Whenever you feel iffy about your team going "off board" on a draft pick just remember that there has never, in the history of any sports league, been a Draft that would be redrafted in the exact same order 5 years down the road.

Sign tanev long term doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play the last 2 or so years leafs want and need to win now not later. Idk how ppl are upset with getting rid of a 7th and a potential bottom 6 fwd.

Because Tanev is an older- 34 going on 35- near the end of his career player who gets injured more often than not. They need better, younger defense. I hope the Leafs don't/can't sign him.

Let's be honest- if the leafs don't go for it the next 2-3 years it's rebuild time.
If you can save some cap space those 2-3 seasons by signing Tanev long term- I think that's a good deal. If they don't win a cup in 2-3 years the leafs will be n full rebuild anyway

@@hockeyfan7100 "Better" is the wrong word. Tanev is currently an ELITE defender. The injury/longevity concerns are legitimate, but he is an elite defender. Can't get much better for what he costs.

Because if Taniv wants to be a leaf, he signs here. Now Tree has to sign him at whatever cost to save face for trading for his rights.
A stupid needless move. The Leafs management continues its pathetic blunders.
There is still a chance he goes for money and a team like Utah outbid the Leafs.

Ocelari Triniec not only won their 5th consecutive Czech Senior title(doing a reverse sweep in the semis against Sparta Prague thanks to a 4OT(!) Game 7 winner), but also won the U20 league where Miro played the bulk of his games.

And I like that they are prioritizing defence as a concept. They aren’t being wowed by the offensive Ds with high point totals, they are going for defencemen that have good defensive traits with any offensive potential being a bonus. That’s a massive shift away from guys like Morgan Reilly that might as well be an extra forward playing on the back end.

Has a team in the past traded for the rights of a player and not come to an agreement and they signed with somebody else?

Look been Leaf's fan for over 50 yrs. The Leaf's play good reg season when it suits them, but when it comes to play off's they forget to click switch from reg season to play offs, an thats where they go down hill.

    But.
If you look at it another way Steve.
Leafs are on other to win now and possibly the next 2-3-4 years.
The longer the term. The lower the cap hit. Leafs may get a good 2 years out of him.Maybe 3.
Cause we all do know he ain’t gonna play out that contract. Not with the Leafs or any team.
Tanev is also looking out for hisself too. Cause if he does have 2-3 yrs left. Then LTIR. He can sit at home and collect.
We get Tanev services we’ve been wanting for ages.
    Tanev gets his future secured.
Can’t really fault Tanev for already planning out his future and money at the end of it.
Maybe we get him at 7 yr. 3 mill a year.

While I think Chris Tanev does improve the backend, I like to think the timing is really off. Like the timing itself doesn't make sense. You might get 3 years out of him tops, and losing draft capital for that? It's a mixed bag.

Am I the only one thinking trading for Tanivs rights was needless. Now Tree needs to sign him at whatever cost necessary.
If Taniv wants to be leaf, he signs here. The rights trade was a waste of a 7th-round pick.
Seems to me that Leafs are continuing to make stupid knee-jerk decisions.

Still can't draft a #1 defenceman, so.... Puck movers but not Norris-capable guys. If your D has no one who is a threat to score, then you have 3-on-5 offense, and any team will love facing that.

Nah, you got Shanafucked. Was pretty obvious Dubas was shackled by the Shanaplan by what he asked for before he left and what has transpired after he left. Maybe Dubas started down that road, but he was forced to stay on it after the fact. I guess I'll have to wait until Shanny is fired to hear y'all start bitchin about him though.

Yea…. That Cowan made me eat crow. Raw crow. With feathers still attached.
And a very good indication I am where I should be. At home. Being an armchair GM LOL
I seen one of the fan offer from leafs to flames for Markstrom. And a dman.
    See if I can remember.
    Robertson
    Minton
    Player
    Player
    1st RD pick.
    I says
Put in Cowan and take out Minton.
After seeing what I saw for his analysis was out of this world. Sportscasters and such were praising him
Again. I’m exactly where I should be. At home in my chair playing just armchair GM
That would have been a bit of a steal for flames.
But all is moot now since Markstrom was traded to Jersey. Keefe is gonna have some fun This yr. He’s already got a better goalie the. What the leafs have had in awhile lol.
Now Peafs have Tanev a right. Sign the boy. Then let’s go after Perron.
