    This man is a True Warrior, a master in his field, a living legend, I have trained with many masters mainly in the oriental arts,I recognise so many of the points he is making. This art is wonderful to behold because of its simplicity, yet deadly and effective means. It would be an honour to learn from this Sage, because that is what he is.

    Nasty, devastating, brutal and efficient. The reality of it must be respected. This is why combat should be avoided. Excellent presentation.

    When you started using the longaxe you got the sub. Watching this and the Hurstwic guys recreating fighting moves from the viking sagas was like watching the same video. Regardless of culture, what works, works. Real fighting for a real warrior culture. I also think this is just more proof that beards and axes go hand in hand.

    "And this very art is honestly real and true and it is about moving straight and simple, to the nearest target, taking the most direct way. For example, if someone intends to strike or thrust, it goes just like if a string would be attached to the sword and the tip or edge would be pulled to an opening of the adversary - who should be the target for the strike or thrust - resulting in taking the shortest way to the nearest target as possibly. That is why the same true fencing will never employ beautiful and wide parries nor large round moves which are just useful to entertain spectators." From european longsword treatise "Codex Döbringer" (MS 3227a) circa 1380.

      No Sikh calls themselves a Hindu Sikh in a religious sense. If you look at his other lecture, he said "I am Hindu in a particular cultural sense" which means that he is aware of Hindu culture and how, in martial terms, Sikhs learned the original vidya from Hindu warriors.

    Thank you for this excellent demonstration. My first time seeing this art. You spoke many truths. I have always felt a staff can be practical in today's world. I can walk around, an old guy with a stick to help him walk, smile and not intimidate people. If people with nasty intentions give pause because they wonder maybe...then mission accomplished. As you said a staff can kill but it can be used to discourage too. NOT a concealed weapon so no problem with the law. Just an' old stick, mate! :)

  • @Griffinax

    It is refreshing to see someone still practicing the techniques a weapon was originally designed to perform. Not a dance but movements designed to remove an enemy from before themselves.

      Thanks for the info, i've always liked the swords with that kind of curvature, like a falcata or kopis...

    • @sushanalone
      @sushanalone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diego De León Swords with curvature along entire length are usually cutting swords, they by their shape impart a straight strike a slicing motion. Also such specialised blades have a unique advantage of being able to use 2 slice motions in one thrust, one in push and the other while pulling back (so while he defends 2 atttacks you can close ino r bash him with your buckler while covering yourself etc). For example you target the neck and thrust forward, if he dodges you quickly realign the blade while pulling it back for another attack in one motion at the same time pushing in and bashing the buckler in the chest or face.
      But these weapons need to be used with a buckler, as while doing so your remaining body is exposed.
      Falcata and Kopis are curved for a different reason, they are more like axe-swords, that are heavy at the far end to impart maximum chopping at the cost of agility and number of attacks that can be made.
      So the curved blades are not just for show but have essential techniques involved to use the curvature.
      :P

    Are these the arts of the Janissarys?

    • @faizulhaque9938
      @faizulhaque9938 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, at leat not directly. The Gharana (School) of Indian martial art shown here is of Shikh origin; which means the early proponents are mostly from Punjab or surrounding regions. Those regions had been a place where warriors/merceneries/trades men from Iran, Turkey, Central Asia along with local sources frequented, there has also been a considerable amount of European skill absorbed in the colonial ages. So, some cross-over between the Janissary style and Shastar Bidya is possible.

    I've seen a fair few of this guys vids and whilst it's good that he wants to try to keep dying traditions alive (although it would be better to have an Indian doing it rather than a boy from Wolverhampton), I just can't say that I'm convinced of his ability.
    I see him talk the talk but I don't see him walk the walk.

    • @diphyllum8180
      @diphyllum8180 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +baldieman64 Possibly you don't see him walk the walk because you're blind. More likely, you just have no weapons or martial arts experience. As a practitioner of Chinese traditional martial arts I can see what he's doing in this video and respect it -- he has both subtlety and precision, fluidity and power. It's obvious to me that he's an effective martial artist. Why you're not convinced I do not understand. Would you be more impressed by showy dance moves like the Gatka he criticises? What he's doing here is a very efficient and effective way of using a spear, and you don't get footwork like his without having done a bit of walking.

      Look, How do you expect to see any kind of real spar with these types of weapons? This is a fighting style designed for killing blows and crippling opponents. If you developed a virtual reality simulation where you can fight imaginary opponents who can respawn when killed, You can't really see any kind of "real" demonstration of this art.

      +jasjeet singh Gatka isn't the same as this. Gatka is a sport. Shastar Vidiya (Weapon Science) is an art designed to kill.

      +Bappa Rawal you can call this art gatka as well.Only difference is that this is chatka gatka,whereas the other gatka is jahir gatka,the exhibitionist stuff.Gatka literally means "pertaining to motion".

      Kieran Moore Do not think of it as literal penetration unless he is wielding a spear. What he is referring to is follow through much like striking through your opponent to cause more damage. In other words your strike does not end at your opponent's head but behind your opponent's head.
