    You did such a nice job, in just about every aspect of your presentation. Thank you very much.
    Of course, Orion and Taurus are probably the easiest of the winter constellations to identify here in the Northern Hemisphere, but light pollution makes it more difficult to spot the Hyades with each passing decade.
    You provide us all a service in this area. With more people taking an interest in the night sky, our communities have become a little more sensitive to eliminating the sources of light pollution. (I would love to get rid of those bright LED signs that have popped up everywhere.)
    I enjoyed your mythology section, especially. There's an amazing underground temple in Southern Egypt known as the Serapeum, where Apis bulls are said to be buried. No one has every found any sign of bull remains down there. Only perfectly carved stone boxes said to be their sarcophagi. The mystery lies in how these 22 stone boxes, made if granite and weighing about 70 tons each, got down there.
    Keep looking up. I remember the fellow who signed off the San Jose public tv station every night with those very words.

Nice and da rk most of the time .lol. Praying for clear sky's. For readers who don't have a telescope I highly suggest useing a pair of binoculars and a compass. It is truly amazing how much you can find and with them.Thanks for the videos . Clear sky's to y'all. From the Bayou State.🤩

    Knowing how the mythologies creep through time and cultures, including the adaptation and influence into adjacent cultural groups, the story of Gilgamesh fighting the bull makes so much sense in regards to their locations in the sky. I've been curious as to why Orion isn't so closely associated with such a large animal (correct me if I'm wrong, please).

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have read before that Taurus is connected the Epic of Gilgamesh. I feel like the more I research mythologies, many go back to ancient Mesopotamia. The stars listed in the Babylonian Star Catalogs were definitely the precursors to the zodiacal constellations. I feel there are always new stories to uncover!

    Mithraism can also be mentioned as an important ancient cult in Europe and Middle East which survives today only in the minor form of tauromachy. But Taurus' importance throughout Human history especially derives from the Pleiades being a spot of 'friendly' extraterrestrial life.

    Have you ever noticed that the pleiades is the post on the Golden gate ecliptic and it's located in the center of the Star of David. In the Book of Job God names the post on the Golden gate. It's the Gate to Heaven and the code to open the gate is 444

      Nothing is really stationary in our universe. Everything is always moving since our universe is expanding. From our viewpoint on Earth, the Sun appears to move in the sky. It's position throughout the year has been recorded in many civilizations throughout human history.

      Well, technically everything in the universe is moving and our universe is expanding (Hubble's Law). From our perspective, it is sun that appears to move in our sky. The path of the sun in our sky is called the ecliptic, and humans have been recording the movement of the sun and stars for thousands of years.
