My first car was a 510, 1973, 4 door. MEMORIES!!! I had it up to 93 mph once and it never drove better afterwards. I also had a great stereo in it that would blast George Thorogood!
Haha lol cleaned out the carbon. My dad had his all the way up to 120 mph, he was full out for some time but it did i., stock 1.6 just had aftermarket carbs and exhaust. Not too bad for 100 hp I thought.
@@ryliemidwinter2816 I had a very long piece of highway that decended a mountain. They had just painted the orange line on the shoulder . At 18, I thought driving over them and leaving a wiggly orange line was hilarious.... I sold the car in 83 and the guy who bought it dropped a big engine it, repainted it and totalled it within a few months. He showed me a picture of it at the dump. Sad.
510s were EVERYWHERE when I was a kid. Didn't know about the two different rear-end setups. Explains why they were so common on sports car tracks. Neat!
I've only watched 3 minutes, but I have to say how well you edited that intro and start of the wash. Music selection and sound mix levels are spot on, and the edit cuts are sublime!
The 510 is my favorite car ever. I built one with my Dad and drove it my senior year in high school. It broke all the time and left me stranded everywhere around San Jose. I loved that thing. I got t-boned by a PT cruiser and my 510 died. My next was my 89 240sx, my dream girl.
My first car was a Datsun 1600 (P510) 4 door in white. I loved this car and drove it for many years. I had Koni Shocks front and rear. If I had know then I would have installed a Datsun Fairlady 5 speed manual as it would have bolted right onto the engine without and adaptor and a set of twin side-draft webber carbies would have put icing on the cake.
I love that you guys put the same quality of work into a Datsun as you do a Ferrari. It's so lovely to see cars being brought back to life regardless of their prestige.
so cool. I had a Datsun 72 pickup when I was in high school in the mid 80's. Thing ran forever you couldn't kill it. This brings back a lot of great memories.
Phenomenal job! Among my favorites: the "after" passenger head restraint, the pop out windows (super cool!) and overall, what a nice color!!!! Looking forward to the green car makeover....
I love these little cars. Back then cheap cars had character. My mom had a '70 510 in olive with a vinyl roof that looked like some kind of reptile skin. Its a shame they are almost all gone, but at least many died racing!
I love watching these pro's work their magic on old forgotten cars. The before and after is so satisfying. Larry, you're right at 2 million subs! Congrats!
I swear this is like watching time go in reverse. Seeing these amazing vehicles being restored to their former glory. It’s like watching history in the making. This is why I’m trying to start a mobile car detailing and pressure washing service. That feeling of satisfaction I get every time I wash my car never gets old. And if I got paid to do it would be perfect
Just wanted to say thank you Larry for this channel. After watching for many many years and detailing my own cars I just started my own detailing business here in Phoenix Arizona. I couldn’t be more happy and I am about 6 customers deep at this point. You have armed me with so much knowledge and passion for this. Keep on being great Larry!
Down here in New Zealand, we knew that vehicle as the Datsun 1600. Very popular with boy-racers of the early 80s, because by then they were dirt cheap and rusty and nobody wanted them.....but boy could you get them to go with a twin set of 40mm Dellorto carbs, long extractors and a 2" exhaust! Slot alloy wheels (aka Tridents, Jellybeans etc) always looked good on them, as did the local Cheviot Turbo mag. Great little cars, them. What a difference a few hours of hard yakka makes, eh? She might still have a few dog-ears around, but she looked so much more the classic base for a full-on restoration once you'd finished with her! I will admit though - I approve of leaving her battle scars visible and preserving the original paint - they are only original once and that paint has many more polishes left in it. I have two 1970s vehicles in my garage that were last painted around 1984 with single-stage and all it takes is a quick buff once every couple of years (depending how often they have sat outside in the sun) and they look stunning again. Do you know how many miles the wee Datsun had travelled before she was parked?
I just want to say your videos are therapeutic....as an exdetailer by profession, I've always enjoyed the process of the project, with that said I guess it's time to give the 68 mustang in the garage a wash, thank you for all you do ammo nyc.
I'll be honest, I may pass over some of the supercar vids but I knew this one would be good. The effort to restore this vehicle was impressive, especially in our throwaway society. I am in awe of the knowledge, wisdom and passion Larry and collaborators have for what to most people, is a very mundane task. I'm not massively into cars but I am into respecting and caring for 'things' that serve you, this channel is the sole reason I use two buckets to wash my 20 year old scuffed car, I have learned so much and I thank you for it. I thank you again for encouraging me to try to do better and the little bits of philosophy you throw in to your edits, you are always on point. Please advise me of a UK distributor of your products.
This might of been answered before, but when you're doing a job like this, do you end up having to clean the cars in the second bay again given how much comes off these cars? Great end result! Blue's great.
I think he has his own pro coating on all his cars, just a quick spray down and drying up does the job! And if it’s other ‘barn finds’ they’ll need to be washed anyways.

Excellent. A part of me wants this car to be totally restored, because when I was young five of us drove from England to France and Tuscany in a five door version, with a loaded roof rack. Quite reliable of course, except that the silencer broke and a small garage in the centre of Florence repaired it in no time. Nostalgia; many thanks.

What an incredible change in this Datsun 510! The paint truly came back to life in a magical way. Thanks for the terrific content Larry and team. These videos are addictive haha.
My first car was a 1980 Datsun 310GX. I got it in 1987 (graduation year) and called it “Goldie” (guess what color it was?). Drove it five years in the desert with no a/c. Loved the five-speed manual transmission and went everywhere in it.
I have a 240z which is rocking the patina but less rust than this. The paint has flaked off in parts exposing a bit of surface rust. I'd love to have seen more detail on how you did the touch up paint work. Since I need to do a lot of that on mine also. It's amazing how much you can transform an old car like this however and I've done similar to improve my 240z but even though it's so much better I am a perfectionist and feel a bit let down by the patina. I know I shouldn't and just enjoy it, but I can't help myself.
