Hi Andrew. Krita is quiet amazing. It may not have all the functions that photoshop offers to manipulate photographs, but it still can do some cool tricks.
You can do some animation in photoshop. To do so, you need to use the Timeline panel to create animation frames. I checked their website and they say, I quote: "You can also create animations using a timeline and keyframes."
Thanks very much for this. I always suspected Krita could do this, but now I know! Just one question though. - why did we create the archives group? Couldn't we just create the pencil image with that group instead of duplicating it? Perhaps I'm missing something...?
Hi Adam. Good question. It's a good habit to create archive groups when working digital just in case something goes wrong with your project. Rather to restart from zero, you restart from the point when you already did the tedious things... In this case, we didn't have much I know, but in some projects you could have 10 layers, or more, of hard base work (base paint, base line art, base effects). This saves you hours of work!!! Again, just a safety net. You don't have to do it if you don't want.

Hello. I tried to recreate your problem, but did not succeed. Therefore, I do not know how to help you. Doing some research on the matter, I found out that Krita's Color Dodge behavior can be affected by the bit depth of your document. If it's set to 16 or 32 bits, you might see more intense colors, including purple. The solution would be to create a new document with 8-bit depth and see if the issue persists. There are a few more Troubleshooting Steps I found. See below. Is there a way to make a duplicate and start over...not that I want to but not sure what to do plus the picture also has things in the background that need to come off so it is just the face. Hello Lora. When you hit the letter E to get to the eraser mode of the brush, the settings (Opacity and flow) do not change. You will need to increase the opacity and flow of your eraser mode to 100 %. Please watch my latest video. I explain a trick on how to better go back and forth between brushes and erasers. th-cam.com/video/PzXEZ5QlW7U/w-d-xo.html Also, since I cannot see what you are doing in details, it very hard for me to help you. Without knowing the details, I cannot really answer your question. Many factors could lead to this effect. For example, was the lighting in your original picture too bright or too dark. Did you forget one step in the process? Go back to the video and try again using another picture. If this happens again, please let me know.
Hello. On the very top of the interface, are TABS (File, Edit, View, Image, etc.) Go to the tab FILTER. Then, choose ADJUST and select INVERT. Have fun!😊
Hello. Are your images maybe originally small? If your images are very small, you should be able to resize them in Krita. Usually, to resize an image, I go to IMAGE, and then I use the SCALE TO NEW SIZE option. Make sure that the box of CONSTRAIN PROPORTION is checked. Another free application called Gimp can help you resize your images without losing quality. To resize an image with Gimp, simply open your image in the application. Go to Image, then Scale. Type the desired new dimensions. Finally, under QUALITY, choose SINC AS INTERPOLATION. You are done... click SCALE. I hope this helped... Have a great day.
my picture never covers the full background. i always have a little bit of white background around my picture when first import/export. How to fix? thx
I am slightly confused at the end - sorry if I am being a little dense! You seem to have a 'pencil' drawing of the photograph, then a new layer with additional details drawn by yourself (2 layers). How do you save the end result as a finished article (e.g. Jpeg image). I am totally new to Krita and art/photo software. I have converted a photograph that I am using for a project thanks to your very clear, uncluttered explanations, but just stuck as to how to proceed to get the finished article. Can you advise please? Many thanks for the very clear video, I will be following and using your skills regularly.
Hello. I need to apologize for confusing you. My video editing is not very good. Answering your question. HOW TO SAVE YOUR WORK? Go to SAVE AS. Your computer will open a new window. This is your window explorer. At the bottom, type the name of your file in FILE NAME and then, using the drop-down menu of SAVE AS TYPE, choose the following: JPEG Image (*.jpg *.jpeg *.jpe). I hope this will help you. Have a great weekend and thank you for watching my tutorials.

Hello Jumana. Is it possible that the performance of your computer is very low and cannot take Krita's functions. Do you have a powerful graphic card? If not, it may (and please understand that I am not a computer expert, so please forgive my ignorance on that subject) interfere with your Krita's functions. When I use the transform tool , It creates a slight blur. Not too big though to bother me. Go to Krita's SETTING tab, and choose CONFIGURE KRITA. Now, check the PERFORMANCE tab, below COLOR MANAGEMENT. See, if you can tweak the settings to make Krita less straining on your computer. That's all I can think of. I hope this helps a tiny bit. ☺❤
Trying to learn Krista just got it. For a super new people you don't mention how you got on that page or anything like that like when you open up krita it gives you the new file option and then it gives you things like animation comic design all those buttons which one did you get to to start all of this cuz I would love to learn and do all you're doing it but I have no idea where to go 👀🤣
Hi Danie, after you applied the blending mode, your canvas will look white. It's normal. Just go to FILTER, choose BLUR and GAUSSIAN BLUR. Use the sliders and slowly move toward the right to get where you want it to be.
You are so awesome! I’ve been trying to find a good tutorial on how to do photo to pencil since I quit using photoshop. This is the best one yet. Any chance you have a good way to do photo to comic? Thanks, your TH-cams are so helpful.
Hello Jovelyn. Kamusta. Are you asking me if you can color the pencil sketch? If this was your question, the answer is yes. You can color it if you want.
@@BladeandQuill I desaturated and inverted. Everything is fine until I use color dodge, then it turns red and orange. I followed everything step by step, but I've been unable to reproduce your results.
If you remove a layer by accident, this will happen. Let me explain. You start by importing your picture = layer 1. Let's not count the background layer, shall we? You duplicate your picture and desaturate it = layer 2 You duplicate your desaturated layer and invert it (CTRL + I) and set the blending mode to Color Dodge = layer 3 If you remove by accident layer 2 (the desaturated one) or turned off that layer, suddenly your top layer will become red, orange and yellow.
It is very hard to help when I cannot see what you are doing... The only option left is to try different pictures and see what happens. Good luck and thanks for replying to my messages. I appreciate. Have a great day.
It is a method for people to have fun and do at home. I do not believe artists would use this method to sell art. Think of people who always wanted to have a sketch of their favorite pet, or maybe a sketch of a child, friend etc... but they cannot draw. This is when the method is awesome for them. It answers their goal.
@@BladeandQuill aweee! What a good reply. I was also thinking the same. Yeah definitely and what about brushes mam. I mean if we make our custom brushes using png images( tree brushes for example) Will that too be counted as pure art?

Many factors could lead to this effect. For example, was the lighting in your original picture too bright or too dark. Did you forget one step in the process? Go back to the video and try again using another picture.
If this happens again, please let me know.
I had this too. I changed my colour model back to RGB/Alpha. This fixed it for me
Thank you. This helps.
Glad to hear it!
How do you invert the image on an iPad instead of laptop?
Hello. On the very top of the interface, are TABS (File, Edit, View, Image, etc.) Go to the tab FILTER. Then, choose ADJUST and select INVERT. Have fun!😊
I was gonna use this to start learning how to draw and trace the images but why is my image importing small
Have a great day.
omg its so cute, mu mu the cow
Can you do it with two images or no
Hi Abner. What do you mean by that? Can you be more specific? Thanks.
my picture never covers the full background. i always have a little bit of white background around my picture when first import/export. How to fix? thx
Hello. Have you tried to crop your image after you have imported it? I know that sound so simple... but sometimes, simple solutions are the best. 😊
@@BladeandQuill i will try that! thank you!
very thx
I working On tablet , how to press CTRL+I
Hello. Go to FILTER, choose ADJUST and select INVERT.
Hope you have a great day!
Hi! the import icon does not appear on my screen, is this normal?
Hello. Can you please be more specific? Thanks.
@@BladeandQuill hello!I fixed the problem, thanks! do you also make covers for romsn? I am looking for a person for the cover of the two volumes of my novel
Hello again. I am so busy, I cannot take any extra work. I have two jobs and I create videos on TH-cam. As you can see, I am super busy. So sorry, about that. I really hope you can find someone to help you. Usually, you will find illustrators on Fiverr. You should also check artists in your community or neighborhood. Best of luck!❤️
@@BladeandQuill sure ! It’s not a problem 😄
Can you tell us how to use the transform tool without it blurring the selection :(???
For a super new people you don't mention how you got on that page or anything like that like when you open up krita it gives you the new file option and then it gives you things like animation comic design all those buttons which one did you get to to start all of this cuz I would love to learn and do all you're doing it but I have no idea where to go 👀🤣
Hello J. I have a series for beginners. Try this video first. th-cam.com/video/SefIbrSyq6U/w-d-xo.html
Let me know if this helped.
thank you
Welcome!
oaky so I made thelayer blendcolor dodge and nothing happened any ideas anyone
Hi Danie, after you applied the blending mode, your canvas will look white. It's normal. Just go to FILTER, choose BLUR and GAUSSIAN BLUR. Use the sliders and slowly move toward the right to get where you want it to be.
I followed your steps it did not go blank. What do I do at this point
Hello. I would be more than happy to help, however, I will need more details. Thanks.
You are so awesome! I’ve been trying to find a good tutorial on how to do photo to pencil since I quit using photoshop. This is the best one yet. Any chance you have a good way to do photo to comic? Thanks, your TH-cams are so helpful.
Glad to hear. As for the Photo to comic tutorial, I could do one. Let me check my schedule...LOL...I am a busy person. I will put it on my list. 😉
paano po coloring nyan ?
Hello Jovelyn. Kamusta. Are you asking me if you can color the pencil sketch? If this was your question, the answer is yes. You can color it if you want.

Instead of black and white, my image shows up as red and orange. This is my first time using this software. Did I miss something?
Hello OG Dannabis. Did you (maybe) forget to desaturate your picture?
@@BladeandQuill I desaturated and inverted. Everything is fine until I use color dodge, then it turns red and orange. I followed everything step by step, but I've been unable to reproduce your results.
If you remove a layer by accident, this will happen. Let me explain.
You start by importing your picture = layer 1.
Let's not count the background layer, shall we?
You duplicate your picture and desaturate it = layer 2
You duplicate your desaturated layer and invert it (CTRL + I) and set the blending mode to Color Dodge = layer 3
If you remove by accident layer 2 (the desaturated one) or turned off that layer, suddenly your top layer will become red, orange and yellow.
Followed every step again exactly how you said, but still the same results. Oh well, thank you for trying to help.
It is very hard to help when I cannot see what you are doing... The only option left is to try different pictures and see what happens. Good luck and thanks for replying to my messages. I appreciate. Have a great day.
This tutorial is more helpful than the one I accidentally lost. Happy accident I guess ❣️
Cannot select layers and agroup in tablet... sad
Hi Ink Show... How is that possible? This is weird! What tablet are you using? I'm curious now. Thanks for replying, if you can. 😊
i habe not crtl +i how bitten must i put?
Hello. To invert an image, go to FILTER, choose ADJUST and then select INVERT. Thank you for watching and enjoy your day.
🙂👍💙💙💙
i don' t know what is color dodge in french, esquive de couleur is not something i see T_T.
Salut. Je crois que color dodge se traduit par DENSITE + dans le Krita français.
@@BladeandQuill ah merci je regarderais ça du coup ^^
but, would that be called as pure art?
i mean we have traced the image. didn't we??
It is a method for people to have fun and do at home. I do not believe artists would use this method to sell art. Think of people who always wanted to have a sketch of their favorite pet, or maybe a sketch of a child, friend etc... but they cannot draw. This is when the method is awesome for them. It answers their goal.
@@BladeandQuill aweee!
What a good reply.
I was also thinking the same.
Yeah definitely and what about brushes mam.
I mean if we make our custom brushes using png images( tree brushes for example)
Will that too be counted as pure art?
Tu es française ? :)
Bonjour DamGX illustration. Oui je suis française. Je vis et travaille aux États-Unis.
@@BladeandQuill C'est super ! Merci pour ta réponse 😊😊😊
