    Spinners - Stylistics - Four Tops- Temptations - all the real deal, they don't do it like this anymore. We still have these memories though.

    Perhaps one of themost underrated groups to come outof Motown. They weren't given the recognition they were due.

    • @russblack443
      @russblack443 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I totally agree, they got lost in the shuffle at Motown. Berry Gordy was famous for making new acts sit the bench for a while after they got signed. Motown was just overloaded with talent. The Spinners never really ever had any success until their Motown contract was up and the went to Philly and hooked up with Gamble and Huff. That's when they had their hits

    • @doug6203
      @doug6203 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@russblack443 As brilliant as 'It's a Shame' was (and still is), they were benched at Motown. Atlantic and Thom Bell accepted them with open arms and made fantastic records for us all to enjoy, to this day.

    • @russblack443
      @russblack443 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@doug6203 ah sorry I misspoke I was thinking they'd worked with Gamble and Huff,but you're right it was Thom Bell. Motown did that to a lot of artists. I think Berry Gordy signed people without any intentions of doing anything with them to keep them out of the hands of other labels. The Commodores sat for a few years before they got a chance,the were just lucky because a bunch of people had left in the early to mid seventies and they were needed. Lionel Richie owes his solo career in part to Rick James drug use and pissing the label off. He fell out of favor and they strapped a rocket to Lionel's butt. Not saying he didn't deserve it he is a talented musician and great song writer. Lionel Richie saved Kenny Rodgers career writing and producing for him

      I loved watching on PBS back in the day in the south when Blacks weren’t even allowed to drink from the same water fountains and the concert had a rope in the middle of the floor to segregate the kids, But the kids were all just having fun dancing 💃🏼 🕺, the rope fell, and kids just all naturally merged all over the dance floor and the cop 👮‍♂️ raised his billy club to hit them back into segregation but dancers were moving so fast all over and he was afraid to he might strike a white kid and he just kinda gave up. Great music worked magic for the civil rights movement!🥰

      Motown’s release of “It’s a Shame”was all they really did with the Spinners. Stevie Wonder, one of the writers had to kick & scream for them to do that. Motown dropped the ball & Atlantic picked it up. Thom Bell, their awesome producer put the Spinners on their roll of hit after hit.

      Brother, it was so special. Imagine, your in HS, it's after the homecoming Game, & after, The School Social. Just to be admitted, all guys had to wear a Tie/Dress Shirt/Pants/Shoes, & a Sports Coat. The Ladies had to dress up as well. We danced to this type of music. @ my HS there was no hate, shootings, or fights. The student body was of all races, & we all just got alone. In HS they all called me "8" Y? 8 seconds B4 Half time, or @ the end of the game, coach would call "Time Out" with only 8 seconds remaining. The Student Body would all count down from 10, & stop @ 8. Then I'd come into the game... I grew up in the Projects in Tucson, AZ. I graduated from HS @ age 14. What every one seemed to forget is that I was NOT cut from the Team, & we WON Back-2-Back State Basketball Championships. 4 went on to play NCAA College Basketball, & 1 signed an NBA Contract, & I was on the Team! Loved all my Teammates. I was too happy to feel offended, or perhaps stupid. Regardless, I was on the Team, & got my Ass kicked everyday @ practice. Plz do Google me Mr. Smith: Santiago Murillo-Tucson. It's all true.
