- The Gladiator Demon is one who is big, ugly, and brutal. In a time since long passed, the arena was used by the night sentinels for criminals to reclaim their honor and be sent to the front lines. Now it has become nothing more than a blood sport where demons spill the innards of each other and of night sentinels. One in particular guards the Hell Priests soul and hes known as the Gladiator. Lets discuss where he comes from and what makes him so brutal!

As others have said, the Gladiator looks exactly like the original games' Hell Knights. Given the canonical fact that multiple breeds of Mancubus iterations exist, I imagine a simpler explanation is that the Gladiator is a survivor of that original subspecies of Hell Knight from Doomguy's original rampages through Hell who made it through subsequent campaigns by the Maykr-powered Doom Slayer long enough to become the champion of the Argenta death arena.

That's actually a good theory which might explain this aggression and missing eye the doom slayer may have taken out its eye in the first game and that would explain its aggression cause the Cyber Demon was very aggressive towards the doom slayer and its canon they fought in the past

Whoever the Gladiator's Shield was seems to have wanted the demon wielding it to die. As after the shield was stabbed it managed to say Kar en Tuk, which is the Argentain translation of the Doom Guy's catchphrase Rip and Tear.

@@RoanokeGaming It also chants with the chorus when it kicks in. He wants the slay to free his soul from the demon. It's believed by some to be the spirit of a mentor or something of the gladiatorial pit.

And the shield blinks green which may just be for the game's sake or it was trying to warn the doomslayer of the gladiator's incoming attack.
We went from Doom to Dark Souls.
Considering how close the Gladiator looks to the original Barons and Hell Knights, I imagine that the Barons and Hell Knights we see in 16 and Eternal are essentially a subspecies of those types of demon and the Gladiator is a member of the original Hell Knight or Baron species that became incredibly rare, since Hell is Multiversal in its structure, thanks to the influence of Doomguy wiping them out over the years.

I definitely agree with you to say that this thing isn't either nor have any relations in my honest opinion is strongly unlikely in my opinion I to beleive that the Gladiator maybe a subspecies of the Hellknight order from the one same Hellknights/Barons that attacked Doomslayers home in the 7th dimension( mainly for the fact like the og Hellkinght its skin is more of the Tanish flesh color as opposed to the Barons Crimson Red color) . The only thing I'd like to know is the Gladiator the only one of its kind or are there others of its kind we have yet to see and are they more powerful than the one we killed in the Arena
That would easily explain why the old concept art of the Baron of Hell, looks Eerily similar to the Gladiator. Hell just change his skin to brownish and bam

The gladiator looks to me to be an original Hell knight from the classic games who survived after his species was basically killed off by the doom guy. My evidence being the gladiator looks exactly like a classic hell knight from doom 2, just with an eyepatch and armor from its time on sentinel prime. As for why it still has fur, don’t forget argent energy is the combined energy of the hell essence (which is made from human souls) and wraith energy- the gladiator most likely no longer uses hell energy, or still uses primitive hell essence out of choice, thus never losing the hair on its legs/back

Yeah i was about to comment the same thing man lol. Its obvious that its the last of its kind. I watched a play through whilst playing the original on pc and saw the walls and its the gladiator. Its amazing to see the original baron in eternal.
Yeah I also agree with the original baron idea since the baron of hell came before the hell knight. Hell knights were introduced in doom 2, while the barons were introduced in doom 1

I like to think that the flashing eyes on the shield are intentional from the soul trapped inside it. He's made to watch as his corrupted body is made to slaughter the innocent for blood sport, and wants it to stop. The flashing eyes is the soul within telling the Slayer, "He's about to attack! Now's your chance!"
I always thought of him as a callback to the old Hell Knights, nothing more

I like to think that the Gladiator was a Hell Knight from the original doom games that followed the Doom guy from his original timeline to get revenge. This is why the Gladiator is almost identical to the original Hell Knights
I've seen it tossed around that this guy's a bit reference to the older Baron of Hell design from Doom 2, and honestly, probably not too far off. Another option of course would be a non-augmented classic Cyberdemon.

I'd like to point out that the gladiator is literally one of the old Hell Knights, presumably the last of its kind, as the slayer likely slaughtered them all in Doom 1 and 2, and his stint in hell, likely the reason why the new design is around

It's clearly someone sick, but what is this sickness and how did it change that person. I know this is a selfish request, but I hope it can make it into a video. I don’t think Jeff was a combine creation. Combine Synths often look more “natural” with technology implanted in a way that seems organic. Jeff, on the other hand, looks like a grotesque abomination that was probably infested with a parasitic Xen species.

My theory kind of comes into the fact that the gladiator is very resembling to classic Barons and Hellknights from Classic Doom so maybe he’s a holdover from the hell that invaded Doomguy’s world that was captured and over time became the champion of the arena. Other theories maybe being a sentinel who’s been becoming more and more demonic over his time as the hell priests prized fighter. The beauty of doom is that all these theories are pretty possible because hell works in mysterious ways

Personally, I believe The Gladiator is one big throwback, he looks like a classic Hell Knight as many others have said, but his shield also appears to have a stone bust of an Eternal Archvile. In Doom 1 and 2, there's a wall texture of what appears to be an AV face, so maybe that's what his shield is
Not only does he look like the og hell knight but its basically confimed that he is one, infact hes the last of that type of hell knight
I like to believe, considering how Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are continuations of the classic doom games, that the gladiator is an original hell knight, that was apart of the demonic invasion toward the sentinels, and as it got older and older, arriving around the same era as the doom guy, it got more powerful, along with a little more exposure to argent that lead to it becoming a beast in the ring, its tortured masters soul possibly being that of a sentinel who had tamed the beast
The Gladiator doesn't get enough love as compared to The Marauder. This beast of a demon had its entire right have demolished and still managed to fight back against Doomguy.
The other mace is actually there on its back.
You never get behind the Gladiator so I assumed the second mace just "appeared" after the shield was destroyed.

Is it possibly a remnant of the original Barons/Knights from the original DOOM? They have 5 digits and while not as large, are certainly similarly structured if a bit smaller.
I've always liked the idea that the gladiator is the last of his kind he is the most powerful and last of the original hellknights from the original doom games.

Ive always thought of the hell knights and barons in 16 and eternal to be the newest in the evolutionary tree while this gladiator was one of the older species still kicking from Doom 1 or 2. This guy is essentially Rocky Balboa fighting in his old age.
I like the gladiator it was a pretty cool demon in the game. You know what else was a cool demon in Doom Eternal? The Cyberdemon. You should do the Doom Eternal cyberdemon

My theory is that as the demons evolved after their first encounter with the Slayer pre Divinity machine. The gladiator looks just like a Hell knight did in Doom 2. I believe this was taken from Hell and got beefed up before the rest evolved from the energies.

Very awesome video! However, I think its worth noting that if you look at the hands of the Zombie Soldiers, you can see their fingers merging together to form 4 fingers instead of 5. You said no bone changing could be seen, but you can clearly see it there. Just something you should look into.

@@procow2274 Yeah, I think the main reason was that, due to all the Argent D'Nur lore, which I don't think ever mentioned the Slayer to have been an outsider before, it seemed like he was a different character than the original Doomguy and I don't remember any info that suggested otherwise at the time.
But until The Ancient Gods came out, there were still people doubting that Samuel Hayden is the Seraphim, despite them laying down an entire bakery's worth of bread crumbs.

I think that maybe the gladiator is a preserved hellknight, as in the original games, maybe a hellknight was trapped in a cave or something and has not evolved into the new hellknights along with the barons of hell.

I'd like to see more variants of this creature kind of make a return in the series. Like: this one, the red ones and the fireball attacks and stuff. Most without shields. And some that might hold other weapons or none at all.
I'm pretty sure the Baron is taller than the Gladiator, but then again, I've never fought the Gladiator at close range so it might just be an illusion.

The Mancubus had a huge design change going from a more alien look to having a vaugly human look. You could discuss the possibility that mancubie and other demons are a sort of final form that some species take when exposed to HECK energy. That would explain some of the redesigns for demons looking somewhat human (specifically the heck Knight and Mancubus).
Gladiator is one of the last surviving variants of barons of hell from doom 1993, remember a lot of variants of demons were wiped out entirely or at least a mass majority of them by the slayer and his sentinels. Notice the face similarity and the fur on its legs and back like the original barons, its main source of energy seems to have changed to yellow makyr and sentinel energy, which he uses in his attacks and in his eye. The ability to channel fire balls is being used to power his weapons. This baron is just combat trained, the other original barons from 1993 are more feral and use brute force. Killing the gladiator is hard to do to show how hard it was to kill the original ones. Hell, the slayer had to glory kill him like 3 times just for him to stay down.
The Gladiator is an ancient first-generation Hell Knight. This is the kind of Hell Knight that the Slayer encountered while he was a mortal. It was designed after the original Doom games. In Doom l-ll, the Hell Knights looked like this.
I just realized that you could probably cover a bunch of the stuff in Cyberpunk 2077 since it has a bunch of ways you can modify your body

What I'm reading from the comments of the gladiator being an og hell knight and multiple breed/iterations of Mancubus existing. Hell has some "presets" of demons that they try and fit whatever it has to work with, and if none of the presets work they just get turned into a brand new demon that also may become its own preset. Either case having this morphology and "evolution" to track

I would like to note I believe that the gladiator is a more powerful version of it's species as if you look in the images of the story of the sentinels they appear a lot but seem to be much smaller they also seem to have been the main solders of the demon army but ultimately something happened to them that decreased the population to the point where the only one seen is the gladiator which could even be the last of there kind
