Hope you go back to see her to check on her welfare, i think she enjoyed your company. You showed her such care, kindness and compassion your lovely people the world needs more people like you two ♥

I think there is something mentally wrong with Jane. I know some of you out there will think I'm horrible, but I think she should be taken somewhere else, which is clean, and have someone come in every other day to check up on her. Thant's what the law is for. I had worked in home care for over 30 years, retired now, I've seen some horrible sights. Something should be done, sooner than later. I wouldn't want, someone coming in and hurting her. Just my opinion.

I’m quite alarmed and concerned at the replies that this lady is giving when you are asking questions. Having worked in elderly care I can clearly see that she’s just fobbing you off with answers you want to hear. I don’t believe she eats particularly well because if anybody was bringing her food in they wouldn’t leave her in the state she’s in. I don’t believe she’s got clean blankets and I don’t believe that the bath works or that she is capable of having a bath. I would contact social services and get them to go and assess her because I really feel she needs some help like a package of care. I hope she is ok. I thought there was a dead body in the first bed you saw especially when you said about the smell!!

I don't get it at all. What is scary about having a clean place to live and people to take care of you? I know not all assisted living places are good, and I can understand being afraid of winding up somewhere gross or with neglectful or abusive staff. But the concept as a whole isn't scary; it's the opposite. Having a roof over your head versus living in squalor or on the street? Put me in a home!

    • @pnoptic
      @pnoptic 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

@@JewelChick01 The loss of control is a scary thought, especially for those who've strived to be self-reliant their whole lifetime. I don't find the idea of spending my twilight years in such close proximity to strangers appealing, either. Some people don't feel free at all unless they're in solitude. Obviously, someone living in the conditions displayed here isn't thinking rationally and needs help, but I understand the desire to stay put.

Her living conditions are so BAD these people thought the house was abandoned. They kept talking about the STENCH. The place isn’t fit for ANYONE to live there. It should be condemned and she clearly needs assisted living. Poor thing is alone in utter filth. Obviously she’s in need.

I am a retired Police Officer and in a long career I have experienced similar cases to this, and worse where it involved decomposing bodies. You have to put your feelings to one side while dealing with these, professionalism and priorities take over or you couldn't do the job. Only later it hits you, when you think of the tragedy of someone who has been abandoned or ignored, no family or at least one who cares, who may have mental health issues or ill health. It can and does make a grown man cry and now many years later I still think back to these experiences. Life can be so unfair and there are many people living like this that most are totally unaware of.

Not true at all , there are good people all over the world ... this just happened to be a good situation with good people .. there are plenty of bad people .. all over the world as well .. have you traveled much ? I can tell you the worst place I have been and the absolute best place I have been .. and the best place I have been is definitely in the united states ! Quaint little town , where elderly are cared for by their families there are no nursing homes , they are not needed there . Everyone looks out for each other . I would tell you the name of the place , but places like that are best kept secret .. too many people take liberties and would go there just to see what they could get out of it .. thieves and burglars and just plain trouble makers ! It's the type of place that is 100s of miles from an interstate and the only reason I know of this little tiny town is because I have an aunt on my fathers side who married a widower in that town , and we visited for two days in the summer of 2014 .. i felt like i was in a dream . It was like being in a movie about an ideal paradise where everyone is happy and everyone helps everyone and nobody goes without . It's amazing how a community like that can thrive when everyone helps each other . It's like the perfect balance that one wishes to achieve in life .. I didn't even see any trash anywhere , not even a broken down car . Not even an overgrown yard . I would move there myself if I didn't have so much invested in where I am today . Don't get me wrong , I love my 400 acre property .. but there is something very special about a place that felt the way that felt . It's definitely what dreams are made of . I am sure there are similar places that exist all over the world .. and they too are probably kept as secret as possible . I understand why , I just wish all the world could be as beautiful and special .

OMG, that poor lady is in desperate need of help, it's one thing living with cobwebs and dust bunnies, but trying to live in house that is falling down around you, windows falling out, freezing cold and damp and sleeping on a filthy rotting bed, is something straight out of a horror movie. She thinks she's ok and doesn't mind living like that, but nothing could be further from the truth. You know hon, the "strange feeling" you're getting is 'on point' with many, many others' as well... My comment was about the other bedroom and if you look ON the bed, you see what REALLY LOOKS LIKE A BODY... leg lines, rib cage torso, and a pillow covering the head... (Because it's oddly raised off the mattress quite a bit, and nothing visible underneath)... It's downright chilling...
I think her old man was long mummified in that one bedroom and no one's the wiser, which in addition to hoarding, she might be holding on to her husband the same way, just more disturbing and truly mental...
The explorer gal asked why she didn't use the other bed, and she stammered, then said 'there was a hole in the flooring'... Funny, all they encountered was a very foul stench... No holes seen or mentioned... Just thought I'd pass my thoughts to ya... (Lol! My gut said there was "more" there, just not revealed...yet... So, I was right there with your 'strange feeling' too, Mamas!!)... God Bless! 🙏😇

This story reminds of my childhood back in the late '50s, early '60s.
We had an old lady who, for whatever reason, chose to live under a canvas (not a tent but a sheet from a truck) in a small wood not far from us.
She had a timely routine whereby she would come down into our small hamlet where my mother & nieghbours would make her a big mug of tea and some sandwiches to keep her health up.
She too refused help of any kind in that she was offered housing, preferring instead to 'live under the stars'.
She later did fall ill and, when she didnt appear for her tea, my mum sent us kids up to see if she was ok.
We had to call an ambulance for her as she was very poorly and was taken into hospital.
When mum was allowed, she & dad visited her in hospital and they walked past her in the ward, not through malice but because the nursing staff had showered the old lady cut and permed her hair and she looked soooo different.
Alas, after she was let out of hospital, she didn't survive much longer, succumbing to old age and the ravages of time.
God bless 'Old Kate Dalrymple' as she was fondly known as to us kids.

When you hear on the news that social care has been cut yet again, its just a news story - its only when you come into contact with the very real and human damage like this people get upset - but its the horrible reality of cuts after cuts after cuts, thats what people need to be upset about - these things need to be funded

True that, when I was a kid in the 80's I was a tear away. Always getting in truoble with the police etc. There was an old lady that lived in a smahed up old camper down a desolate country lane. I befriended her through her liking my dog, I spent a lot of time with her. She was a wonderful woman full of wisdom and through her own kindness helped me see the error of my ways. She eventually got forced into a care home and died shortly after. It was her nomadic existence that kept her going. RIP Sheila

This is probably a lot more common than a lot of us realize. We live in the United States and with the rising prices and the wedges that social media and politicians have driven into our society our elderly are suffering. We all need to make sure our neighbors know that we care about them especially our elderly neighbors. Just came across your channel and your kindness to this woman warmed my heart, thank you so much for helping her.

Back in 1989 in Florida I became homeless, an avalanche of bad things happened. I was a construction worker and next to the site was an abandoned house sitting empty, the owners had passed away. after work I would leave to shower at a local gym and return later to sleep there. it was as if the people were on vacation, fully furnished with a nice bed. there was no water or electric but it served me well until I could get back on my feet. these things happen. my memory of sitting on that bed looking out the window trying to sort everything out is burned in.

I now have a home again and I’m very thankful for everything that I have even though it’s not anything fancy. I also made sure to teach my daughter that the holidays are not about things, they are about family and I took her many times to a homeless shelter to help distribute food because I never wanted her to take for granted what she has or treat other human beings suffering as if they were nothing. I wish to tell you a story about an "abandoned" farmhouse in the mountains of the Highpoint state park area in New Jersey, USA. The door was wide open , so I invited myself in. The place was loaded with stuff. Lots of boxes, a grand piano in the large living room. I called out, asking if anyone was home, because I thought I heard movement coming from upstairs, as I slowly started to take the stairs, I stopped cold because I heard, clearly, the distinctive sound of a shotgun cocking. I didn't see it, but I definitely heard it. I made a quick exit and raced out of the door to the kitchen in the direction of my car to be met by a huge dog! Something along the St. Bernard breed. he moved toward me but I had grabbed my car door handle a threw myself in just as he reached the car. I never went back to that place.
    Be careful out there!

@@YeCatte Yes, I actually contacted Adult Human Services in the U.S. state of NM where my elderly father lived and had a wonderful, amazing social worker drive up 2 hours away plus another 30 min. drive on a dirt road to interview him because he lived alone in a cabin and was starting to worry me with signs of dementia. He would after all, get in his truck and drive and forget where he was going, where he was or how he returned. After a couple hours I escorted him back to the gate (another 30 min. drive) and he stayed and talked to me another 30 min. Basically my father would have to be in a much more degraded state of mind and living conditions such as being violent or starting fires, living in absolute filth, etc. Eventually he lived with me and my then wife in home hospice care until I could no longer keep an eye on him. One thing I'll never forget is when the interview started with me in the room the gentleman asked dad if there were any concerns and my dad looked over at me and stated how I was abusing him more or less. I remember being taken aback but the man knew his business; he'd been doing this all his working life and was near retirement himself, plus he knew the background. My dad and I loved each other dearly and we had worked together in a business for many years until he retired and I ended up taking care of him on and off for five plus years, even leaving the state to travel to him which cost myself 2 jobs and put a terrible strain on my marriage. The point is that even after I had arranged a neighbor to check on him several days a week including checking his meds and getting state services to assist in any way possible and taking him in and out to different rehab centers, i.e., nursing homes, hospitals (in 2 diff. states), back to his cabin, having him emergency choppered out (seriously, he had 2 pulmonary embolisms on separate accounts), ad nauseum........ folks just don't want to feel like someone is taking over their life. And they are embarrassed and they are frightened. I get that. I still miss him greatly. He was worth it all.

Wow, that was a weird one. From the video description I was expecting you to find a mummified corpse in one of the bedrooms, which would have been pretty horrific. But finding someone alive, living in those conditions somehow seems worse.
She obviously didn't want to make a nuisance of herself, so told you what you wanted to hear, but I was somewhat glad to hear she does have family of sorts, but she obviously still needs assistance. I just hope she ends up being cared for in a better place than that damp awful place. I'd be very surprised if it had a working hot water system, and if the electrical system is safe enough, maybe an electric heater for her bedroom for the time being. But looking at the state of that place it's probably got an archaic wiring system with no earth, so overloading it could potentially start a fire.
    Good luck to her anyway.

I wonder what happened to the "someone" living in the house when she arrived to "help" them 30 years ago? The other room with the "foul odor" appears to have a body or something in that bed underneath the covers. The authorities need to check her story out, because this situation is way off even for someone who is completely destitute and elderly.

I agree, it sounds something like a trafficking situation to me. With it being a farm, her coming to ‘help’ and living in those conditions for so very long (the house looks 1960s through and through so I suspect it was in a terrible state even in 1993), there have been stories in the news of people in similar situations being identified as victims of trafficking. I hope social services have considered this possibility and other similar scenarios but knowing how busy they are I fear she is falling through the cracks. A second opinion from Hope For Justice would be a good idea.

God bless you guys!! The lady seemed to enjoy your company (after the initial shock).
It was heartwarming to witness this interaction between the two of you and the older lady..
Poor baby, I hope she is able to live more humane soon.. no one should live in those conditions.
That old house could really look nice if someone cleaned it up, removed the old wallpaper & painted the walls!

I’d love if you could set up a fund page where we could perhaps donate a little something. A new mattress would be amazing. Curious to know if she’s in good health or gets chance to go out much. Well done guys ❤️

No one should be left to live like that. She obviously doesn't realise how bad her situation is. I've worked in care homes most of my adult life and people are bought in from similar situations not knowing that they can be looked after, fed and cared for. The transformation within a few weeks, mentally and physically is amazing. Everyone deserves a safe, clean and caring place to live especially as they get older. Bless her hope she's doing okay.

It is amazing the condition some people live in. When I was a child my father knew a family with three children. They lived in a two room house using blankets as room dividers. (They all lived in the one room the other room was where the pigs lived) Their bathroom was an outhouse; nothing wrong with that my grand parents had one and so did we. We had a toilet but only used it in the winter and bad weather. My dad added a bathroom the second year we lived there. Please be safe when exploring you never know what danger may be lurking around in these old places. I really enjoy the work you do and the background info. God Bless. Pat from Nova Scotia Canada

You made sure she wasn't completely on her own and that was pretty much all you could do. It certainly wouldn't be my choice, but I have known people who would willingly live (and were living) in that kind of squalor in exchange for the freedom of not being responsible for anything -- including themselves. It's hard to fathom.🥺
