    When you do a compare and contrast do you like this, the star constellations of the Four Seasons.
    1) Leo- Star Constellation for Spring
    2) Draco- Star Constellation for Summer
    3) Pegasus- Star Constellation for Fall
    4) Orion- Star Constellation for Winter

      The advantage of living in equatorial regions is that we see the constellations all year round, you just have to know which direction to look.

    BRAVO!!! I just started trying to locate Draco this past weekend. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly faint he is. I was able to see some of the stars in the tail. I will take you up on the recommendation to look for the head. Im happy to see I wasnt off in my telescope positioning, just a victim of terrible night skies. Hopefully when I go to Arizona over Labor Day weekend I can find him better then, given the much darker skies. Very well done!! You have a new fan!!!

      Draco is one that took me time to get comfortable finding. It is pretty faint constellation. But knowing where it is in relation to the Dippers is what helps me find it. Good luck stargazing and keep looking up!

    I would love to hear your thoughts on how these names play in our movies...so many are in harry potter..wondering if it gives new meaning when you watch movies to us that had no clue to the history of these stars. Bellatrix, sirius (who is a dog), draco, crux. Also a question, would the horsehead nebula be considered dark horse? Also it seems adam and eve story with satan on the tree would fit right in with these.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! 👋 I have lots of thoughts about how names in astronomy appear in movies and other forms of pop culture. I especially love the Harry Potter books, and I love how J.K. Rowling uses names in astronomy for some characters. It makes sense that Sirius is a dog animagus. Sirius is the brightest star in the constellation in Canis Major, which is the Great Dog constellation. The constellation Draco is represented as a dragon, but has also been described as a serpent as well. This highlights Draco’s connection to Slytherin House. The star pattern of Draco certainly snakes it way through the sky. The name Bellatrix is Latin means ‘female warrior’, which totally matches that character’s personality.

    • @learnthesky
      @learnthesky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Horsehead Nebula nebula is classified as a dark nebula, also known as an absorption nebula. It is a thick cloud of gas and dust, and it absorbs light, giving it a dark appearance. See this video for more explanation on types of nebula: th-cam.com/video/_cI20mvIV0Q/w-d-xo.html

      @learnthesky  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      And to answer your final question, I haven’t thought about the connection of Adam and Eve to Draco before, but it does make sense. In one of the Greek myths of Draco, the dragon protects the golden apples of Hesperides. The story is different, but presence of apples would be the common thread. The more I research the mythologies of the stars, the more I learn that there is so much variation between them all, but there are similarities between them as well. It truly is fascinating! Great questions! I love this kind of dialogue.

    Yeah, I noticed that there were 3 pairs of stars that stood out for me, looking up from Calgary, a big city with lots of light pollution. I could follow the 2 stars at the outer edge of the Big Dipper to find Polaris and I noticed the edge of the Dipper nearest its handle seemed to point to a pair of stars at about 10 to 4 o'clock re the Big Dipper below and these were the outer edge of the Little Dipper, which themselves pointed to 2 stars further away from the Big Dipper, and it turns out part of the body of Draco. There were 2 other stars in a line from the Little Dipper 2 and the 2 body Draco stars and I wondered if they might be part of a triangle, and they turned out to be 3 of the 4 stars of Draco's head. Not bad for Calgary, but the light of knowledge shows the way. Thank you, Learn the Sky Jeanine.

    been a long active StarSystem in deepspace for many many thousands of years in space history....
