Used to live near the tunnel and your video brouth back a lot of memories. The original tunnel (of John Henry "steel driving man" fame) visible to the right of the current "Big Bend" tunnel was actually named "Great Bend" tunnel (if you look close you can see it above the portal). Great place to train watch. I have some really good color (slide) shots of the Chessie Steam Special coming out of both ends of the tunnel.
I couldn't ask for a better compliment , bringing back some old memories. My family used to visit an aunt in Beckley and I remember being fascinated when we drove by those tunnels and up over the mountain.
I presume that drones were used on the overhead shots very skilfully managed I also take it that WVa stands for West Virginia mentioned in the song "Take Me Home Country Roads" Great location and amazingly long American freight trains! Thanks for this and greetings from the UK!! 👍👍
Yeah, most cabeese* have been converted to restaurants, houses & museum exhibits but I remember 'em on the Erie Lackawanna. Enjoyed Arcade & Attica steam trips even more:)!
Two different types of rail trains . One 4-layers 10-rails per layer and the other is 5-layers 8-rails per layer . The rails aren't drilled on either end , that seems strange to me . Still nice loads of new rail .
Rails on CWR trains are usually 1,600' long, so, 64,000 feet of rail on those trains, enough for about six miles on track. Temporary holes for joining the rails will be drilled when the rail is laid, followed by thermal adjustment and welding before the track is is put back into full revenue service.
Is that not railroad property those people are on? Trespassing? I was there earlier this year and the property was clearly posted. Maybe they are locals?

Yes, drones for the overheads. Camcorder for other videos and sound. And correct, WV = West Virginia. That tunnel is over a mile long.
@gchawkins6062 over a mile long!!! Wow...Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving Day 😊
Another great video!❤
That's quite an impressive amount of rail
Very nice video and great camera work. New subscriber. Greetings. Stefano

@brianstratton8767, is "cabeese" the plural of caboose? If it is, that's new to me.
Epic video ✨👌🏼💯
Love seeing the engine coming through the tunnel.
That is a lot of rails. They are building a whole new railroad.
Replacement rail. Continuous welded rail.

Great catches & video
Otherwise, it's a great video.
I don't mean to criticize your work. My apologies.
HOW DO THE RAIL BEND AROUND CURVES WITH THAT MUCH RAIL STACKED TOGETHER ??????????
Like 207...inscrita no Canal! Saudações do Brasil 🇧🇷
I see another tunnel to the other side. Is that abandoned?
That was the original tunnel. Both were used until the 1970's.
Does anyone know why there are so many empty coal cars going east?

A public road runs along the track up to the tunnel.
