    Chart or no chart, when this song came on at the roller skating rink in the 70s and 80s everybody was up.

    I was a kid in the 70s and in the 80s I was in high school. Turn 21 in 1989 it's almost 53 now. I believe this came out in the seventies and I'm thinking how can an orchestra sound like a rock band? Well that's where the electric part comes in and I owe that's what makes it electric!
    E.L.O. for short.

    A great reaction Sir. You can't go wrong with ELO... Jeff Lynne is a genius and has been creating magic for my entire 55 years here on planet Earth. So many gems spanning 50+ years to choose from. Have a look at relatively recent live Jeff Lynne's ELO performance at Hyde Park, London and Wembley Stadium 👍😊

    Try ELO: Can't get it out of my head , Livin thing, Telephone Line, Turn to stone, Mr Blue Sky.
    Jeff Lynne guitarist writer, and played in the pick-up band with fellow musicians as the Traveling Wilburys. The band was awesome; Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, late great Roy Orbison( the voice) There is a neat little piece on how they got together and just wrote a few songs down over a weekend, came out with 2- 3 albums I think. 2 Brits, +3 Yanks shortly we would lose both George Harrison (Beatles) and Tom Petty. Fun guys, good musicians.

    Stone cold classic. Their album “Out Of The Blue” that preceded this album was perhaps their finest moment. Songs like Mr. Blue Sky (which is the song you hear at the start of Guardians Of The Galaxy 2”, Wild West Hero, Turn To Stone. The whole album is a classic. This track had the opening drums sampled by Jungle Brothers, and there’s another great track off Discovery “Diary Of Horace Whimp”.

    Jeff Lynne has explained that he is singing a made-up word, "Grooss", which some have suggested sounds like the German expression "Gruß," meaning "greeting." Lynne has explained that originally he did not realize the meaning of the syllable, and he just used it as a temporary placekeeper to fill a gap in the lyrics, but upon learning the German meaning he decided to leave it in. After the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as "Bruce" that Lynne actually began to sing the word as "Bruce" for fun at live shows. ELO engineer Reinhold Mack remembers the term differently, stating that Lynne was actually singing "Bruce" as a joke in advance of an Australian tour "referring to how many Australian guys are called Bruce

    Jeff Lynne allows anybody to use ELO as a shortcut because Electric Light Orchestra is a long name.
    1 of many hits! 😎
    Next suggested video:
    Evil Woman.
    Jeff Lynne permitted Mutt Lange to sampke Sweet Talking Woman. The Mutt Lange song is Do You Believe in Love performed by Huey Lewis and the News. 🌁
    Jeff Lynne has hits as a cowriter:
    Xanadu for Olivia Newton John.
    You Got It with Roy Orbison.
    End of the Line in Traveling Wilburys.
    I Won't Back Down with Tom Petty.
    Paul McCartney lists Jeff Lynne as 1 of his favorite writers + producers. JL produced Real Love + Free As a Bird with the surviving Beatles.
    Jeff Lynne is awesome! 🎸👨‍🎤

    Check out some clips from their live shows from the past several years. They sound as good live (maybe better) than they do on the studio versions. I'm sure you've heard the song "Mr. Blue Sky" by ELO, but I'm equally sure you haven't heard the full version of it. Check out the video of it from their performance, "Live at Hyde Park" from 2014. It puts the "Orchestra" in "Electric Light Orchestra". "Telephone Line", Live at Wembley Stadium is another good one. The more you dig into Jeff Lynne, the more impressed you're going to be with him.

    Transitions on film during the 70' were not done on video, they were on basic film. They were accomplished by using several cameras at once filming from different angles at the same time. Then, they were cut and spliced together during the editing process. Some filmmakers still use this technique.

    ELO was a HUGE hit maker in the 1970s to early 1980s. There are likely many songs you would recognize you did not know were from them.
    The next song to check out is an obvious choice to many, but is a better representative of their band sound than Don’t Bring Me Down: the long version of Mr. Blue Sky. Watch it, though. You are entering a musical rabbit hole.

    • @CuzKatieSaysSo
      @CuzKatieSaysSo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reactors pause their videos to keep them from being blocked. Some get away without pausing, but not many. Now a reactor like Jamel aka Jamal, he has a huge number of subscribers and TH-cam is more likely to keep an eye on him. Some distort the video image or make the screen real small or other tricks, but trust me, most of the time they don't Want to pause the song, but have to in order to play the copyright game with TH-cam.

  • @thomaseliason8376
    @thomaseliason8376 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry to say, this ain't real ELO. By the late 70s they had some name recognition, so they purposely went pop... this is really just another catchy pop song. Their best work is "Out of the blue" - in particular "Concerto for a rainy day". That is a superb composition, on par with Moody Blues "Days of future passed".

    • @lhpl
      @lhpl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to say, but this is every bit as real ELO as Kuiama, 10538 Overture, In Old England Town, Twilight, Four Little Diamonds, Moment In Paradise, When I Was A Boy, or for that matter any other song by Jeff Lynne. It's okay if you don't like it, but that does not make it not real. Discovery has many great songs, sure, they went with the times and added a little disco flavour, but what t.f. could be wrong with that? There were many great disco songs by other artists, why hate an entire style or genre?

    • @thomaseliason8376
      @thomaseliason8376 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Repetitive as hell, one (1) beat and absolutely no meaning whatsoever in the lyrics. Other than that, it's great.

    • @lhpl
      @lhpl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thomaseliason8376 These points I almost completely agree with. And it's not a song I would put on repeat and listen to several times a day.
      But I wouldn't do that with Ma Ma Ma Belle or Down Home Town either. That does not mean these songs are not "real" ELO. It may be news to you, but Jeff obviously likes making catchy "pop" songs, and even silly and funny songs. And has always liked it. He is a fairground man at heart. Just because you prefer the ghost train doesn't mean there's no place for the roundabout.
      Oh about the lyrics of DBMD: I think they are fine, and good fun. "You're looking cute, just like a snake in the grass" is just brilliant.
