Beautifully done, ladies. And yes, as you've said, not every one in the Reylo fandom is female. Proudly representing the guys' Reylo perspective since the second (out of fourteen) times I've seen the movie in the theaters. :)
Vava Roczniak Fourteen times!!!! Nice!!!!! And yes, there are many male Reylo fans!! :) Reylo shouldn't be seen as something negative, it could end up being the most epic badass romance in the Star Wars universe!
I don't understand why people say seeking romance makes you weak. What the heck? Everyone needs love to stay sane. Just because they get have a romance doesn't mean they're weak and if someone doesn't have a romantic interest that doesn't automatically make them a strong independent cool character
They wouldn't have made Kylo so attractive just to make him end up being Rey's sister or cousin. He's attractive _because_ Rey is supposed to fall for him. Edit: can we also talk about the fact that the first time we see Kylo Ren smile he's talking to Rey.
Exactly!!! I have the same feeling!! Why they made Kylo so attractive? An attractive, hot villain without any expectations for a romance is a contradiction imho. Yet I noticed that in the new trailers Kylo doesn't look as prince-like, they let Adam Driver to look more natural and raw. Why? We'll see very soon :-)
I said this exact thing after watching TFA. I remember we saw it on the first night and as soon as we sat in the car I said Kylo is getting a love interest and it will be Rey. My husband said no way, star wars villains don’t get love interests and jedi aren’t supposed to love. Then I said yeah but they unmasked him and he’s gorgeous. They wouldn’t have made him look so beautiful and cast such an attractive actor to keep him a villain. He is getting redeemed. Then my husband was like yeah, you make a good point. I thought he was going to be disfigured.
You guys always find a way to make me smile, laugh and grin like a fool. As a Reylo shipper and huge Star Wars fan your podcasts always make me feel welcome/feel a sense of belonging, brilliant video and can't wait for more. Star Wars Connection, may the force be with you ;)
This video is everything. It's so disheartening to be hated on in the fandom as a Reylo when all I'm doing is analyzing what was there in the movie (for all to see!!) and looking towards the future with an open mind. It really hurts to be called an abuse apologist and a racist and how I must somehow be wanting to diminish Rey's character--because none of that is true at all. Reylo is something beautiful, something rehabilitative, these two lonely souls strong with the Force who come from different sides of the spectrum but can find and bring balance to some godlike cosmic aura that has caused several lifetimes worth of war, pain, and suffering. Reylo if handled correctly (and I believe whole heartedly that it will be) could easily become my favorite aspect of Star Wars and I've been a die hard fan for over 20 years. The potential is so epic and so exciting, I can't stress enough how shocked I am by the backlash. Here's hoping TLJ shows just how awesome Reylo can be ❤️
psy-kylo-gy I agree with everything you said! I've also been a die hard fan for many years and never thought anyone in the SW universe could come close to my love for HanLeia. Seems I was wrong!! Ben as their son makes me want him to be redeemed so much more!! And find love!! The great thing about the Reylo community is that I think we've banded together even more because of all the hate. I've been a part of fandoms, but none so active and compelling and close as this one. I'm pretty sure Reylo will happen like we all want, but if it doesn't, I'm having fun in the meantime! 🍷😎
If any of the sneering haters took a long hard look at the way many 'reylo's have analysed why they are convinced this relationship will happen they'd see they weren't just starry eyed romantics. There are some fascinating discussions on tumblr by rational intelligent people who've simply followed the clues already laid out in the film. Some of them are kids, but they are mostly mature and sensible kids, who've followed the 'evidence' so to speak, not their hearts. But quite a few older people follow this theory, men as well as women, gay as well as straight. And those who ridicule romance, the Han/Leia romance in the original trilogy was a major part of the last two films, when the prequel trilogy was all about Padme and Anakin's romance!! Star Wars is about hope. And when Han forgave his son there was hope for his redemption. What better way than through love?
psy-kylo-gy an abuse apologist and a rascist?. Just for wanting reylo?. I don't want it, but don't mind those who do. If Disney/lucasfilm make reylo a thing fine. If not also fine.
Lol, and yet people still love Padme and Anakin together, even though he murdered children and nearly killed her AFTER they had been happily in love, and while she was pregnant with his children to top it off... But honestly, they could turn Reylo into the reverse situation and it would be better in multiple ways, since Kylo has never force-choked Rey. Anyway, this is a splendidly done analysis. Wonderful job!!
When we found out that Kylo Ren was Han and Leia's son, in my opinion that instantly ruled out Rey being another Skywalker/Solo coz SW already went down the "they're related" road with Luke and Leia 30 years ago. I would be seriously disappointed if Disney threw another pair of lost siblings (or cousins) at us. We already have a Skywalker/Solo. We don't need another one. And frankly, wouldn't it be far more interesting if Rey turned out to be a Kenobi, a Jinn (intriguing) or even a Palpatine?😱
I would be very intrigued to seeing a romance develop between Rey and Kylo/Ben. We have these two characters who are complete opposites in a way: Kylo wants so badly to embody an ideology he can't fully accept and Rey wants simply to live a simple life on Jakku waiting for her family to come back. But, they both are still very lonely and isolated people. Rey's love for Kylo would allow her to transcend that barren, soulless life of Jakku and Kylo's love for Rey could give him compassion for another such as he's never felt before. I am still trying to remain cautiously optimistic though. Although I can see a romance happening, I don't know if Disney/Lucasfilm would be too explicit about it.
I never saw Finn and Rey being a thing. It screamed FRIENDS. and soon was debunked by John Boyega himself. Also I find it so racist of Antis to treat KMTs character Rose as if she was some consolation price. Or their accusation that she was casted just to ruin FinnRey. Like excuse you? She was casted before TFA so obviously there was no romance between Finn and Rey in TFA and they never had planned one. Imma tell you, with all the hints we already have... like fuck, it's gonna be Reylo. No matter how much shit the antis talk and how many arguments they pull out of their ass, it won't change a thing. Reylos were right since Dec. 2015. Great video, guys. Also great that you included screencaps of your proof material. :) PS: the "I can take whatever I want".. I mean what the shit is wrong with people? He was referring to the things inside of her head, not her vagina. holy fuck, ant's are dumb af. :D
Trans Potato your completely right I am a reylo fan and anti's think we are racist whoa anti's wait a minute who is being racist because of rose and Finn o ya anti's they say we are racist what the hell did we say about racism holly shit anti's have no heads there was an anti I was arguing with and he called me racist becuase I said I ship rey and Kylo ren how the fuck is that racist anti's are like the dumbest people I ever seen in my damn life they don't know how to argue they say random shit that doesn't make sense and they try to act like there Better then us anti's say that oh rose ruined Finnrey that ain't true it didn't ruin finnrey there was never any romance between rey and Finn I saw a lot of chemistry between Kylo ren and rey anti's shut up and lick your own shit and realize it's gonna be reylo for god sake
Very well said. I agree with everything. I love how it was pointed out how Kylo isn't a real person, so it's important we look at the creators intentions with these characters. Love how it was also pointed out how Rey attacks first every time and Kylo is actually defending himself against her. I think most of those who are anti Reylo are people who have a problem because he's a villain, and a murderer, period, and everything else is icing on the cake, so they blow it up even more. They only see in black and white. And they fail to remember that this is fantasy and a villain and hero coming together eventually is nothing new, and actually makes a pretty epic romance because evil is eventually overcome and forgiveness, redemption and happily ever after triumph in the end.
Another fantastic video! You ladies always provide such logical and insightful analysis. It's rather frustrating that, as one of you mentioned, the Reylo theory is so often misconstrued as a desire for another "50 Shades" or "Twilight"-esque love story, which isn't at all what any of us want or expect to happen. It makes me wonder how familiar members of the 'anti' crowd are with all of the different types of fantasy romance, or even the different types of romance that have played out in the Star Wars EU (Revan/Bastila, Mara/Luke, etc.)...
Oh we needed this! Thank you so much for doing this video. I totally agree that being a strong independent woman should not shut a potential romance. Why? They are not mutually exclusive. Strong and successful women also need love in their lives. It´s about balance at the end of the day. Especially Rey who has been lonely all her life! Finding that person in Kylo and both filling that void together is IMO what makes the most sense for this trilogy. All the clues are there in TFA as you ladies carefully pointed it out. Hopefully people will finally understand after they see The Last Jedi!
There is is another thought I would like to offer that recently came to me. I think it is safe to suppose that Kylo Ren has had visions of Rey for a long time. Just as Rey has visions of Kylo. Now, even if Kylo has only seen Rey with her face hidden or with her voice too distant to make out clearly: He could still have been having visions and dreams of her for a long time. This would explain why his reaction to Mitaka's talk of a girl from Jakku is so strong (("WHAT GIRL?!?!?")) He wants to know who it is that he has been seeing in his dreams and visions potentially for years. Imagery from before The Force Awakens was released reveals the fact that while he was standing in the rain, Kylo Ren held a second lightsaber in his left hand. Was this Luke's lightsaber? No. Luke has his green one. Is it Anakin's lightsaber? I don't think so. Anakin's lightsaber is the one he seeks but does not have. Now, recall... Rey gets her visions from Darth Vader's lightsaber. Anakin was Darth Vader even before he was put into the suit. Therefore that lightsaber is connected to a darker being. Is there no irony in the fact that Rey only sees Kylo Ren as an enemy in her visions? As an opponent that frightens her? What if the lightsaber Kylo Ren was holding actually belonged not to Anakin Skywalker, but to Obi-Wan Kenobi? What if he got visions of Rey through THAT lightsaber? What if his visions of Rey were different in nature? Showing him Rey as his potential ally, friend and eventual love? Would this not explain why he seems to want Rey to see him in a good and positive light? For all his life, Kylo Ren has felt abandoned, alone, neglected, unloved and unwanted. Just like Rey. What if the Force "told" him: "Do not fear. You will not feel abandoned, alone, neglected, unloved and unwanted forever. She will help you...but you must help her...." ? Why would the Force give two people visions of each other, but show them to each other in opposing lights? Could it be because one lightsaber was connected to darkness and the other lightsaber was connected to light? If Rey had Vader's and Kylo (Ben) had Obi-Wan's lightsaber when they had their visions, that might explain why their visions of each other could be different in how each person was presented by the vision to the other person.
This was a very good way of explaining the fandom! It just boggles my mind because it's like these people never watched Star Wars before. Darth Vader SAVED Luke Skywalker and killed his own Master out of love, and I think Kylo's love for Rey will bring them together against Snoke in an epic showdown. Ben Solo has been a victim of Snoke's influence, but even at death Han Solo touched his face with love. If Han can forgive him, there must be more to this man we all thought was the enemy.
Beautiful! you all give such wonderful arguments. I will say this, I actually wasnt excited about this new trilogy UNTIL I heard about Reylo. And your videos were a big part of that (as well as "Who Talks First" podcasts). I had, as of the release of R1, only seen the TFA movie 2 times, and still thought Rey was a Skywalker. But I thought I knew where the trilogy was going and I actually didnt think there was going to BE any romance (I didnt see romantic stuff happening between finn and Rey--it seemed to much like friendship) and so I got bored. Rogue One brought me back into the Star Wars universe and then I saw a Reylo video and I was suddenly SO EXCITED! I became HOOKED to this new trilogy!!! Yes, the anti-reylo sentiments have always deeply confused me, they seem desperate to push against it even using arguments that no longer hold up (like saying it's incest, as Rey being a related family member has been debunked pretty effectively i think for anyone paying enough attention).
I'm a recent convert to REYLO. But I'm sooooo serious about it. And I've been a hard-core fan since...oh, I don't know, the 70's, which I was alive for. Reylo is the redemption for Padme and Anakin. Let's be proud and OWN IT!
I have definitely been missing out on some great podcasts! This is so wonderfully done, you guys. I love that you touch on all of the arguments against the pairing and respond with logic, excerpts from canon material, and quotes from those who have worked and/or are working on this sequel trilogy. I was very surprised when I came out of TFA shipping Reylo because I didn't anticipate their dynamic or their chemistry. I was blown over by how much I dug them. Familiar to a good bit of the audience, I expected for the romance to be in between Finn and Rey so I do somewhat understand where people are coming from. However, when I went online after the viewing the film, I was extremely disheartened by the vitriol against the pairing. It was very hurtful. But luckily the Reylo community is a great one with such sharp meta, beautiful art and fantastic stories to tell so it made and continues to make the lead up to TLJ easier and a pleasant ride. This video is a great reminder of what Star Wars actually is. Love and redemption. I'm looking forward to seeing how this exciting tale unfolds. Thank you for sharing ❤️
This is my favorite Reylo video so far. Its the only video that I have found that points out how ridiculous the sexist view people have against Rey having a guy in her life. It pisses me off as a strong female myself. Why is it that it's sexist that for a "strong" female to have a man at her side ? People are treating strong women like they shouldn't need someone in their life! It's like only women who are victims are allowed to end up in relationships. Just because she doesn't need a man doesn't mean she doesn't deserve it! I think Rey proves how strong she is by how she can help tame a strong man. I also think that it makes Kylo ren more of a man for allowing it. He's not weak, he's conflicted and it takes a man to be that aware of himself.
I'm so excited for your incredible youtube channel to blow up with tons of new subscribers after the release of the last jedi, when the star wars community realize we reylos aren't delusional or crazy. I'm proud to have subscribed to your channel months before tlj, your wonderful videos have gotten me through rough times in this fandom, when my belief in reylo becoming canon faltered, Merry Christmas to everyone at Star Wars Connection and keep up the good work.
Hi! Loved this video and just thought I'd mention that in that context (shipping Reylo) trash means 'that they really support the ship, and will do anything to protect it/make it real.' :)
Thanks for this one. All your stuff that I've seen has been first-rate. :) I've probably written other versions of this, in other posts, so I hope you excuse me repeating myself but: Despite a lot of people speaking on how closely The Force Awakens mirrored A New Hope, I've long felt that what we could be looking at is a reversal of prequel-era Anakin's arc. Not just in the sense that Kylo goes from dark to light, versus Anakin's journey from light to darkness, but also in how it's done. Anakin falls because of romantic love for Padme, plus Darth Sidious meddling with him. So romantic love is painted as (potentially) bad. Family brought him back. Well, with Ben, family has failed and driven him to the Dark Side when paired with Snoke's manipulations from the time Ben was a baby. So, this time romantic love can have its honor and reputation redeemed and restored through a healing, nurturing love between Ben and Rey Romantic love can succeed with Ben where his family failed. Star Wars has always been about love, forgiveness and the value of hope. Add in regret and remorse over his deeds, as Kylo remembers his father's love, and hopefully from within the shell of Kylo Ren, the sleeping Ben will wake up and re-emerge again as the prodigal son finds his way back home. As an aside, the more I see the one shot that we get of Kylo Ren in the teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, I'm very much reminded of pre-fall Anakin in the way that Kylo looks in that shot. Also, for Han's sake as much as Ben's, Ben must come home again. If he doesn't, Han Solo will have died in failure, in vain and for nothing. Han and Leia deserve better than that.
J. Rossi, thanks for your comment! We always enjoy your feedback, always well thought out and interesting. We agree with what you've said and actually discussed some the "Reverse Anidala/Anakin" Kylo theory in part 2 of our podcast. ^^
J. Rossi that's so cool! I actually said to a friend yesterday who is a casual fan, "it's Anakin in reverse, and with Anakin love caused the pain that lead to destruction, this time love will heal the pain that leads to rebirth and reconciliation. Great comment I love the way you wrote that.
Janet Rubio- That's very kind of you to say. I'm happy you enjoyed my words, and I will agree with you. Since this story seems to be a reversal of Prequel-Era Anakin's tale, then it is only logical to assume and suppose that love will be a key redeeming factor for Ben. Even without being a biological Skywalker, Rey is still very much the heroine of this story if she helps to save and continue the Skywalker bloodline by helping to bring the last Skywalker (Kylo/Ben) home again to the light and to his family. Note: It is BEN that Rey will help to redeem and whom she will love, not Kylo as he is now. Part of me all but yearns to hear Kylo Ren tell Snoke right to his face: "My name is Ben. Kylo Ren is dead." I hold tightly to my belief that romantic love itself MUST have redemption in the context of Star Wars precisely because it is what caused Anakin Skywalker to become Darth Vader. Thus, the Prequels painted romantic love as being something potentially very, very bad. I feel compelled to mention that in the Holy Bible love is counted as the greatest of the three great virtues, with the other two being faith and hope. Also the finding of an help meet for someone (Proverbs 18:22) is written of as a good thing and favor of the Lord. Thus it is not fair to paint it as a bad thing as the Prequels do imply. It is only proper that romantic love receives its own redemption of its virtue within Star Wars. How would this be achieved? By having romantic love get its redemption and the restoration of its honor by helping to heal Ben and free him from the shell of Kylo Ren that he is currently trapped in. Plus it will give Rey the belonging that she has craved and will free her from the loneliness that she has carried in her heart since she was roughly five years old. Love should be painted as a GOOD thing and a great healing power and virtue. A love story born of compassion and selflessness between Ben and Rey can do exactly that, and give us potentially an emotionally uplifting and heartwarming love story for the ages.
J. Rossi Yes ITA with everything you said. One foreshadow people don't really talk about is her line to Kylo at the end of the interrogation scene "you're afraid that you will never be as strong as Darth Vader. I felt that was a huge foreshadow that she will be the catalyst for his redemption arc. Vader's greatest moment of strength was coming back to the light. She will be the one to tell him if he ever wants to be as strong as Vader he will have to come back to the light.
No one ever accused Luke of being abusive to Mara Jade when they matched up against each other in the EU. They were viewed as adversaries and he was trying to convince her of Palpetines evil, and save her from the dark side. Why was that ok but Reylo isn't? You guys said exactly what I have said to people who have attacked me over loving this ship it's a sexist view because he's a man and she's a woman. Would it he this same controversy if Kylo were the good guy and Rey the evil dark side villainess ?
Great video ladies!!. I agree that there's nothing romantic about Rey and Kylo in TFA. Its all in the subtext and the specific kind of tropes that they were playing around with and plenty of people picked up on it for a reason. The subtext is there on purpose and its the excitement of what that might mean for the future of these two characters that makes Reylo appealing for so many. If they're playing around with those kinds of tropes and that kind of subtext, it could mean that the 'very interesting relationship' (JJ Abrams words ;)) they are going to have moving forward will be a romance.
I just want to add that I went to Disneyland yesterday with my school and they had a live show with actors dressed as Jedi and Sith characters and one was a female protagonist similar to Rey and one was a masked Kylo. During the show he even puts his saber near her face exactly the same way as shown in the movie, they had kids who signed up to be participants dressed as little Jedi helping her force push Kylo back into his ship. I think if Disney thought of Reylo as abusive they would not be doing these little shows for children. It was obvious that they were adversary's in a pretend battle. Just wanted to say that. I even took video and pictures of it. It was very cute and fun to watch, the crowd loved it applauding the show if it was abusive I don't think they would have applauded or allowed their children to participate in the show.
I will say that being fandom trash (whether that's for a book/movie/show/character/ship) doesn't mean you think you're a bad person or that what you love is bad, it's just that you're super obsessed with it. :)
I believe the scene he was talking to his father about being torn apart, besides being a distraction, I think that’s what he really feels and he’s telling the truth.
Some clues to the Ren-Rey connection: Kylo Ren's mother, Leia, told Han Solo with much conviction: "I know there's still light in him. I know it." If Han Solo and Luke weren't or won't be able to do it, then the only other person who would be able to "save" Kylo Ren would be Rey. They obviously have some kind of connection, and this was stated recently in the official movie's website. Interestingly, during the interrogation scene, when she asks "where am I" Kylo Ren responds, "You're my guest." Not "you're my prisoner" etc. Hmmm...Also, I think one of the most important and interesting scenes in the film is when we see him without his mask - which first occurs when he's with her. It seems to connote a willingness to connect and be vulnerable; a sign of his humanity and/or of her bringing this out. Most monsters in movies are hidden, masked or covered in black as if revealing a face would connect us emotionally to the person. Even Darth Vader, playing the stereotypical 'monster' role, stayed behind his black mask until the very end before he connects with Luke. Some people have complained that if their relationship turns into romance, this would be an abusive relationship. But you have to realize they're both coming from an adversarial perspective-they view each other as dangerous enemies to be destroyed; it's not a love at first sight scenario. In life, love can be ugly and messy; and yes, even invoke hate at first sight. There's more clues as noted in the video about a potential relationship between these two in the future. Guess we'll find out by the end of the year if these theories prove to be true.
I love this video, and I agree with a your points. I just noticed the color of Rey and Kylo's close-up shots where he is in a blue light, while she is in red. Nothing is coincidental in Star Wars, so this might foreshadow episode 9.
I can't believe we are talking about Finn and Rey and them not having a "romantic" relationship being black/white in a drama set in outer space! Or Rey and Finn couldn't possibly have a strong friendship develop because she's a girl and he's a guy. I've had lots of friends who have been guys, yet I've been married to the same guy for 24 years, and I don't see us getting a divorce at any point.
For some reasons when I first watched the movie I was like okay Finn and Ray okay when it came to the part when Ray was strapped I already felt in my soul that the scene was raylo
I listened to the commentary by J.J. Abrams...he called Kylo Ren a "prince" and later on he called "Rey" a "princess" when he was talking about the things that make up the "Star Wars" film. He made no bones about "Starkiller" being like the "Death Star", I mean it was pretty clear from his commentary. I mean the time that he mentioned Kylo Ren as "a prince" and Rey as a "princess" was about 45 minutes apart, but he said it, and I think he absolutely meant it. With Luke/Leia/Han George hadn't decided that Darth Vader was going to be Luke's father when they filmed it.

Hello everyone, I'm here after TLJ, as a fully converted. Can you believe reylo is now cannon?! :)
Great commentary; thanks for this excellent review on the Reylo theory... I wanted to point out as I was watching that in 29:23 you can see how JJ lighted those sabers on their faces in opposite colors... her face with red lighting and his face is blue lighting...
Thanks for your comments @Millenium One! You might like our Visual Storytelling in the Force Awakens 2 part discussion, which is full of this type of observation (and in fact specifically mentions the symbolism in the snow fight and in the similarity of the garments Rey and Kylo wear.) Here is a quick link: th-cam.com/video/1lnjzWf84yo/w-d-xo.html
The FoeYay and Dating Catwoman trope with shipping the Hero/Villain is not uncommon. One of Lucas's own movies Willow had the hero and villain falling for each other. So could it happen? Sure. I can take it either way.
One of my least favorite criticisms about Reylo is that he killed her father figure, so there’s no way she’ll forgive him. But the thing is... I don’t think he’ll forgive himself either
Amazing episode I really like Reylo and as a fan, I feel really excluded and dissapointed that other fans and I cannot discuss this topic on the boards.theforce.net because Reylo is practicaly demonized there and if you begin to talk about it you are threatened with ban...So I thank you for the ability to be able to listen to other passionate fans who have really well informed and great discussion about this subject :)
One thing that I just noticed, and really like, about the choker shots is that Rey is bathed in Red and Kylo is in Blue so they are "opposing sides" like how others say how each are a side of the same coin but it also brings to question the balance, if Ben comes back will we lose Rey? Or does she just draw his inner light out and take on some of the dark so he can return?
Oh, that's wonderful! I'm so happy I've found your channel. It's so good to find people who... share with you your own thoughts and conclusions:) and much-much more! Especially thank you for that one, there are a lot of clever thoughts here. I hate this pretty common belief that Reylo is a silly pairing for silly girls or insane ones (all these jokes about 50 shades of the dark side, etc). Come on, people! All SW movies are about the fight between good and evil inside a person, about strength and power of good, about redemption and forgiveness. And the new trilogy is about the same things, and that is so beautiful. But a lot of people haven't noticed that at all. That's a pity. But I hope some of them will change their minds when it will become obvious that WE WERE (ARE) RIGHT :D "We'll see" :D Thank you for being amazing! So smart and charismatic!
Thx for the videos guys. I really love them and I can't wait for more. I also love, that you put my "subtle sexual Rey" pic in your video. Excited for part 2!
I love this vid so much. I get so mad when people assume I support men abusing women whenever I express my fondness for this pair. Like...they are acting like Rey is this weak woman. NO!! She is definitely equal to him and they are enemies in war! It's war! He's not going to treat her with COMPLETE gentleness but he definitely was gentle considering it was war.
After my first viewing of the movie I definitely came away with the impression that there was a sexual tension there. So did my sister. I liked the idea and was secretly hoping it would happen but I thought that maybe I was over thinking it so I decided to not get emotionally invested in it. Then TLJ trailer hits and my husband sends me a reylo video and finally, I caved and let myself invest. I'm super excited. I just thought that it was funny that my husband was secretly shipping reylo too. Haha.
Rey does need to fall in love, hard. She's a bit too perfect. She can fight, pilot, engineer, has jedi powers, can speak a bejillion languages: Whookie, Alien, Droid ect... Her only weakness is she's waiting for her family, so if she finds love that will tick that box as well. But if it's a dark, dangerous love story at least it will create conflict. She's not exactly an active protagonist: she doesn't want to leave Jakku, she's always trying to get back, everything she does is reactionary. So a denial-style-love-story might just force her to make a decision. God I love Star Wars.
I was on this from day 1. Glad you notice too. He looks so broken right after he kills Solo and you know that if that ray of light hadn't of disapeared behind the clouds things might of been different. He still has love to give. He needs her strength to pull him back to the light.
Love the show. I can't decide whether Kylo will turn back to the light in episode 8 because if he did, the only major villain would be Snoke. If he turns back, another dark side user will have to fill Kylo's place at Snoke's side. Snoke will complete Kylo's training and I imagine that this will only take him further down the dark path. However, Adam Driver did say that we will see his humanity in episode 8. Damn, I'm confused. I'm certain of one thing, if he doesn't turn back to the light in 8, then there isn't enough time for him to come back in 9. It would be far too similar to Vader. Each trilogy has had a new protagonist and the main antagonist has lasted for 6 episodes, does anyone believe that Snoke will make it out alive of this trilogy and does anyone believe that Rey will remain the protagonist for episodes 10, 11 and 12? Daisy Ridley is only 25 years old and I can see episodes 10,11, and 12 coming before she reaches her 40's.
Noah Whyatt I think it'll be very complicated. I also think perhaps snoke will take a more prominent role as the villain. We still doesn't know who he is and his background. It's pretty clear that Kylo is straying from snoke after killing his father, so I don't think he'll willingly do his bidding any longer.
I agree with you. We're going to find out what motivates Kylo because it's not as simple as him being evil. That 'torture' scene helped greatly because he clearly doesn't enjoy what he does. You don't come across as very intimidating when you are compassionate to the person you are meant to be torturing. What really confuses me is how he was able to ruthlessly execute Lor San Tekka, who he has supposedly known since he was a child but not go through with killing Finn. It makes you wonder what the atmosphere was like at Luke's Jedi school and in terms of Finn, was he thinking: "I have to keep this guy alive or I'll never have a chance with that scavenger?" I love Empire and Revenge of the Sith but I feel that this film is going to be similar to how the Dark Knight felt when that first came out.
I don' know if reylo will happen but me and my family ship it. We love Reylo (we are 5 people and we have a priest who ships reylo too...so...). They are not joker and harley ( they have an abusive relationship). If someone ( rick or jj ) will has the courage to realize this ship, it will be a great LOVE story..
I've never been much of a star wars fan. However this is interesting and sweet. I guess I'm a stickler for forbidden romance. One of the things we don't really see is the other side, such as the loved one's of the millions luke killed, on the death star. Or the relatives or the parents of the force sensitive children who in many ways were kidnapped. Might make for an interesting point, motivation, villian, or even twist.
people forget kylo was weaken during that fight so kylo don't lose because he rey equeal he lost because a chewbacca shot with with a gun that can kill two people with one shot. he was dealing with that fact he killed his dead and he was winded form a fight with finn.
Personally, when I first viewed the interrogation scene I viewed it as just that: an interrogation that involved evidence of possible torture methods. But only because I was adopted into a military family and grew up with a clear understanding of war, interrogation & torture strategies, and prevention/resistance methods. That might sound weird and slightly dark...but, I believe, if the scene stood by itself, without Disney involvement or Reylo, it’s just is what it is: Kylo using the strategies he was most likely trained to enforce during a time of war. The “long intimate gazes” and the “sexual language” and getting close and calling out Rey for being a “scavenger” are actually methods used to convince or intimidate, destroy the ego, and push Rey to submit information. And if Rey’s agony was in fact a result of her resistance then that would be considered an active and necessary component of the interrogation process in order to wear her down and submit information. Hate to be matter of fact. BUT-what’s great about this scene is that it doesn’t stand alone and, is in fact, Disney. And, because majority of viewers don’t have the basic understanding of what interrogation and torture involves the movie capitalizes on kind of a fantasy like feeling to create an environment of sexual tension. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I think that’s what makes the movie very interesting and great-that it’s a fantasy world. So the way I see it, technically, Kylo was just doing his job. But that can be considered pretty disturbing...so I definitely think it’s better to view it as Reylo rather than torture/war interrogation best practices. I didn’t see anything Reylo in the TFA but can definitely see it in TLJ. Thanks for the vid! It's great to listen to these discussions!
Rey and Kylo, best romance and best actors in Star Wars, bar none. Compelling story. I don't see Ren as being dominant over Kylo, since he holds back with her in battle and in other ways. There is a give and take there.....If these two don't end up together, I'll feel robbed.
It has also been confirmed (I think by Rian Johnson, but I cant remember) that Kylo Ren and Ray are the two protagonists, which I think was obvious in TLJ
Wonderful video- binge watching Reylo vids now because I can't believe we have two more years to wait for Episode IX. One point made in the video, towards the end, is that there is this assumption that women just see an attractive character and, villain or not, we want to see them in a romantic light. If that was true, wouldn't every Reylo also be looking to construe a romantic arc for Armitage Hux? Domnhall Gleeson is one beautiful man, but I don't see people scrambling to find a partner for him. There is Kylux, sure, and nothing wrong with shipping that, but it doesn't have the massive following and hate that Reylo does.
Anyone who thinks kylo cannot be redeemed is frankly a shallow thinker. Human beings are flawed, without exception. There's nothing more satisfying than a Redemption story....
I adore Reylo, but Finn and Rey’s friendship is amazing! They’re adorable, and truly care about each other, but... they’re friends. That’s what I’ve seen in the movies at least.
Hang on Finn is force sensitive remember the scene when the planets were destroyed by the first order and he heard the screams but no one else on Takodana did. He's like Leia :-)
I do still feel a bit confused about the island Ahch-to; so we discover that in TLJ Rey hasn't been to Ahch-to before, however she has seen it in her dreams; and Kylo has seen that island through her mind in the interrogation scene in TFA. So does she dream of Ahch-to because the force is powerful within her, and as the island is supposedly the first Jedi temple it is calling to her to go there? Or is it simply because Luke is the last jedi and the last teacher who could show her the ways of the force? He happens to be on that island and that is why the force is giving her these dreams of the island - so that she goes to Luke and learns from him, to become a Jedi?
Thus video touches on so much that I also noticed. I watched the movie about three weeks ago and I decided that I needed to write my own fanfic to get out not only all of the things I noticed between them but to take my own liberties with Reylo. I literally hit on so many things you gals have pointed out. If your interested in checking it out the app the fanfic is on is called Wattpad and you can find my story by searching Entwined -DarkGuardian-
If there wasn´t to be a redeeming of Kylo, then the death of Han Solo is totally meaningless. For Leia to be left with nothing but a dead mate and a basically dead son, then what would be the meaning? Star Wars has always been about hope and I refuse to believe that Disney would destroy Star Wars this way...for destroy it it would in my eyes at least... And I do not believe that Disney would do the exact story again, the fans would probably roll them in tar and feathers... I mean like Vader, redeem and die... I hope that Reylo are the saviours of the galaxy, they together will balance the Force. I also believe that nothing is ever just good or bad so this theory of grey Jedi is interesting. And how could Kylo be redeemed? I don´t know but having read a lot of psychiatry, I know that people that are mentally damaged can do the most horrible things and still be "cured" with a lot of help, there are many people out there having lived through hell and returned so to speak... And in the end, it would be a hopeful future if there was a Reylo...imo anyway... And, I also think that Kylo/Ben is the Skywalker of this trilogy, not Rey...
One question doesn't let me rest, on IMDB star wars trivia Michael Fassbender and Hugo Weaving were considered for the role. how it ties up with reylo being planned when both of them, especially Hugo are too old...
Angie, thanks for your comment. There's no official information as to which roles Fassbender and Weaving were considered for, and any idea that they were considered for the role of Kylo Ren is pure speculation. Add to that the fact that he was always planned as Han and Leia's son, so he cannot be older than 30, meaning that casting any of these actors you mentioned as Kylo makes no sense. Also, Adam Driver was personally chosen by KK.
Eddie Redmayne said he auditioned for Kylo Ren at some point early in the process. They made him read a scene from Pride and Prejudice. I heard Adam didn't agree right away so it could be they were considering other options in case he didn't want the part.
Eddie Redmayne makes sense. He's sort of the right age. Even then, he claims he doesn't know for which role he auditioned, so even in this case there is some speculation. Although, if he really had to read a scene from Pride and Prejudice, my bet is Kylo. I can't see them doing this for Hux, but... who knows? www.avclub.com/article/eddie-redmayne-details-his-botched-kylo-ren-auditi-245620
Did they change the databank at Starwars.com again, because I can't seem to find some of that info there anymore? In fact, I can't find that entire paragraph that you reference and posted on this video there, unless I'm not looking in the right area. I looked at the info written for both characters.
blackeyedlily, thanks for your comment. What you're looking for is under the "Biography Gallery" section for each character. Kylo Ren's has 14 entries, the image we included is for the last entry in his gallery. Rey's gallery has 20 entries. Here is a quick link: www.starwars.com/databank/rey-biography-gallery
Thanks! I didn't know there was additional information in the gallery section of the databank. I appreciate your reply. I've got more to read about now!
Can you please make a video about the movies that inspired Rian Johnson while he was directing The Last Jedi?(Twelve O'Clock High, Three Outlaw Samurai, and To Catch A Thief). I watched To Catch A Thief and I would like to hear your opinions.
Teodora, this has been in the works for a while; thanks for your comment, hopefully we can get that up and running. If you have any thoughts or questions you'd like to share with us you can email us at starwarsconnection09@gmail.com. ^^
How about, Kylo dies, (The price of redemption) but Ren finds out she's pregnant. The skywalker line continues and potentially it's that child that is the true balance.
People have been calling twilight an abusive relation ship protecting his girl how is that abusive and how is reylo abusive reylo ain't abusive Kylo ren dosent even hurt her once
I agree with alllll of this, I'm so glad I found others that agree with me, because all of my friends think Reylo is disgusting for many reasons, so they see me as an uncontrollable fangirl when it's not the case. I just love the idea of their relationship balancing the force and her bringing out the light in him, which is so obviously there already. They explicitly say that he struggles with the light and *KINDA SPOILER ALERT* they expand in TLJ that Rey is the solution to bringing out that light in him. Their chemistry is also palpable, I don't see how people just don't see it lol 😂
well it was deleted from the orginal script but when he first encounters her'; and he is first searching her mind . he feels her loneliness and knows he is responisble for it but he had to do it and he was sorry for it. but they deleted that out of the script before hand. We have no evidence he has had any visions of anything.
once you see that then the delete force back scene fits ... also the old rumors of him standing in her place... but i am going to shock you even more .... so Ben came and he burned the tree and i think the temple caught fire ... I think he only wanted to burn the tree to hurt Luke. Ben did not hurt the kids but the temple caught fire... and again this is speculation.. but Luke returned Ben may have been gone.. I think Luke is out looking for Ben because he does care.. and if you notice but the flash back scene shows you luke with r2d2 like he is just returning and shocked by what he sees. Someone Followed Ben or Luke back as they kept the place hidden... someone else wanted the kids... to understand this you have to read Aftermath book chapter 18... Snoke has to have force users to live. and he needs to drain the life out of them.. this is also beginning to appear in the screaming citadel is how Luke is learning about it ... Tashu references it in Aftermath it is a seed planted. Either Luke had to stand by while someone drained the kids or Luke killed them to keep snoke from becoming more powerful. this is where you are goingto get a flashback scene of Ben returning and walking amoung the dead bodies... this is where both Luke and Ben lost their light sabres... this is why Luke gets angry at Ben in Ach-to he starts to Tell Rey who killed the kids... its not just the vader thing between these to men these two men blames themselves and each other for what happened to the children.
If the creators are doing this, the setup has to be on point! Because if it's not, it would be akward. And I think if they are going to do this, we only going to see them evolving this feelings this movie. Because: Spoiler from the Trailer below: With Rey training with Luke at the begining at the movie, and then getting captured by the First Order and turtured by Snoke, she seems pretty bussy for a 2 1/2 hour long movie, consindering that the other characteres like Poe and Finn have their own stories too.
If the next movie sticks to real human behavior Rey and Kylo will still be attached to each other. They are both young and he and Finn have been her most significant boy/girl relationships. She is still confused about Finn we know that from that last scene in TLJ. Rey will be more independent, lets face it she is surrounded by people who care while Kylo is more on his own. But he is still a possessive entitled little boy and we know those types of relationships are toxic. Kylo is toxic there is no doubt about it.
Soo glad to know that some guys get it too, what we ladies are seeing in both of these movies.
Well said! Backlash only makes us stronger and more creative. :)
this video made me aware how little they are actually in the movie. But damn the impression they make from just 3 scenes. What power!
psy-kylo-gy an abuse apologist and a rascist?.
As Shakespeare would say "he wooed her with his sword"
Great comment, I agree.
I feel like Reylo was ignored on youtube, actively hated on tumblr, and toxic in forums...
PS: the "I can take whatever I want"..
Whoa that's a good explanation
Fantastic! Can't wait for Parts 2 & 3!
I love your videos! They always cheer me up! :)
“We’re rooting for character development” Yesss why don’t my friends and family understand this lol
You ladies provide some wonderful insight into this theory, I am a total believer thanks to you guys! Great video!
Thank you so much!
Hi! Loved this video and just thought I'd mention that in that context (shipping Reylo) trash means 'that they really support the ship, and will do anything to protect it/make it real.' :)
Beautiful, beautiful discussion. The teaser trailer and poster for The Last Jedi strengthened so many of these points.
Thank you, Adam!
Thanks for this one. All your stuff that I've seen has been first-rate. :)
I've probably written other versions of this, in other posts, so I hope you excuse me repeating myself but:
Despite a lot of people speaking on how closely The Force Awakens mirrored A New Hope, I've long felt that what we could be looking at is a reversal of prequel-era Anakin's arc.
Part of me all but yearns to hear Kylo Ren tell Snoke right to his face:
"My name is Ben. Kylo Ren is dead."
I hold tightly to my belief that romantic love itself MUST have redemption in the context of Star Wars precisely because it is what caused Anakin Skywalker to become Darth Vader.

Yes ITA with everything you said.
Ahhh! I made that edit with Daisy going "what does it all mean!?" I'm famous y'all!:D
Agreed! Thanks for your logical, encompassing discussion. 💫
The most fascinating and accurate analysis! The force is strong with this channel!✨
I will say that being fandom trash (whether that's for a book/movie/show/character/ship) doesn't mean you think you're a bad person or that what you love is bad, it's just that you're super obsessed with it. :)
Thank you very much! I loved it. Excellent as always.
I hope so.
Excellent girls!! Thanks for this. Reylo forever!!
I noticed just recently that they're costumes armlets are the same design; this wrap around the arm thing as illustrated in your 33:17
I can't believe we are talking about Finn and Rey and them not having a "romantic" relationship being black/white in a drama set in outer space! Or Rey and Finn couldn't possibly have a strong friendship develop because she's a girl and he's a guy. I've had lots of friends who have been guys, yet I've been married to the same guy for 24 years, and I don't see us getting a divorce at any point.
I have watched this twice at work.
I realllyyyy enjoy your videos u guys are the best 💪
I see how you guys highlight this on 31:53, well done!!
Hello, fellow commenters, I come from the future and Reylo is canon. You're welcome.
OMG Pinky ships Reylo 😍
YAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!!
"Father figure" is such a stretch, Rey and Han knew each other for like a day.
Someday they'll find it, that Star Wars Connection; the shippers, the dreamers. You'll see
Amazing episode I really like Reylo and as a fan, I feel really excluded and dissapointed that other fans and I cannot discuss this topic on the boards.theforce.net because Reylo is practicaly demonized there and if you begin to talk about it you are threatened with ban...So I thank you for the ability to be able to listen to other passionate fans who have really well informed and great discussion about this subject :)
Also, where on earth did you find that Spongebob meme at 26:30? I can't stop laughing at it, awesome!!
But I hope some of them will change their minds when it will become obvious that WE WERE (ARE) RIGHT :D "We'll see" :D
Thank you for being amazing! So smart and charismatic!
Thx for the videos guys. I really love them and I can't wait for more. I also love, that you put my "subtle sexual Rey" pic in your video. Excited for part 2!
Which one is it?
Thank you! As @Denise asked, which is your picture? We'll credit you for this excellent find. ^^
It is the one at 21:35. Yeah I forgot to say which XD
@AngryDragonPuppy, we have added you to the credits. This is an excellent screen cap, nice catch!
yes thx guys. ^^
Haha.
Reylo and stormpilot are my main hope for the next movie. :3
This was incredibly intelligent discussion thank you
thank goodness yah another video love them all
lol you guys are hilarious! love it! can't wait to see where Star Wars will go!
This is really good! Loved the analysis, ladies, but when did he smile? I must have missed that.
He had a half smile in the interrogation, when he mentioned the island. Not a real smile, with teeth, but a sort of smiling face. Check it out again.
I can feel love in any movie that has Romance.
When is part 2 coming?
Should be up in a few days. Thanks!
If they don t become an actual couple then I will cry. And scream. And cry some more
I adore Reylo, but Finn and Rey’s friendship is amazing!
If your interested in checking it out the app the fanfic is on is called Wattpad and you can find my story by searching Entwined -DarkGuardian-
Sorry it's Entwined reylo 8)
ahh look at reylo now it grew up so fast!
Also, Adam Driver was personally chosen by KK.
you can't imagine how thankful I am for dispelling my suspicions!
Thank you for your answer. I look forward to watching your new videos. I love how you analyze things and I enjoy hearing your laughs!
Amazing comments I love you guys podcats's.😊😊☺☺
Yeeeey! another one!
How about, Kylo dies, (The price of redemption) but Ren finds out she's pregnant. The skywalker line continues and potentially it's that child that is the true balance.
Do you think they will do : Ben solo died when kylo killed han and that kylo ren will die at the same time as his mother so Ben Skywalker will rise ?
People have been calling twilight an abusive relation ship protecting his girl how is that abusive and how is reylo abusive reylo ain't abusive Kylo ren dosent even hurt her once
Agreed with everything you said
I agree with alllll of this, I'm so glad I found others that agree with me, because all of my friends think Reylo is disgusting for many reasons, so they see me as an uncontrollable fangirl when it's not the case. I just love the idea of their relationship balancing the force and her bringing out the light in him, which is so obviously there already. They explicitly say that he struggles with the light and *KINDA SPOILER ALERT* they expand in TLJ that Rey is the solution to bringing out that light in him. Their chemistry is also palpable, I don't see how people just don't see it lol 😂
people need to calm down.and stop being offended by everything.and I agree they will end up a couple
Rey is a kenobi just listen to Rey's theme and obiwan's theme they both contain harps ;D
the only thing I would argue is that it is true Ren and Rey have never met but I do think Ben and Kira (or whatever her real name has met )
well it was deleted from the orginal script but when he first encounters her'; and he is first searching her mind . he feels her loneliness and knows he is responisble for it but he had to do it and he was sorry for it. but they deleted that out of the script before hand. We have no evidence he has had any visions of anything.
jj delivered a mis direction and most are buying into it. He is tecnically being honest ...
once you see that then the delete force back scene fits ... also the old rumors of him standing in her place... but i am going to shock you even more .... so Ben came and he burned the tree and i think the temple caught fire ...
Because:
Spoiler from the Trailer below:
With Rey training with Luke at the begining at the movie, and then getting captured by the First Order and turtured by Snoke, she seems pretty bussy for a 2 1/2 hour long movie, consindering that the other characteres like Poe and Finn have their own stories too.
