The GameCube keyboard controller is a desirable video game peripheral for Nintendo GameCube collectors, but for GameCube fans who just want to play their favorite games with it, does it make sense to buy one?

@@CrossChopChris one last question tho, I noticed this has 2 controller plugs, does one of them control the controller and the other the keyboard or are they both necessary and I can't use it in 4 player? I may have missed that if you mentioned it
Ooh, great question! I should have shown that in the video, too. You actually only need to connect the purple plug to the adapter in order to play games. I just double-checked this on my Switch and yes, you can do two- to four-player gaming using the adapter and four GameCube controllers, including the keyboard. 👍

Very Cool video! Such a neat piece of hardware that I hope to get a hold of one day, maybe when I can afford it lol. It would be neat to see a more in-depth video on how to get this to function as a regular keyboard on a pc with the raphnet adapter and whatnot. It would definitely be the first video explaining all of that clearly!

Okay a few things:
I love your game room layout. And I really need to get a standup desk at home like yours now since I'm working remote everyday. Since I moved into my house (+ having a child) last year I have yet to fully setup my game room lol.
And I just want to say how absurd it looks to play Smash with that thing. Cool information, although idk if I'll ever find one of those controllers to try it out with!
Thanks, Bryan! The standing desk has really been helpful over the last couple years since I got it. I still sit a lot (especially while editing), but it's nice to be able to stand for more general computer use.
It's definitely fun to play with this controller, but yeah, it's strange having your hands spread that far apart during Smash rounds. Lol

This is actually hella handy, the AC:GC server I'm on is testing keyboard support for the master decomp. I know of a guy irl who has this controller, and we can get the game to work with a virtual computer. But jurys out if it works with this legendary controller.
Got one on order since I started playing pso again on my gamecube. Video was useful in judging size comparison, I've heard some complaints about the key/buttons being too small but I have smaller hands than most guys so I don't think I'll have any issues.
This quirky controller looks like a mockup done on photoshop as an April Fool's gag.

I know that it might be to late to ask questions, but can you use this as an actual keyboard for your computer?
Yes! With the raphnet adapter.
Interesting device, unique packaging hidng two physically seperate sets of electronics, ie a standard gamecube controller alongside a custom keyboard. The bogstandard and boring controller hardware being on the purple plug and the keyboard on the white. Awesome set of videos - I was very impressed at your ability to not just once, but twice, exclusively demonstrate the uninteresting aspects of this device while providing no information on what makes it special. Fantastic use of 11 minutes. Sincerely though, if you weren't going to demonstrate the keyboard, why even plug the white plug in. Just plug in the purple plug and demonstrate that the normal gamepad part is what it is - a normal gamepad. That would have provided some potentially useful information that is otherwise not immediately obvious by just looking at the controller.
God, I would love this controller, if I had the money for it.

As a PSO fanatic, the ultimate "legitimate" way to play PSO these days would be:
1: gamecube (cheap)
2: good quality tube TV(cheap, if not outright free, but heavy!)
3: Gamecube Component cables (NOT CHEAP)
4: Gamecube Component cables (NOT CHEAP)
5: Phantasy Star Online episodes 1&2 plus(NOT CHEAP)
6: PSO keyboard controller (NOT CHEAP)
Basically, for around a grand lol
TRUE dedication!
But you can get virtually the same experience with:
Wii (cheap)
Good quality TV (tube or not depending on preference)
Wii component cables, or Hyperkin HDMI (30$)
ASCII Controller (not cheap)
PSO 1/2 ROM (free)
Nintendont (Free)
Too bad the Gamecube lack some proper buttons to be compatible with modern games, this keyboard could be the solution for having an easy accessible controller and keyboard to use on my pc. Don't like to have a Xbox One controller laying around for both Xbox One and PC, hate to reconnect all the time. Plus, this GC keyboard is so charming.
I'm gonna get one and make it my main controller for my gamecube games lol

Hold up. If it says that it doesn't support the keyboard functionality, what's the point of using this device on a computer if the keyboard DOESN'T WORK???
Not to mention, this thing is VERY expensive (at least 300 bucks)
My fiancee came with a gamecube and a gameboy advanced. All three were new to me but I'm excited about exploring their functionality. I have been researching (youtube) mods for the gamecube because with so many ports and accessibiity options to the board, it seems like an infinitely moddable platform. I'd totally like to mod it so that I can play roms on it etc. But, further than that, I'd love to make it into a sortof mini-pc, that I could use as my main home computer, for games, and mild internet use etc, I dont run a whole lot of programs. I only found out about this keyboard tonight but I;m even more stoked because I assume I could use it for this project and that would make it an even more gamecubey computer. I love it. Any info that you know about would be great. Secondarily, Do you know if ANY of the steering wheel options for gamecube are functional or even fun at all? I really wanna just go whole hog with this thing.

you did a good job showing the controller works on any GCN game, but can I type on the keyboard in a game like Animal Crossing?
To anyone reading this on the future, no if you use this controller with a gamecube it only works in PSO episodes 1 2 and 3. Any other game that has any sort of typing in it the keyboard does nothing.

Well I'm going to take an educated guess and going to assume that, the keyboard portion of the controller is not supported for anything other than Phantasy Star Online for the GameCube and with a mod for dolphin. If this thing worked with Animal Crossing New Horizons I totally get it but I can see that clearly will not.

They're small, as you'd expect, but they feel good, IMO. They're not especially clicky, but they're not too mushy either.
