WOW ! I don’t think I’m being sensational when I say this project is likely to be the most prolific, fan based Star Trek project ever…and that will ever exist.
What really stands out to me is just how narrow the neck section of the Enterprise is. It seems like it's all wasted space. Why even have it? It should have been thicker and vertical, not diagonal. This is why we need to scale things out and see if they make actual sense. The TOS Enterprise looks great but they messed up designing the neck.
Remarkable! You MUST put lights in the 1/25th BIG ONE. You'll kick yourself if you don't. LEDs are quite cheap, easy and user friendly these days and will make the model totally come alive and be all the more amazing to those seeing it.
@@DrWhom Worth the effort. I've lit tiny models myself. This model will be 40 feet long! LOTS of room for wires. This man is more than clever enough to make it work.
he can just buy LEDs with batteries that have stickers, require 0 wiring, and are like under a dollar each, very small. You can also get one led pre wired set to wire up, yeah you dont have to do ANY wiring , it comes all plugged in , you can even put the battery near a warp core etc and have the led wiring go through jeffr8ies tubes
@@AckzaTV This is making too much of a compromise imo. You want all of your LEDs powered by a common power supply and operated by a common controller. This will give you all sorts of cool options. Imagine having a button panel mounted into the stand for this thing and being able to, for example, change all the lighting simultaneously and go to red alert with the touch of a button. You could even design a touch screen GUI for a tablet controlling it over bluetooth or wifi. (this might be more in keeping with the aesthetic of TNG though). I haven't even mentioned the nightmare of having to disassemble this beast after 6 months just to access all the batteries to change them. Come to think of it, where are you going to put all the batteries? Its much easier to hide thin gauge wire than to hide battery storage. It would be a total clusterfuck. The headache should be front loaded rather than kicked down the road. This is probably good advice for a project of a dramatically smaller scale, but this beast needs to run off of mains power.
When it comes to building a model for yourself, cannon doesn't matter. It's preference and imagination. And that is an amazing project! Inspired me to do something myself.
USS Defiant, Enterprise's sister did fire photons aft when she appeared in Star Trek Enterprise, 3rd season episode "In a Mirror, Darkly - Part II" so you are right on with adding an aft firing torpedo tube (and it just makes a lot of sense since aft firing photons are a feature on most starships). Watching the SFX shot, it isn't clear where they come from but it could well be from the base of the dorsal. An aft phaser bank is located above the shuttle bay (just like on the TMP refit version of Enterprise. I can't wait to see this project completed! Wish I could help. You are clearly a fan engaged in a labor of love and all fans will owe you a great debt.
I always wanted the little feature on the back of the refit dorsal to be an aft firing torpedo launcher. The blueprints usually give it another function but the idea of the ship having no aft coverage irks me, especially since the supposedly lesser Miranda packs TWO aft firing tubes.
The Defiant fires torpedoes from above the shuttlebay, from the same weapons dome we see in close-up destroying the tractor beam holding it in the Tholian docking bay.
There's an episode of TOS where Kirk orders aft weapons to be fired and the viewer can hear phasers and photons firing. They don't show it for budgetary reasons, but the two are implied.
The phasers come from two barely visible nipples to each side of the dome. When the Defiant is firing forward phasers, they also added the phaser nipples there as well, but you need to look sharp to see them. The torpedoes as you say aren't easy to spot; it does kind of look like it comes from the glowing dome but that makes zero sense. Actually, it looks like it's just above that point and reflecting off the hull. My theory is that the glow we see on torpedoes is always it's thrusters burning up. They are meant for maximum thrust and short-life and thus burn in spectacular fashion. However, the aft torpedoes are firing above the hangar AND between the warp nacelles and that's risky. So they are launched with a rail launcher and a delay on the propulsion -- once the torpedo reaches the stern, the thrusters engage and it's off. Between that and the base of the dorsal is black with a black "off" torpedo and at the resolution of TV back then would seem invisible. So the nape of the dorsal is fine.
I don't know about a legend but for the sure the build and the project is totally epic, I'm loving every minute of going deeper into the build and the physical realization of the original ship. Thanks for the encouragement and the input!
@@mrtrek2117fair enough. Either way, it's impressive! I'd say it's an epic way to audition for a model building job for movies. Even though everything is CGI now, models look much better.
I wish that Paramount would have hired a company to create an interactive version of each ship, Enterprise, Voyager, Defiant, etc. Does anyone remember Captains Chair and Star Trek Elite Force? Back when I used to play Elite Force, I always wished that they had expanded on this to create a Captains Chair but with the entire ship using the game engine for Elite Force. They could obviously do a lot better today with the modern game engines but it just doesn't seem like they're interested or think anyone would be interested in buying it. Great work on making these real life models. Subscribed and look forward to seeing you build out that model.
Paramount and CBS are more about stopping others from expanding the fanbase if they don't have a cut. Look at what happened with Stage 9 for the 1701-D. It's still out there unfinished if you look hard.
Only yesterday i wondered how the interior of the neck section would look like, as thin as it is. So your video is right on time and exactly what i needed. Thanks a lot!
LOVE the torpedo launcher. So cool to see the beginnings of some of the vast machinery we'd expect to see inside a starship. Starting to look really good!
I’m a retired engineer and I have to say this is remarkable work. My mouth was wide open throughout the video. Well done, astounding work. I totally agree with photon torpedos being bundles of condensed energy, it confused me seeing the “caskets”. And it must go without saying I’ve subscribed 😂
This is wonderful. I look forward to seeing this model completed. According to various sources, the Enterprise did have 'Life-Boats' on the saucer section. Roddenberry had always liked the idea of the saucer detaching in an emergency, but it was never meant to land on the surface of a planet. That feature was available to give the crew a chance should the rest of the ship be compromised.
The blueprints for TOS indicate four "landing pads" on the bottom of the saucer. That would have mimmicked the reports of the era of landed UFOs sporting some sort of landing gear. I don't like the idea of the entire ship landing on a planetary surface, either. The idea of a detachable saucer under impulse power making its way down to the surface would have been more believable. The saucer would not spin like traditional flying saucer reports, but being aerodynamic like a frisbee would seem to be ideal for atmospheric flight. The whole idea of a separating saucer section was probably nixed as too costly to film in miniature. The transporters were a cheaper sfx, albeit totally inventive and unique, way to transfer personnel. Still would love to see the saucer separate for planetside ops! One kewl feature never really utilized for TOS.
i dare say it's pretty accurate given what may be conflicting blueprints and having to make a lot of creative decisions to represent a 'what it's most likely to be like in real life' model.
I’m speechless. Always. I would never ever challenge your creativity! Are you kidding me? You have vision. Do not lose that. Btw I’m from Virginia USA Absolutely look forward to each installment.
That latch/hookup system is fantastic-looking, and very convincing in what would exist to scale. The photon tube is also fantastically conceived. It even makes sense in what practical use of space would exist in the "dorsal section." It really seems like each one of these builds has your imagination merging more and more into these scale worlds. Very nice.
The two bunks definitely give it a Lower Decks vib. I love it. This ship would be 4th Season. I'm ok with considering it that. It's a constantly being upgraded as the needs arise.
Truly remarkable.A model built too such a large scale from scratch is a project of massive scale!!!So many questions comes to mind I won't ask her.Love the Trek universe.
Always great to see her progress! Never saw any "cannon" portrayal of an aft torpedo launcher/launch with the Enterprise. But there was in the Enterprise episode "in a mirror, darkly". When the Defiant is leaving the Tholian asteroid base she let's loose with a Salvo. If memory serves the effects people had the torpedoes emanating from the shuttle observation/control section just above the shuttle bay doors. Obviously, not the correct location but that does grant you some license to place an aft launcher just not in the weird place they showed in that episode.
The aft torpedoes was supposed to have come from the small circular port that lies between the two impulse engine thruster outlets, but miscommunication and tight deadline put them in the wrong place.
Well the Defiant wasn't the Enterprise, the various constitution class ships are canonically different in detail. Some of the models used on screen were the AMT enterprise kit which is not physically accurate to the enterprise, with different shapes for the bridge superstructure and other details, but being used by the production to represent other ships of the class, they are accurate representations of those vessels.
Being an alternate/mirror universe, there's bound to be a few differences. I would think the Empire wouldn't like any ships getting too close behind them without being able to fire torpedos.
This is amazing. Your project is truly unique, not only because of its scale, but also because it showcases the Enterprise internally. I constructeda Enterprise model (the original E) from scratch in 1/180 scale and it was a job that took 3 years. I look forward to seeing the progress of your project !
Mike, this is absolutely amazing! You hit the nail on the head about the creativity aspect. If the blueprints don’t show it or the L Talisorium deck plans or the tech manual and or set plans, I say go for it Man, and thank you! David Kimble’s cutaway illlustrations are also great references. Again thanks for doing this! Crack on Sir.
Agreed; the dorsal is not a landing leg. I found this with a Google search... According to Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, the original Enterprise had landing gear stored underneath the two triangle-shaped hatches on the ventral side of the saucer. A third leg popped out from the cavity where the secondary hull connected to the saucer. Now this make some sense, however, landing that huge saucer would be like landing an apartment building.
That’s exactly what I always thought of the photon torpedos being - a big pulse of energy. It was the movies that decided to make them more like a submarine with its physical torpedos that had to be loaded and fired.
I agree with your "big pulse of concentrated energy" idea for the photon torpedoes. I always thought that as a kid watching the original series! Great call!
@@Kentucky71- It just made more sense to be a projected ball of energy. They’re called “PHOTON torpedoes” after all. Even in the Motion Picture they were portrayed as being “bursts” of energy. Then Wrath of Khan changed it. 😮
Incredible! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. You are correct. I don't remember the photon torpedoes in the original series, having an actual "torpedo" shape. Only a sparkly ball of highly compact energy. I'd say "Go for it!". Install an aft torpedo launcher.
So much detail you put into this. Just amazing that someone would have such passion. And I thought I was a trek fan. I believe keeping the authenticity to keeping every deck of the enterprise is important. That being said, regardless of what it being displayed on modern Star Trek shows, I don’t think any Star Fleet mother ship was meant to land on a planet nor capable of such. Voyager landed but she was an extremely small ship compared to her sister ships.
The neck always looks so small compared to the rest of the ship. It has a lot more room than i was expecting. Also, that 1/25th scale is going to be around 40ft long. That's crazy!
The turbo lift shaft could be a major structural element. Beef it up, in modern construction the elevator core and emergency stairway are built first and is the central support. The turbo lifts could travel in sloped shafts but that limits the door placement to the sides.
Fantastic work! Really, absolutely beautiful. That said, the torpedo launcher is a no go. There’s no such thing as a torpedo generator, and no room whatsoever in the neck for the necessary torpedo storage bay.
Thanks for the kind words and input. About there being no such thing as a torpedo generator, of course in the movies they were depicted as caskets that had to be loaded and fired, but in the classic show we never saw such caskets just a pulse of light firing from the ship. The whole thing is fiction so pretty much anything goes. There is also plenty of room in the dorsal to either house a torpedo generator or a 'casket' torpedo storage bay. Modern submarines cram missiles and all other manner of equipment into very limited small spaces so I'm projecting the tech forwards a few hundred years and see absolutely no issue with the space in the dorsal. If deck 14 of the dorsal housed the launcher for casket torpedos, then deck 13 of the dorsal could be entirely dedicated to storing the caskets with a delivery system from deck 13 direct to the launcher on deck 14.
More outstanding work!! As for your rear facing torpedo launcher: I understand why you did not include torpedo casings. May I suggest a middle ground option? Instead of a photon torpedo launcher what if it were a pulse cannon? Still a cool weapon at the rear, and keeping the die-hard critics happy!
Love the idea of a couple bunks near the torpedo bay. Weapons crew may have to hot-bunk it during Red Alert situations. In the US Navy we call stairs and stairways Ladders and Ladder Ways. Many are removeable from their position in order to set material condition Zebra to set the ship in water tight during General Quarters, like Red Alert.
Impressive work as always. I think Kirk mentions about using the saucer (primary hull) section to escape in the 2nd series/fifth episode 'The Apple'. I agree - the idea of the dorsal structure as a landing leg is ridiculous since the saucer section already has four external panels that act as support struts. The dorsal section would just get in the way - especially if they attempted a 'Star trek Generations' style crash landing.
Glad I stumbled on this. What a fantastically fun project you're making. Well done. An aft photon torpedo launcher? Go for it, it's your project and personally speaking I'd be hugely convinced that the original designer of the ship for the series would have included that and more had he thought deeper about it and perhaps had more time. As you build more and more I've no doubt you'll have a lot more suggestions and inclusions on what the ship should have had, better layouts and I think that's great too. I don't think people should get bothered about any of sensible additional inclusions you feel the ship should have had and probably would have had if it were a real ship, so go for it and keep enjoying it!
Sir, you are both possibly insane and totally magnificent. I’m not entirely sure that you should be allowed around sharp instruments but I cannot help but want to send you a whole bunch of X-Acto knife blades so that you can continue this remarkable (and entirely possibly insane) work. Glory to you and your project. Max
The idea of the torpedo location in the dorsal actually makes sense. Love the figures and the creation of all of this so far. Awesome Related to the saucer section, I remember reading somewhere that it could be detached from the rest of the ship during an emergency, but had to come back to a starbase to be reattached. Man, this is one big ship.
love the work on the models. my only concern would be for the cardboard being reliable for years to come with moister causing warping (no pun intended) if it were me, id consider 4x8 ft sheets of pvc used for wall coverings, or polystyrene sheets at the very least would make ideal skin for your exterior. or thats my two cents, have a great build regardless.
This is somewhat off topic, and maybe I've missed it entirely; but looking at this model youve got me wondering about what were you're thoughts on Jeffery's tubes? Layouts, access points, integration into the full build? Possibly design it around the whole power transfer system and engineering access?
I know that the refit Enterprise had four landing struts, thrusters and such for planet fall. I can't imagine landing on a planet..or anything else..unless I had to. It is not a strategic place to be if you're in enemy territory or might be expecting an enemy ship to be flying by.
The saucer separation was never intended by the designer, it was purely a fan concept that he liked. Originally the nacelles were meant to be electable and were where the power was made. The idea of a warp core is another retcon.
One more thing: on the refit, the separation line was at the top of the dorsal. While this is the original configuration of the Constitution class, it would make more sense to have the separation line in the same place. Does the turbolift shaft coming up through the dorsal not connect to a lateral shaft? Would you have to exit the turbolift and walk to another in the saucer section to travel from the bridge to the shuttle bay? Impulse engineering looks FANTASTIC!
Thanks for the input and encouragement! Yes my idea is that the turbolift serving the secondary hull ends/begins on deck 8 of the dorsal. A short walk along deck 8 to another turbolift serving the saucer section. I have a very specific reason for doing that and not having the lift travel horizontally along the deck 8 dorsal level.
Amazing model! I can't wait to see your progress. My only thoughts: I believe the blueprints have a Jeffries Tube going up the aft-spine of the dorsal structure.
I know I keep commenting about this. Dorsal deck 8 has a horizontal turbolift shaft running the length of that dorsal deck. The reason for this is that dorsal deck 8 is where the explosive bolts are located at that is set-off to release the saucer during saucer separation. These explosive bolts are located along the length of the horizontal turbo lift shaft. There is a refit that would have been part of Star Trek Phase 2 that the refitted Enterprise did have a rear firing photon torpedo, two phaser emitters above the shuttle bay and four on the ventral side of the secondaryhull.
Absolutely amazing! We love it! Matt Jefferies would be sooooo excited about this. I wish he could be there working on this with you (maybe he is). Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🖖
I've thought about cardboard builds my entire life, but I never imagined doing stuff to this scale. I also enjoy the aft torpedo launcher. In my Refit Enterprise build in Minecraft, I also included an aft torpedo launcher in the exact spot you have yours. Though I don't know if the Enterprise had an aft torpedo launcher, its still a cool addition either way.
Really well done. The only issue I would point out is that this is a structurally important part of the ship which would be under a lot of stress at sub-light speeds, so I would expect there to be some more cross-bracing
I think you're a mentalist but you've got my sub. There is no Trek I love more than the original, and the NCC-1701 is my favourite iteration of the ship. God's speed.
Good LORD! I’m not surprised you’ve already got over 50K views but I would go so far as to say that this video deserves maximum views for any Star Trek content so I predict that as the word spreads (as it surely will, I’ll be spreading it for a start) your views will continue to climb. Hat’s off to you, Sir! A gigantic undertaking! Now I’ll spread the word to help ensure that for this video, viewers will ENGAGE! 🤓
Star Trek: Enterprise's fourth season episode "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part 2" shows the photon torpedoes firing out the aft end of the USS Defiant's secondary hull somewhere above the hanger bay doors and perhaps just above where the control room is. The episode also shows a wireframe MSD cutaway display on the bridge main viewscreen that shows the layout of the ship.
then again, the SFX artists who made this did not really think of themselves as creating canon... the brief is always: look cool, done yesterday and at next to zero cost

I so badly want that 1:100 scale model. Re the rear-facing torpedo launchers: I like the idea. When people say we didn't see the Enterprise firing rear-facing torpedoes, that's fine. We didn't see the Enterprise firing anything (either phasers or torpedoes) from anywhere except the "skin" of the ship. (Limits of 1960s special effects, I know...)
Congrats on such an epic effort in building the Enterprise on such a massive scale. I had once imagined build a full size replica with the idea in mind to make it a Star Trek get away for fans, or the public in general, to have a real life Trek experience. Paid staff in costumes to serve as real life crew members performing real life logistical jobs keeping the "ship" running and the like while guests serve in command positions. What a dream (or delusion depending on who I talked too)! I would like to offer my comment as constructive criticism, not bashing. In regard to photon torpedoes (PT) being energy, it is true that in ST: TOS it was not established whether PT were a physical object or another type of energy weapon. However, it was established in ST: TMP that they are indeed a physical item. I think the explanation Decker gave to Kirk about why he countermanded Kirk's phaser order with the order to use a PT says it well. It stands to reason that ships going into deep space to unknown reaches of the galaxy need to have differing offensive and defensive capabilities at the captains disposal. Offensive energy weapons such as tuned phasers to strike against unshielded or weakly shielded targets and physical weapons such as PT to use against those that have energy shields that cannot be overcome by a single stream of focused energy. Simply put, PT deliver a powerful plasma explosion that covers a very wide range of frequencies. Some of those frequencies are absorbed by the defensive shields, but not all. The frequencies that do get through cause damage to the target vessel. Depending on the type and intensity of the frequencies that pass through the shields determines the amount of damage caused. The damage may range from mere electrical disruption or burnouts, to physical structural damage. Finally, lets not forget that ships have PT tubes, not banks. Much like submarines have torpedo tubes to release physical torpedoes. To address having reward facing PT tubes... An argument can be made that later versions of refitted, or upgraded, Constitution class star ships may have had reward facing tubes. However, in ST II: TWoK, we see that U.S.S Reliant, a Miranda class star ship, has reward facing torpedo tubes. From the armament that was installed on the Miranda class, it is apparent that the Reliant may have been more of a warship, although it did have exploration capability, whereas the Constitution class was more of an exploration ship which could defend itself. In my opinion, having the capability of firing rearward facing PT is more strategic than logistical. Photon torpedoes have homing devices built into its circuitry. Why install reward facing launch tubes unless it was strategically necessary to reduce the time for a forward facing torpedo to turn around to hit its intended target. Again I applaud your ingenuity, creativity and passion to create this wonderful masterpiece of Trek lore. It will no doubt be a special addition to the world of Trek. However, please be keenly aware that your creation is already based on a very well known, established construct, and thoughtful consideration must be taken when wanting to add things of your own just because you want to.
THis is a fantastic build. The refit is my favorite ship of all time, it is more streamlined, stronger and yacht like. Also the set design was a lot more advanced and well funded for the movie and the TV show was just a grade above cardboard sets. I believe the refit CAN fire torpedoes out of the back like the Reliant can. A torroid of concentrated energy can be shot out into atmosphere but I don't know about the vacuum of space. But it would be something like an Ion cloud of plasma blasted out in a small ring, glowing hot over 10,000 degrees or more and blasting through metal in a vacuum. I don't know if it has been done... ever..
Amazing and inspiring as always! I can see landing legs being considered in the early, pre-broadcast days, when Forbidden Planet was a major inspiration, but as Star Trek has evolved the idea of landing something so massive on a planet just seems kind of silly.
0:55 The insanity when you realise that the tour of the decks which you thought were that of the larger scale version, is actually the smaller model (which I realised after you panned to the larger model at 2:30). Insane!! Would love to see a model of the Cardassian space station in Deep Space 9.
WHOA! Dude, you're crazy! You outdid yourself! You're awesome! Bravo! 👏👏👏👏 I look forward to seeing this baby completed! 👌 You just earned a new subscriber! 😎
It makes absolute sense that the Enterprise would have a rear torpedo launcher, given how torpedos were portrayed from the movies onward, and from the subsequent series... i.e., they need a "launcher" of some kind, as they are physical objects. So I say go for it, put one in the dorsal. (I agree with you COMPLETELY about the nature of photon torpedoes in TOS and I never liked the "casket" idea either). But this brings up a point about the Enterprise as portrayed in TOS -- that many aspects of how it worked were left deliberately vague. We were never told where Main Engineering was. We were never told how turbolifts actually worked. We were never told what photo torpedoes were. And so on. These things were filled in later, at first in fandom and in published books and blueprints, and eventually some were established in onscreen canon. But in retrospect, it made the TOS Enterprise even more futuristic, really, if you think about it... that we were never told these things directly. We accepted them, and as fans we wanted to flesh them out. But much was left to the imagination. And it's a bit sad that we forgot over time that technology 300 years in the future could truly be unimaginable to us; instead, we've explained so much that some of the magic is gone. Sure, the technology seems more realizable and relatable... but sometimes I think that's a mistake. Might be better to let it be mysterious. Of course, when you're building a model, you have to portray things and make decisions. But that doesn't mean you have to be a slave to anything other than your own imagination really. Maybe the Enterprise had capabilities we were never told about, and never saw, and maybe there was only so much in the interior design that was "permanent." Not saying it could change itself like Dr. Who's TARDIS, but maybe something lower-key akin to that. Why not? These people had replication and transporter technology. They're masters of energy and matter in ways we can only dream of. Props to you, man, for doing this. This is one of the coolest personal dreams I've ever seen and it's amazing and inspiring to watch you realizing it in front of our eyes.
I agree with most of this. It also made sense that the characters would not be explaining everything all the time, they lived it it just was. I still like the idea of the torpedoes being a physical munition though as a guided weapon system. His placement of the aft launcher makes a lot of sense. Now form factor for the torpedo as a physical munition is well could make them almost anything. Sure we see what the upgraded Enterprise A was using in the movie, but that doesn't necessarily mean that that is what the torpedoes of the original ship would look like. They would likely have been an older model and could have looked very different. Weapon systems in real-life under go various stages of development and upgrades of the course of their lives. What a ship is launched with, many not be the same version of the weapon it has later in life and sister ships are often slightly different even in weapon load-outs depending on the difference between launches. Heck on screen, we see that in season 1 the bridge could not directly fire the phasers. That had to be done from phaser control. Later seasons we see that the phasers can be fired from the bridge. Which is a reasonable upgrade. Someone deciding that it would be good if they ran a wire harness from phaser control to the bridge so that some functions like targeting and firing could be done from a station on the bridge. Again, this kind of upgrade or alteration we have seen in real life naval vessels.
@@Krahazik Great points. I can imagine the TOS photon torpedoes being, maybe, spherical objects containing whatever charge was inside, but that they would partially convert to energy once fired for whatever reason.
I agree with you that the Dorsal as a landing leg is a bit silly. Unlike the later versions, the Constitution Class saucer section can only be separated _once._ If it is used for a planetary landing the space-frame would be considered non-flyable from that point on. It'd be salvage. But it _is_ meant to be separated, if needed. While escape pods could be used in an emergency, once deployed someplace, that's pretty much where they are. If they were deployed in orbit they might be able to get to the surface of a planet, but the crew would only have the meager supplies in the pods. Whereas if they had the time and need to separate the saucer, they _still_ have a fully functional space ship that could get very close to light speed and provide everything they need, even in deep space. Given the choice of which one I'd want to be stranded in, the Saucer wins, hands down. As for the Photon Torpedoes: Yes, in TOS they looked like an energy pulse when fired. But they looked the same in the movies when they were shown as physical objects. That burst of light was the matter/antimatter drive on the torpedo itself. Why would it matter? Weapon yield and guidance. The Torpedoes had a matter/antimatter warhead for a much increased yield over what phasers could deliver, especially at range, and phasers can only hit objects in line of sight from the ship. Torpedoes can accept a "Hand-off" warp field, making them FTL, _and_ can track targets that are maneuvering. So how does that affect your proposed Aft Torpedo Launcher? If only there were a cargo elevator that could move torpedoes (and other bulky cargo) from storage in the saucer down to the Aft Torpedo Launcher, or further into the secondary hull... Love your work, by the way!
I'll be amazed the model will be able to handle the weight of the saucer section. I'm guessing you've designed a display structure. It's really cool what you're doing. Everything looks awesome.
Mate this is absolutely incredible! Can’t get my head around this, you are incredibly talented. Can’t wait to see how this ends up, I’ve got all the original AMT kits (Enterprise, bridge, shuttlecraft, K-7 station, Klingon battlecruiser and exploration set), all unboxed. Love these videos pal, all the best from Brighton
Howdy again! So great to see this coming along, been here since day 1! Have you considered making 2 impulse engineering sections next to each other? I’m not sure if it’s supported by any plans, but there’s an entertaining TOS short film on TH-cam called Cookin’ With Gas, in which you see Enterprising starting up and leaving space dock. In the clip you can very clearly see the large cylinders behind the engineering grate, but from the other side on the impulse section of the saucer rim! One room for each red rectangle. It’s such a great detail for understanding scale from the exterior, and really brings realism to the ship I believe, not that you’re short on that:) Keep it up, can’t wait for the next few years.
The refit USS Enterprise had two forward and one aft torpedo launchers. The aft torpedo launcher fired from a ridge along the top of the secondary hull and above the shuttle bay doors. I know you said someone would say this but there's no reason not to accept some artistic licence from you though. It's your model to build your way.
Wiedamark Lighting makes great optical fiber lighting kits. You can get it so the wire lights up entirely, or just the tips and in various thicknesses. You can also merge them, theres so much functionality to use and they are programable with quite a few built in settings of randomness or pattern randomness. Should be great for doing all the control panels and walls where there were lights blinking.
One last thing to check out, the adhesive for securing the fiber lines; S-22863 is the part number by 3M. They do have various sizes so this may just be the DP 100 but you can get the dp 270 as well
WOW !

You're either a dedicated genius or just round the twist. Fantastic.
I'm definitely dedicated, not sure about genius, and possibly a bit round the twist! ;-)
@@nonarKitten love your theory! I’m adopting it (with your permission)!
There are no words to describe how epic this whole thing is. You are already a legend.

I like that application to the visual of the corrugated cardboard, nice!
Thanks for the sub and the support, it's greatly appreciated!
Paramount and CBS are more about stopping others from expanding the fanbase if they don't have a cut. Look at what happened with Stage 9 for the 1701-D. It's still out there unfinished if you look hard.

Every time I see a new video it gets me more amazed. This is such a HUGE project. And you doing it alone blows my mind!
Very much appreciated, thank you!

LOVE the torpedo launcher. So cool to see the beginnings of some of the vast machinery we'd expect to see inside a starship.
Starting to look really good!
Yeah, this is what would be inside a starship! Thanks for the input and encouragement!
I like that he went with the original concept for the photon torpedoes vs the film era retcon.
Bruh!!! That is MASSIVE!!! Excellent work!
Thanks for the kind words and for the sub, greatly appreciated!
I don't know how accurate it is, but I admire your attention to detail......you clearly have a lot of work in this
i dare say it's pretty accurate given what may be conflicting blueprints and having to make a lot of creative decisions to represent a 'what it's most likely to be like in real life' model.
I’m speechless. Always. I would never ever challenge your creativity! Are you kidding me? You have vision. Do not lose that.
Btw I’m from Virginia USA
Absolutely look forward to each installment.
Appreciated, thank you very much!
Very nice.
Really appreciated, thanks for the encouragement and the input!

Can’t wait to see this painted and finished
Nice job
Always great to see her progress!
Never saw any "cannon" portrayal of an aft torpedo launcher/launch with the Enterprise. But there was in the Enterprise episode "in a mirror, darkly". When the Defiant is leaving the Tholian asteroid base she let's loose with a Salvo. If memory serves the effects people had the torpedoes emanating from the shuttle observation/control section just above the shuttle bay doors. Obviously, not the correct location but that does grant you some license to place an aft launcher just not in the weird place they showed in that episode.
"Does this thing have aft torpedoes?"
"You better believe it. They're armed."
@@stevenmynes6212 The USS Defiant was the Prime Timeline one, not an Terran Empire ship Mirror Universe ship.
This is amazing. Your project is truly unique, not only because of its scale, but also because it showcases the Enterprise internally. I constructeda Enterprise model (the original E) from scratch in 1/180 scale and it was a job that took 3 years. I look forward to seeing the progress of your project !
Thank you, appreciated!
Thanks for the positive feedback ;-)
Agreed; the dorsal is not a landing leg. I found this with a Google search...
According to Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise, the original Enterprise had landing gear stored underneath the two triangle-shaped hatches on the ventral side of the saucer. A third leg popped out from the cavity where the secondary hull connected to the saucer.
Now this make some sense, however, landing that huge saucer would be like landing an apartment building.
It is your project. Make it the way you want. I think it looks great. GOOD WORK.
Thank you!
Love the idea of those bunk beds on deck 14!
That’s exactly what I always thought of the photon torpedos being - a big pulse of energy. It was the movies that decided to make them more like a submarine with its physical torpedos that had to be loaded and fired.
Later technology ;)
And they travelled like rockets - straight. A physical torpedo would also include some maneuvering jets.
@@eryqeryq 😄
Thank you very much for the encouragement and the input!
Great engine room 👍👍
Ps Star Trek nerds are the best nerds 😎
So much detail you put into this. Just amazing that someone would have such passion. And I thought I was a trek fan. I believe keeping the authenticity to keeping every deck of the enterprise is important. That being said, regardless of what it being displayed on modern Star Trek shows, I don’t think any Star Fleet mother ship was meant to land on a planet nor capable of such. Voyager landed but she was an extremely small ship compared to her sister ships.
Thanks for the encouragement and input, appreciated!
This is insane! And in a good way! Hope you will have a proper venue to have your creation displayed so the public can check it out!
The neck always looks so small compared to the rest of the ship. It has a lot more room than i was expecting.
Also, that 1/25th scale is going to be around 40ft long. That's crazy!
WOW! The Enterprise technical manual come to life!
I'm not a huge S.T. fan but I did like STNG. I like people with big ideas, big projects so I'm gonna be watching this. Good luck.
Epic, thank you, glad you are following!
this is really getting exciting well done on what you have achieved so far
Fantastic! The dream comes true! Always wanted to explore the Enterprise..... COOL!!
Thank you! It's a major part of the joy of the project, for myself and many others who always dreamed of just wandering around on the Enterprise!
More outstanding work!! As for your rear facing torpedo launcher:
I understand why you did not include torpedo casings. May I suggest a middle ground option? Instead of a photon torpedo launcher what if it were a pulse cannon? Still a cool weapon at the rear, and keeping the die-hard critics happy!
Unbelievable work sir. I'm not even that into Star Trek, but this is amazing.

Honestly, I'm real excited to see this progress! Keep up the great work!
Really appreciated that! Thank you very much!
Thanks for the input and encouragement, appreciated!
Now do it in 1 to 1! Impressive work so far, and as others have mentioned you really need some LED's in there!
It's truly a massive ship, but not ridiculously massive. Thanks for the input and encouragement!

love the work on the models. my only concern would be for the cardboard being reliable for years to come with moister causing warping (no pun intended)
if it were me, id consider 4x8 ft sheets of pvc used for wall coverings, or polystyrene sheets at the very least would make ideal skin for your exterior. or
thats my two cents, have a great build regardless.
Totally agree. Cardboard warps and is susceptible to moisture. Doesn’t hold much weight. PVC or wood would be stronger and more durable.
This is somewhat off topic, and maybe I've missed it entirely; but looking at this model youve got me wondering about what were you're thoughts on Jeffery's tubes? Layouts, access points, integration into the full build?
Possibly design it around the whole power transfer system and engineering access?
Totally agree that the saucer section could separate, but not land. At least not without crashing.
I know that the refit Enterprise had four landing struts, thrusters and such for planet fall. I can't imagine landing on a planet..or anything else..unless I had to. It is not a strategic place to be if you're in enemy territory or might be expecting an enemy ship to be flying by.
@@jameshaley8162 planets are big, easy to get lost on the surface somewhere
@DrWhom big metal disc's are very detectable.
@jameshaley8162 the novels set during the refit have the saucer being refit on the surface of earth while the engineering hull is worked on in orbit.
I really hope that some of these "study" pieces can find their way to different museums.... this is an incredible project
Amazing model! I can't wait to see your progress. My only thoughts: I believe the blueprints have a Jeffries Tube going up the aft-spine of the dorsal structure.
Not only lights, but the 1/25 model should be wired with telephone type camera lenses and wired into a closed circuit tv computer.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! 🖖
Thank you! Sometimes when I'm working late at night on the model I can sense a presence in the room, so who knows!
Thanks for the sub, and like you the 1701 is beyond doubt my favourite ship out of all the Trek ships!

Congrats. Well done.
Big project to take on.
Thanks, really appreciated!
Looking forward to your updates and progress
Thanks, should be another video up today! ;-)

Great input, thank you! Thanks for the encouragement too, very much appreciated!
Thanks for the encouragement and input, check out some other videos which explain in detail how the massive finished model will be supported :-)
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement, appreciated!
The difference between genius and madness is measured only in success! Best of luck on this project, sir! This is awesome! ^_^
Thanks for the encouragement, appreciated!
@@mrtrek2117 Live long and prosper, sir!
Sounds awesome, I'll check them out. Thank you!
One last thing to check out, the adhesive for securing the fiber lines; S-22863 is the part number by 3M. They do have various sizes so this may just be the DP 100 but you can get the dp 270 as well
You sir, are a mad man. I Salute You! 👍
Awe-Smacking Awesomeness!!!
Keep up the Great Work Brother!!!
Appreciated, thanks for the encouragement!
