I unironically recommend doing that. It's really just not worth getting games at launch anymore, if at all.
If you've been in the FGC for a while, you know it takes usually about 2-3 years before a game actually peak balance and content wise. If it's not your main franchise then it's a pass for at least 1-3 years. If it's good, people are gonna keep playing anyway
That is probably the smartest and most economical choice. Most people have FOMO so they’ll buy the game before it even comes out. I haven’t play Tekken in a few weeks because I’ve been busy at work but I might play it tonight to see what everyone is complaining about. 😂

I'm OK with paying for dlc characters as well as expansions. Cuz I always viewed it as "extra game" on top of base. When cosmetics came in. I said OK whatever, I just won't buy it. It's just a skin. I don't need it. But this battle pass. Battle passes don't belong in full priced games.
Well, while I haven't played most recent entries (I'm a bit slow when it comes to sequels) I've heard some horror stories about Leroy in 7. Will 8 get its own new DLC Leroy while Leroy still pays for his sins?

Broken characters remained broken...no balance/bug patches etc etc...
Nowadays we expect support...patches...updates etc etc...you know...things that cost money..

@theboulder4914 SF6 launched with them and we knew the battlepass was coming after launch plus it's utter useless and each every one of skins has to be made from the ground up together with the entire character from the devs perspective, unlike tekken which are separate items.
Tekken 8 cut vast majority of customizations from past games so they put them in the pass/shop, ultimate edition (100€) gives nothing of value torwards the shop/pass, director lying about legacy skins not being in the game because it wouldn't look good in UE5 (later added to the shop), dictor complaining about production costs as means to calm down the crowd, you can't use the replay feature they advertised so much before launch if you haven't payed for DLC characters (SF lets you trial the characters), Eddy has clear balancing issues as typical from Tekken DLCs.
Thing is, even if you don't care about customizations like me, it starts getting sour when all updates lead to yet another type of monetization but the balancing issues and boring casino gameplay style 90% of the roster has, are still in the game with no end in sight.
I'm a tekken fan too, and I think this backlash is more deserving than whatever happened to DD2 drama.
Yeah , aside from some minor issues that need to be addressed right now, Tekken 8 is simply amazing.

I was a little suspicious when the customisation options seemed less than Tekken 7 at launch but since the shop got added, now I know why.

This is why I save my money. Microtransactions are so ridiculous these days. Okay, it's understandable that video game development costs money, but come on now. Don't make your loyal players go spend even more money for something like a battle pass after they already spent around $60 or $70 for the base game. When video game company do business practices like that, they're turning their games into cash-grabs.
What's worst is that you know Tekken franchise is gonna get more predatory in later installments. Everything about this controversy was all due to patches. Imagine what Tekken 9 is gonna be like with its micro transactions present in launch?
I pray that in several years their gonna be a patch that remove these microtransactions, likely after some ultimate edition of the game.

I think the microtransaction complaints are nonsensical at this point especially considering that most consumers (at least most American consumers) of these products are likely pro capitalism and pro neoliberalism. If that’s the case then why complain? You can’t be pro capitalism/neo liberalism and believe that companies should be allowed to make money any way they see fit, but then complain when you’re affected by predatory business practices when Capitalism has always been a predatory system. Can’t have it both ways, also these extra items are optional so you don’t have to buy the extra content.

it might just be their really that expensive to make, or making the game is like eating food on their brains, soo, just more and more and more etc, thinking about it gives more fair options, if the consoles still had limitied internet it'd still be like how it used to be, but announcing new chars before the game comes out, (or close too it, even if its after its still kind of the same thing unless its a long time) bruh come on, in the past you just unlock them and their already in the game, people have money so they'll take advantage of it, but if these devs put themselves in the players shoes maybe it'd be different or their really that expensive to make, who knows
This is the most perfect example of the Tekken community being delusional and the most narcissistic of any FGC. They were pointing with the finger at SF6 and MK1 for being greedy and overpricing all their DLC. They were saying Tekken 8 is gonna be above all of them… while at the same time freely forgetting that it was Bamco first who started out with outrageous DLC‘s.
In Tekken 7, you had to pay for frame data because Harada said „i was able to play games without it, so can you!… Unless you pay for it“. Or have all this extra additional Cosmetics for your customizable character in Soul Calibur 6 instead of being able to unlock them trough playing the game or buying them in game like in SC3. Or let’s remember Tekken 7 being such a barebones game with abysmally little content that at the end, it was SF5 that looked feature rich next to Tekken 7. And to solve this, they expected you to pay over 20 bucks for Tekken Bowling.
Bandai Nsmco has been greedy from very early on and Tekken fans acting like they would be above the greedy tactics of Capcom ir NRS was irony at it’s fullest.
All that is happening in Tekken 8 is deserved and I hope it gets worse, for so long alot the Tekken community just wanted to see MK1 burn but it's still standing high despit the L's , it seems the Tekken glazers were the fickle ones all along

Tekken 5 was the last actual Tekken. Then it spiralled into Dark Resurrection and beyond.

I think tekken dr is still a balanced game tho, after dark resurrection, the upcoming game became bound and screw.
Dark resurection was amazing. Just tekken 5 with 2 more characters and more items.
Tekken 6 was the last great real tekken. Howwver tekken 6 introduced cancer modern characters like alissa and lars and introduced rage.
Im sure if technology was better they could have fixed the balancing and bugs with patches

RPG games is being smashed by an example game like Baldurs gate 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and all its content.. worth to spend at 70 dollars.. While there's no Fighting game that is all round.. except for Tekken with it generous of content.. but they apply the same stupidity like Capcom and Nether realm did.
I learned a long time ago to wait until almost the end life of fighting games to buy them, when they sell complete with all the content and for cheap.

Harada is also a complete boomer who thinks it's just young people who blame other people for losing. Tekken 8 was never the best fighting game anyway to be fair, I seem to remember at one point being able to spend hours playing the game, now I just get sensory overload and need a break every couple hours.

One of my complains about the game is the Ultimate Edition.
I bought the Ultimate Edition which is very pricey expecting that I will get access to season 1 characters and battle pass. But it turns out that only season 1 characters are only allowed and battle pass is a separate purchase. I'm so dissappinted about it.
When I bought SF6 Deluxe edition it grants me season 1 characters access and the battle pass and I'm at least satisfied about it.
Bandai Namco should be better than this. They should give us the battle pass for those who purchase the Ultimate Edition

But you will found out that the "Ultimate" you bought is not "Complete" at all.
It's just like buying a cheese burger that says it's "Complete" or "Ultimate" and then they will ask you for another 6 USD for the cheese to be added.
They should learn from Helldiver 2. Also make a pack dlc sets. I probably understand with inflation and working cost additions, but yeah, they should’ve been honest and could have put in 3 free battle pass ticket to redeem to unlock.

what changed was maybe mindset? if they had internet back in ps2 tag 2 had none either days (or if it was more developed, netflix did exist on ps2 download the chars to a memory card etc you never know) they did but limited, og xbox had dlc's they possibly woudve done the same thing

I literally called it before it happened weeks in advanced (that they'd resell eye colors)
I ain’t bothered by these updates for the simple reason I have a choice and I choose to worry about the character passes I never cared about costumes

Tekken on the PSP is one of my favorite fighting games ever. I had such a great game playing that one. I kind of feel like going back to it so Tekken 8 looks great but the tactics to have our money is not very tempting. Maybe at some point when the game is older I'd check it out and may even make a rock cover if the soundtrack is good

This game is just overhyped. Ik it’s optional to buy customization. But they fact that they planned to make a battlepass and also add eyes to it, shows exactly what there true intentions were.

At this point, the fans who lap anything up and the devs putting in predatory practices deserve each other.
I love it, at first I hated it until I saw what was inside the Battle pass you're getting back 600 Tekken coins from what you purchased for the battle pass. Plus extra poses clothes etc at least it's not as expensive as the gacha game battle passes.
Fact, to complete the battle pass on tekken 8 are far more tedious and stressful than SF6
I don't support it, but I do miss loot boxes. At least you can get some for free and win a lucky gem.
The reason o like sf6 more is because the battle pass is just a hey you like these cosmetics you can get them you don’t have to it’s just small things in the battle pass maybe a couple of clothes for your avatar but you get fight money out of just doing challenges that you can just grind for fun tekken makes it like it’s cod or something

Somethings wrong i put on tekken 8 and saw eddy came out i said ok then when i look i see the dlc was free but the game server is restricting it from happening
Mortal Kombat, one Street fighter six tech and eight all of these fighting games have one thing in common. They all suck ass now because all these companies want to do is rip off the players. I remember back in the day when you can play MVC two if you wanted to character, you had to play the game in order to get the secret characters now they want to charge you an arm and a leg for not just the character but for each and every outfit $12 for a subzero fatality. I’m sorry but I’m not playing anymore of these games. I’m gonna go back and play my old school stuff and enjoy it because it was fun. All of this stuff can go suck my ass.

This is exactly why I generally wait to buy, especially fighting games. Unfortunately there's always going to be the hardcore fanbase that buy on release no matter what.
It seems like players are more upset about the nerve of the company to have a battle pass instead of being upset about the content you can get from it. Like if there was actually somethin worth getting then i could understand the hate, but theres nothing worth spending for in Tekken or SF6 so just better to ignore them.

Thats just people going for easy wins, the community is ridded with cheap fighters, but good fights are still to be had.
It's heat mode for me. Too many 50/50 situations. Too many safe moves when characters have heat. I've been playing a lot of Tekken 8 since launch but after seeing how Eddy Gordo plays I might just sit this one out. There aren't really any fighting games nowadays that catch my eye.

*lies by omission the video* bandai namco/tekken project LIED. they were NOT honest. they knew why wouldntve gotten the large sales on launch if they were transparent and told us that TEKKEN8 had a cash shop, dlc, and a battlepass all within a 70-100usd game. and the game itself has GLARING issues online. plus the latest patch broke the whole game.

Just seeing the thumbnail, this doesn't surprise me. I mean what MODERN GAME ISN'T SCREWING its fan-base in one form, another, or ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!
Tekken 8 had the best fighters pass of them all. It made me uninstall the game forever. Now i don't deal with scummy companies with predatory DLC and microtransaction practices, and I don't to deal with a garbage game with absolutely garbage mechanics that forever ruins the face of the entire franchise.
Heck with tekken 8. It's not worth saving. Heat and Rage are the antithesis of Tekken. The sooner this game becomes irrelevant the better it is for Tekken as a whole.
At least if you bought the premium addition of MK1, you actually got basically 11 characters (6 main roster, 5 kameo) for the price, AND while they do charge (sometimes too much) for some of the skins, there are still more for free than not. From what I’ve seen of the customization in Tekken, it’s definitely not worth any extra money for any kind of battle pass. It’s terrible. Now they’re sloppily “balancing” the game into a very bad state. It’s all pretty dirty IMO.
So everyone was made up with the base game and thought it gave a lot more than mk1 and SF6 and was value for money. So why is it worse they released a store for costumes would it have made any difference if they had said it first.

I wouldn't have bought the game if I knew they were gonna add even a damn battlepass. Just because some people will say that the game was fine on release doesn't justify it.

Hello Games Developed a Game called No man's sky had a lousy launch yes but even with the lousy launch Hello games has not resorted to microtransactions they worked on what was wrong and fixed it,Tekken is a fighting game in some ways more complex but also simpler than creating an entire universe so why couldn't they just get in there and correct it without resorting to microtransactions???again acknowledging Genre difference but I think it still stands.

Battle pass is just a "job" too force player to play their game whether they want it or not using FoMO. If you play 3 game and all of them have battle pass, you be "forced" to play 3 of times each day !

they tried with eddy but fans know its bs, eddy's been there before. if a totally new char came as dlc its different, even then t1-tag 2 had no dlc and new chars without any bs

tekken 2 had a ver b. sf2 had, 4 different versions in gameplay 2 kind of the same but diffrent speed and chars ww and ce dunno sometimes people get new ideas, like how ryu got tatsumaki in air in hyper fighting and chun-li got kikoken

Microtransactions are nothing compared to what table top gamers experience and get sucked into with buying expansion after expansion while previous ones expire and are no longer playable at "modern" events and tournaments. Table top games like Magic, Heroclix, Pokemon. A brand new chase card/figure or card can be hundreds of dollars or even thousands and loses value quick, unlock a bunch of duplicates. I've been a gamer and table top gamer who has won multiple annual 6 month long tournaments and have over 4000 figures and cards. Microtransactions where you actually can see the content you are getting for $10 are a walk in the park compared to spending $200-400 hoping to get a shiny chase figure. I stopped all that and though I skip most microtransactions gear in games I play wow do gamers have it easier compared to table top gamers committed to their hobby.

I think the right pass is really good, since you pay 6 bucks ONCE and keep it for ever if you don’t spend the tekken points. They basically encourage you to spend 10 extra dollars and give it to you for free. People are whining way too much.

Paid expansions are the only reasonable after purchase for a full priced video game.. Microtransactions are maybe reasonable in free to play games.
I just stopped buying games that do this garbage. It's unfortunate.
I've saved thousands of dollars a year, but I'm not getting to play titles I otherwise would have. Smh... Boycotting with my hard-earned money.
