According to Trey Parker and Matt Stone it was apparently excruciatingly difficult making this movie. A simple shot of a puppet turning and walking through a door would take them a dozen takes because of how hard they were to control. I think they said making this movie was the most miserable they'd ever been but it was definitely worth it because the final product is incredible.

The South Park creators said it was so difficult dealing with all the puppets and voice overs in this film, that they would never ever ever make another film with puppets again.
Apparantly Matt Damon was quoted in a interview stating-"I thought it was brilliant! I mean, I never understood it, and then I heard an interview with them and they said the puppet came in looking kind of mentally deficient and they didn’t have time to change it, so they just made me someone who could really only say his own name."

This was specifically done in the style of ‘supermation’ perfected by the creator of The Thunderbirds, where they’re marionettes with ventriloquist style heads. The puppeteers were some of the best in the world and while they could do all the intricate movements of real people Matt Stone and Trey Parker had them purposely play up the joke of the characters being puppets having limited mobility. The opening kung fu was done for real during rehearsal.

This movie is more and more correct in it's portrayal of holier-than-thou actors every day. By now the outrageous behaviour of the caricatures in the movie is probably less egregious than the real deal.
I swear to you, Gary's 'heroic cleansing' moment in the alley almost killed me the first time I saw it. I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard.

My theater experience with this was watching with my two older brothers, since we all loved South Park. The theater was mostly full. About half of us were just dying laughing the whole time. A quarter of the people were looking around wondering why we thought it was so funny, and the rest walked out of the theater within the first 20 minutes or so. It was great.

The satire, the physical comedy of the Puppets, to just outright ludicrous little moments like the "suicide hammer" 😂

A few minutes into the movie the old people left because it wasn't really their type of humor so we had the theater to ourselves. I laughed hysterically throughout the movie and we still quote this frequently because the quotes are amazing. I love how stupid and fun this movie is.

The puppets were 22 inches tall and took 4 people to puppet one at once. The short on Matt Damon's character in the movie is that the puppet came back looking mentally slow, so they just made Matt Damon in the movie appear to have brain damage or not all there by making him say his own name.
