......my band was his back up band that night, as we had been on the road with him since January or February 1984. The correction is, we had just finished "Love Don't Love Nobody", with the encore (upbeat ) song being "Wait "Til Tomorrow". We went through the whole intro of the song, but he didn't come in singing where he should have, however, as you mentioned, he'd be in the crowd shaking hands, etc. while we were playing, and had told me if that happened, to have the band keep playing ( I was the music director ), and he would come in singing the second time around. When he didn't come in the second time around, I knew something was wrong, as he NEVER missed an absolute cue.....I went to the edge of the stage, and saw him on the floor having the seizure / heart attack. Although, he's listed as passing on July 14, 1984, he did ( as you said ) in fact pass on July 13th.......He was already dead before they could get him to the hospital......I was so sorry to hear what happened to his sons, as he was so proud of them......I want to thank you for recognizing Phillipe' in this You Tube forum, I appreciate you!

Thank you for doing this, This brother is one of most underrated singers in history. He could certainly sing with the best of them and it's certainly no accident that the Spinners found their greatest success while he was in the group.
Yes, he could sing with the best of them.
If you didn't smile while hearing him sang 'A Mighty Love' your soul is gone.
Period...One Love Fam...
You ain't lying!!! and they have other great hits as well!!! Phillipe Wynne is a beast!!! I love the Spinners!!!
He was an amazing vocalist! He died way too young! Definitely one of the best soul singers of his generation! 🖤🖤🖤
True
That's beautiful I'm glad to hear that.
Love Don’t Love Nobody what a song!!!
Yes sir. My favorite from the spinners.
He also sang on the Parliament with George Clinton “Knee Deep” …. Classic
Oh yes, make no mistake....
all time funk classic!
Really... na. I seen that lead singer I actually have the DVD where he does this
@@coxwagan Are U saying he didn't sing on that record? KNEE DEEP? Yes he did and he is on the credits but if that's not what U are saying, disregard this message....lol
@@coxwagan Phillipe Wynne comes in midway through the song. The song is 15 minute long.Hes not in the beginning. Hes the one who says "Make no mistake, this funky music has what it takes. To groove you sometimes, knock you down......etc.
RIP Mr Wynne 🙏 You left us with classic songs.
Thank you for doing this documentary. I love Phillipe Wynne! And I love The Spinners. Are nd...I love your channel. To hear that he died at 43! is truly tragic. The Spinners are a huge part of my childhood nostalgia and I STILL have many of their songs on my playlist. God bless you!
Oh....Yes......Philippe. This man is a force to be reckoned with. His Runs of Range were incredible. Thank you so much for uploading this.
That's his son who lost his life.
Linda Creed was a songwriter and part of the background singers called 'The Sigma Sweethearts'. She and Phyllis Hyman were lovers at one time. Unfortunately she passed away from breast 🎀 cancer.
They had a lot of # 1 songs. Went to see them many, many years ago opening for Stevie Wonder. Phillipe was great.
@@richardjackson1858 you're absolutely right Richard 👍
Jay Z's in and spinners are not in the Hall wow.
@@jazzman688 you see what I mean bro , this rock and roll hall of fame is garbage 🗑
Yesss I love this channel & I love the Spinners “Could It Be I’m Fallin In Love” is my favorite song by them ❤️
Yesss I love this song to especially when Felipe Wynn’s start ad libing at the end….But my favorite song by them is Love don’t love nobody ohhhhh 😍😍😍😍😍😍it the studio but the live version is fire
They didn't sell out Detroit machine motown tha dramatics enchantment we can go on Detroit greatest groups next to the machine set up by motown the temptation !
@@ladygemini5967 that's my favorite part of the song also.
Thank you, I didn't know who they were until you said that song! It's those nuances. I hate that I don't know most of these people. Thankful someone is here to tell us and for people like you, who can give it the attention it deserves in greater context.
WOW ! Yes , 🎶 could it be I'm falling in love ... with you baby .. could it be I'm falling in LLLove ... with you .. with you ... with yooouuuu .... 🎶 , magnificent melody 💙 ✨✨
Mann, "NOT JUST KNEE DEEP" is my favorite cut that Mr. Wynne was ever involved with. He just cut up on that track!
Mine too!!!!
Man you don’t know how excited I get when I receive a notification that you’ve uploaded a new video! Keep up the great work .🤞🏽❤️
I agree 💯
Show u right✊👊
CG Cameron is the brother that sang “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” from the movie Cooley High
Oh man really never noticed that
And it's a shame and we'll have it made
Woooooooow I literally just listened to Grandmaster Dee play that song on one of his dj sets he did years ago I never knew who it was that singing it 😳.
@@KariTheBarb me either I heard Grandmaster Dee play it on one of his dj sets.
I love hall and oates and I absolutely can hear the influence on Sara smile....
Daryl definitely sounds a LOT like Philippe.
Agreed
Tina Marie was underrated n was blue eyed soul!
Looove Daryl Hall, never knew Philippe was one of his influences, makes sense though. Great stuff, really talented men.
The Spinners need be in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame
They DO DESERVE to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. One of my FAVORITE Groups. I have had the pleasure of seeing them in CONCERT and they SOLD OUT and ROCKED the house ❤
Now Mr.Underrated! Bruh... You must know ALLLLL the R&B cats I mess wit. This is my mannnnnn. I love The Spinners but only wit Felipe. Voice is unmatched when he got in his bag. Take u straight to church!!
The Spinners is my very favorite group ever I listen to them all the time even my grandkids know their songs
There you go Bigbaby , passing good taste on to the family 🌟🌟🤩
Phillippe was an amazing vocalist. His very distinctive style MADE The Spinners when he joined the already established quintet. His riffs were unmistakeable. I saw him with the group in England just after they’d had that fantastic run of hits after moving from Motown (where the Spinners were so sadly neglected in favour of the Temptations) to Atlantic. Ironically, the Temptations made a BIG song and dance about leaving Motown and moving to Atlantic - but didn’t have a single hit record during their brief stay there.
RIP Phillippe. What a singer! Irreplaceable. ❤
i loved his energy on stage ! R.I.P Philippe Wynne
Great job on the feature! Phillipe is definitely one of my favorite lead singers as are the group the spinners
Thank you
So Phillippe Wynne Is Your Cousin On His Mother Or Father Side?

Loved Phillipè and The Spinners back in the day. Together they had quite a bit of success with their musical careers. Thank you for sharing the story of some of the ups and downs of this amazing group 💕.
Berry must have been kicking himself when the Spinners started getting hits
8-9-24 This was a tremendous marvelous excerpt of Phillipe Wynne’s life. Thank you. You could have said much more about the person who got in Phillips’s ear when he ended up leaving The Spinners. But AINT it funny that some years later that person ended up dying from a massive heart attack also. God don’t like ugly.
The spinnes is literally one of my favorite groups back in that time . You should do the lead singer of heatwave to .
A voice that can never be replaced.
Thank you my Brotha for the info
May Phillipe be in the arms of the CREATOR.
Their 1st single on Atlantic was "How Could I Let You Get Away", and the b side was "I'll Be Around".
The irony!
My favorite song is " I'll Be Around ". ❤
Great choice for Celebrity Underrated. It's sad only a handful of people showed up at his funeral
Wow King Lord did know that. Thanks for the info. Sad !
I use to think like that...big "dreams".
Great idea
Excellent idea Phyllis. We do need a Black R&B Hall of Fame . I agree with you 100% .
Yessss that’s a great idea!
Yeah, but when we do, it doesn't have the clout..
Need to change the influence and break the other down...
The Spinners were a great group. I still have all of their LP's. Since I've been gone, who you been loving, is my favorite song by them, with Sadie, coming in next.
Yep. I remember since I’ve been gone also. Not released as a single that I know, but a classic none the less…😎🎯
Love that song
Why do people keep saying Phillipe and bobby sounds the same, they don't Phillipe was another level.
Bootsey
was there Midnight Star, Shirley Murdoch and others. When they should clips of him, the whole place started singing Lov Don’t Love Nobody! I was literally crying. His sister said Sadie was their life. Recording the song Phillepe had to do it several times because it was too emotional! Thank you for this documentation!
Now he is a underrated legend for real man and that's a shame..
Thank you for honoring this man, my favorite singer. (FYI: The Pacesetters was Bootsy's band)
The Spinners are officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as of September 2023. Congratulations.
One of the greatest singer of all times.
I’m 29 and everytime I hear “could it be I’m fallin in love” it touches my soul. Definitely in my house cleaning playlist. Sadie is a song that makes my Father cry every time he lost his mom 2 months before I was born
However, he had another big funeral somewhere else where many attended including the Spinners.
true
Sadie is my song, and his ad libbing in that song was like nothing I had ever heard. A lot of folks talk about David Ruffin being great, but phillipe wynne was great as well. Thank you for this video
I saw them live when I was about 10 years old at the Rockville MD Shady Grove Theater! This man’s performance still stands out in my mind! Great Great talent! Truly underrated!
Great channel here, I never miss an episode! The Spinners truly one of the greatest Soul groups ever and they need to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! All have tremendous vocals.

One of a kind is my favorite Spinners track..Phillipe and Bobby killed it on the vocals
I love it also
Hello.....I'd like to make one correction regarding that night at Ivey's......my band was his back up band that night, as we had been on the road with him since January or February 1984.
Philippe Wynne and Bobbie Smith sound just alike!! Wow!! Truly great singers!! RIP Philippe and Bobbie
