My favourite Philippe Myers story: My dad was a teacher at an "alternative education" school for youth who struggle to make it in the regular school system. He taught lots of kids varying from those who needed an extra boost to graduate to actual murderers. One day, he was teaching in a lodge at a local park where another high school came for a field trip, and naturally his students run up and scare off the bus driver and loot all the backpacks the kids left behind. They might have barked up the wrong tree because afterwards, in walks none other than 6'7" 17 year old Philippe Myers asking for his stuff back. The students deny vehemently that they had anything to do with it, until my grandfather walks in to give something to my dad and all the kids think he's some sort of police detective (they're paranoid at this point) and they get scared. After my grandfather leaves, my dad says something along the lines of "alright, cough it up" and the kids give everything back to him, which eventually gets returned to the owners and my dad's students avoid having beef with a 6'7" NHL prospect. I'm writing this as accurately as I can from memory so I apologize if some details are off but that is the true story of how my dad met Philippe Myers.
Hey Steve huge fan from Melbourne Australia. Love your videos. As for this particular 1 I love all the signings our boys have made depth size RIGHT HAND DMEN the lot we will go far this season
I feel uneasy. Leafs couldn't defend in the Regular Season. Enter Tanev, OEL, and Stolarz (in net). In the playoffs they couldn't score. *Exit* Bertuzzi. I'm happy they re-signed Domi but this team needed *more* up front and they have less. Edmonton went out and got Skinner and Arvidsson, that is what they needed. Leafs also need some depth, what if injuries happen? Idk it feels like they're kinda punting this season and then gonna figure it out when Marner and Tavares come off the books.
This is what happens when the core 5 take up 61.6% of your cap. They did what they could with the cap space they had. The problem here is that as your implying it's probably not enough.
I have already given up until they are off the books. I'm pushing for Edmonton to win the Cup. If Mcdavid can win a cup he might be more inclined to sign with Toronto.
Part of their problem scoring is that they have absolutely no threat from the point. None of their D have a particularly scary shot and Reilly creates offence by pushing down lower in the zone. In the regular season teams don't adjust their systems much to match the opponent but they do in the playoffs so in the reg. season they can create the offence down low, but in the playoffs their opponent can leave the point unchallenged and create a 3 v 5 down low to choke out the forwards. If the puck goes to the point the D weren't really a threat to create offense with the extra space. With the upgrades on D it's possible that teams can't cheat against them in the same way. That being said they need one of their prospects to take a big step up front.
You could get more out of your forward group now that they can trust their defense a bit more, they might dare to take an extreme step forward instead of one back.

It's great that they keep trying out these depth signings, but none of it matters if the core doesn't change. Unfortunately, Leafs management and Leafs fans are so risk averse that they'd rather be a playoff failure that does well against regular season competition than take a chance on being a great playoff team that allocates money properly. The highest priced tickets in hockey can't buy you passion for winning, apparently.
My low key take on the new depth guys we signed. They all have won a championship. Same with OEL. I’ve always said that the team needs one/some guys who’ve won a championship, gained that level of experience, and are able to impart that into the team around them.

I agree with Jesse when he was saying these signings are not enough to move the needle pretty much. But I’m not mad at the signings either because Steve is finally getting right handed defenders well maybe one less now but hey!
IF it's the case where he does have a bum knee, that's gonna be a very bad look on Treliving. He's either taking a total flyer on the guy or signed him without doing due diligence.
I am pretty sure this team doesn't have Hakanpaa and the Leafs are done for this offseason. It was always Shanny's plan to see out the core 4 til the end. He bought into what Dubas fed him, which was a great regular season team. And the reason the Tavares and Marner contracts are the way they are is so he can convince MLSE next season that they are making a big play at McDavid and letting JT and Marner walk. Then having a team with the top two centres in the league.
As a Wild fan, Mermis isn't bad, he gives it his all every night, but he does love facing the goal when boxing out the net front and kicking it in his own net, it happened at least 3 times last year.
