Her paintings fizz with energy, she was so good she was even able to paint the atoms of the matter. Was in Bradford recently to see Hockney's landscapes which the Saltaire holds on the edge of town. His Bridlington iPad landscape prints too are genius, mastering the tech in his mid 70's.
Wonderfully perceptive overview of Joan Eardley's work at Catterline. Very evocative piece where you can hear her speak and see the context. very good commentary from those who knew her. Lovely!
Wonderful exhibition and a marvellous conclusion being able to see and hear the woman. Very moving that it takes place under her own painting of a flower bouquet painted in the weeks before her death. Very poignant.
My dad had a Stall at the Barras Market in 1950s Joan would come in her wee Lambretta scooter she would buy old victoriana canvases and I believe she over painted them the picture I have is Stunning it's an old Glasgow Tennant with small Bell shaped kids in the street Graffiti in the walls of the old building this I would say judging by the 1950s label on the back would be a painting even before she started to Paint the Sampson kids there's a painting in the Mc Clennan Art Gallary of me and one of the Sampson kids outside the Casino Picture hall in Castle Street Glasgow must have been early 1950s JD.
I have a Painting me and my dad got off her when wee cleared her Studio in Cochrane St to move to Townshead Newcuty Road or St James Road in 1958 its kids in a Glasgow street McTears would not recognise this as it was not her usual Catterlines style Seascapes the young expert had I don't think see any of Joan's work when she was a student at the school if Art JD.
