I am a taurus and I happen to have fallen head over heels for this constellation last winter.... It was my first dip into stargazing.... I am so moved by it😭😭😭😭😭
As a newcomer to astronomy its frustrating how many astronomy videos concern choice of telescope, quantum physics or event horizons. How refreshing to find some material that simply teaches you to read the sky. Thank you!
It's interesting to think about how the constellation of Taurus is one of the oldest known and that people that are born under its zodiac sign are often told they are old souls. At least in my experience.
Thank you! That was an amazing talk-walk through of Taurus and the Hyates, that I was specifically looking for information on. I definitely will come back to your channel to learn more about our wonderful universe and its star systems.
You are an amazing teacher. Your videos are a delight to watch and your comprehensive presentation makes it easy for a noob like me. Thank you for sharing the knowledge with us.
I've been an avid astronomy fan and stargaze my whole life...But after your video, I've picked up a few new pointers from you and see the sky in a more beautiful way....Thanks for sharing
Thank you for your message...I'm glad you are learning a few more things. I find every time I go outside with a good, dark sky, I will always find something I haven't seen before. Happy stargazing!
The golden calf mentioned by Moses in the Bible was Hathor, the Egyptian Goddess, who many women still wanted to worship when they left Egypt. I had the opportunity to visit the prehistoric caves in the early 1970's and they were awe-inspiring.
Wow... Thank you for sharing your knowledge... And the way you explain things very simple and very deep at the same time so its in perfect balance. Thanks again...
15:19 is that Cancer or is that Perseus? I thought Cancer is to the west of Gemini along the ecliptic and Perseus looks to be north of Taurus and East of Auriga in charts?
I always believed that Orion and Taurus are rivals. Facing each other in battle when Orion sits upright. Taurus stands between Pleiades (The Seven Sisters) and Orion, protecting them because Orion desires and pursues them. Also protecting them are Pleione and Atlus, Pleiades's parents. If I'm not mistaken, I'm quite sure Pleione and Atlus sits to the lower left of Pleiades, just above Taurus.
Yes, I have heard they are rivals as well. As I was researching for this video, I found there are so many stories, and they vary depending on the culture and origin. Thanks for sharing the story you are familiar with.
You talk about a worksheet in the end. Was this done for a class? My son just watched your video and asked if we could do the worksheet not sure if that's even possible but thought I'd ask.
Aloha. I put two links in the description of the video for all to access the notes I refer to in this video. You can print a PDF for note-taking, or access the Google Doc to take digital notes (just go to file, and make a copy for your own version). I hope this helps!
First of all, such a great video! Loved! I just subscred at your channel and I´m looking forward to learn how to identify constellation and also what to see with a binocular. Thanks for the video! Short story, I end up here because in my second channel use to record Iridiuns, satelites and the ISS in the night sky!
Great job. Thanks a lot. I gained much information about 'V' shape in Taurus (or Hyades) which was seemed to be influenced greatly for ancient civilizations. Specially when originating of early alphabetical characters. Thanks again!
Hello, I usually educate myself while i ironing by watching videos & i love learning about Science, its fascinating. I happen to stumble across this video at the time 4.44pm which to me is a sign & message from spirit that im heading in the the right direction to discovering where i come from. Just a question as im new to all this but is the 7 sisters, what we would described as Heaven? I searched the 7 seven sisters due to another u tube channel i watch & it mentions that this is where we come from.
Hi Debbie, thanks for your message. The Seven Sisters star cluster, commonly known as Pleiades, is one that has been associated with heaven and deities from various cultures all throughout human history. I focus more on the scientific data of the stars rather than the mythology and astrology of them, so I couldn't really answer if this is where we come from. I feel the stars do connect us as humans, as our stories of the past have been passed down using the sky. My hope is to connect more people and encourage them to look at the stars and learn more about what they are seeing. Keep searching for your answers!
Can you please explain the difference between the variations of the appearance of Taurus constellation (3 or 4 lines - 4th towards Pleiades)? Which one is the most accurate?
The challenge with some constellations is that there can be lots of variation seen in the depiction of star patterns. I usually refer to the official constellation boundaries released by the International Astronomical Union. However, many cultures around the world seen different patterns. Sometimes I don’t always see the official pattern but something else. I recommend using maps as a guide, but just know that variation exists.
Awesome! More one great video.... One interesting thing I noticed is that Alnath belongs to two constellations at once.. Anyway thanks again for the videos.. I have another area of interest that is english language, because i am brazilian and i understood everything you said so If you will be interested in have it translated to portuguese, i can make it for you for free. Just say the word. Big hugs
Hi Leandro. I will look into having the videos translated. I am very honored that you would ask to do that. I believe TH-cam has a program set up with this, so I will look into that and get back to you. Mahalo!
TYSM for posting this video, and i have to thank you specially because im not a native speaker and i could understand everything with no problem, i have like 2 months learning the constelations and i love it, greetings from Oaxaca mexico. Can you recomend some binoculars to begginers? 10X is ok ?
Hi Cesar. Aloha from Hawaii! Thanks for your message, I'm glad you find this video helpful. I'll be posting more here as I create videos. In terms of binoculars, you could probably go a big higher in magnification. Mine are 15x70, and I have been really happy with them. I bought a tripod for it too, but it can be clumsy because the binoculars are so heavy. Here is the one I use: www.amazon.com/dp/B00008Y0VN/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2SEVR7MHJCU8Q&coliid=I22IVJOOJNGB0M&psc=1 Good luck!
Hi Cesar! It's been awhile since we've talked, but I wanted to let you know I am working on lots of new videos. Would you be interested in translating some of my videos?
Yes, it is possible. In Hawaii, I see Taurus in the very early evening during the spring. Since I am closer to the equator (19 degrees north latitude), I can see the Taurus well into the spring. Are you located in the United Kingdom as your comment suggests? At what time are you seeing Taurus? Hopefully you can see the Seven Sisters star cluster.
Also I wonder, when dark first comes in there Is a red star to the left of Taurus left horn star, if you hold a ruler up its about 9 inch to left of Taurus left horn star, but it moves from left to right a lot faster than constellations do, and it's not a planet because I have planet tracker app , Nd there are no e near at that time????
Aldebaran i(Al-DEB- bar-on) is the red star of Taurus. It is often referred to as the red eye of the bull. It is very close to the Pleiades right now (date 4/7/17). If you notice an object that moves more than the background stars, it is most likely a planet. The word 'planet' itself means 'wanderer' so if you notice a star that doesn't follow the consistent star patterns, it is likely a planet.
Yes, I have acknowledged this mistake in past comments and video description. Please visit the updated version of this video: bit.ly/LearntheSky-TaurusConstellation

VERY INFORMATIVE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT PROFESSOR! I'LL RETURN FOR A REFRESHER! ♌😎♌
You're a very good teacher - repeating the locations of the stars within this constellation and testing us on it. Thank you!

15:19 Isn't that Perseus? Because seems to me that Cancer is beside Gemini.
Yes! Thank you for correcting me on that. I can't believe I missed that! I made a correction bubble over the video. I appreciate your feedback. :)
constellation for kids
MrTweede, can you explain what you tried to say? I din't get it.
Cancer has no bright stars. if it cannot be seen owing to light pollution etc, one may use two bright stars Procyon and Pollux to locate it.
This is the absolute one of the greatest video i have the pleasure of watching, thank from the bottom of my heart.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned, I'll be releasing more videos soon.

15:27 i think youre wrong. Cancer is beside Gemini, the zodiac next to taurus is Aries..
Yes, you are correct. The one circled in purple is Perseus, not Cancer.

I was just interested in tracking down the crab nebula
You've given me an idea to make more videos in the future just on celestial objects.
I can see Taurus now in April, is this normal. Uk
