This reminds me of my dad. He died in 2008. He was a singer. He sounded like Bing Crosby when he sang White Christmss, or Eddy Arnolds, Make the World go Away. He would call me up and say, have ypu heard this song? and start singing in English and Spanish. The mayor of Austin at the time called Rudy Vasquez , the singing troubador, I have a copy from the newspaper. Dad was a WWll veteran in the Air Force for 4 years. Miss you Dad! I think Troubadour is one of the best songs by George Strait.
Use to follow him when he was a nobody going to his dances on the weekend in and around the San Antonio area. So good to see a Poteet guy make it big

I’ve been blessed to see George Strait in concert 6 or 7 times, all in big stadiums. I couldn’t imagine seeing him perform at an intimate venue like Gruene Hall.

I live close by as well, and I'm not sure how they managed to get the King of Country to play at the oldest dance hall in Texas (also, one of the smallest, and I think Gruene Hall is the little old bar in Pure Country), and there's still room for AIR in that place haha! Unfortunately, I wasn't lucky enough to get a ticket, but you know, I'd really just love to sit and drink a beer with the man; listen to him tell some "good ol' boy" stories, maybe get him to play the guitar around a camp fire somewhere, singing along to everything I know the lyrics to (and some I've made up! Lol). Wouldn't that be somethin'...
It's on my bucket list... though, I reckon I ought to work on my persuasive skills, that or figure out how to make a hell of a lot more money than I do right now lolol

I used to go to Gruene Hall back in the early '70s, I think right after it reopened. I'd swear that's my old friend, and drummer, Tom Foote walking behind George early in the film. Brings back memories of Cheatham Street Warehouse too. Thanks!

@Rachel Dickson No Worries. I have had the pleasure of seeing him in concert twice. He had a round revolving stage the last time I saw him. Everyone in the arena was able to see him at one point or the other. Glad you enjoy his music also.

What is so amazing is that George has kept, mostly intact, the original Ace In The Hole band from its earliest beginnings. Look at old photos and videos of George playing live and compare them with the musicians backing him in this video at Gruene Hall. Aside from George adding Marty Slayton & Wes Hightower as back-up singers; adding John Michael Whitby on guitar and keyboards; adding Joe Manuel on rhythm guitar, and later replacing drummer Mike Kennedy with Bobby Jarzombek (Mike was tragically killed in a car crash in 2018), the band is the same. Mike is the drummer in this particular video. George's original drummer in the 70's, Tommy Foote, is now Strait's road manager. That is loyalty and longevity, friends. Long live The King!
