      Watch the video again. I believe I explain it why you have to disconnect it

  • @Boja23
    @Boja23 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another option is to just pop off the parking brake motor (2 hex bolts), and then stick a hex in the caliper and turn it until caliper can be fully compressed. Very easy, and no popping in out of car, setting and unsetting brake, disconnecting and reconnecting...just a manual job. I'll add, the caliper turn has 0 resistance, so you just pop in a hex that will grab gears and spin it, you could do with your fingernail, if it fit.

    The shim backing plate from the original is not necessary since the new pads already comes pre install and the brackets that hold the pads need to be clean and new. Those pads are going to be stuck and would not brake even on both sides.

    Question, can I leave the car in “neutral” then change the pads? This way I don’t worry disengaging then reengaging electronic parking brake.

    • @autopurlieu
      @autopurlieu  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You won’t, the car must be somehow in service mode.
      When you started to do the brake pads, they are already disengaged . Then, you must push the calipers all the way in so the new pads will fit into the rotors.
      And you won’t be able to disengaged it fully if your are in neutral

    Sorry but this was amateur hour. Look no further than his messy shop. Hard pass.
    First, "Fast and Easy" and Brakes should not be in the same sentence. This is a job that requires you take your time and not skip any steps which he certainly does. At the end, he does not even remind us to replace the cover on the master cylinder. He also did not have to say start at the far right side since he was not bleeding the brakes.
    I just did this job. It took a bit of doing but because I prepared it was not too bad. I did a far better job than he did.
    You need to apply 12v of power to the parking brake motor on both sides to FULLY turn the internal gear- THEN you can press the piston in. If you do it his way you risk damaging the mechanism and the piston will often fail to fully retract.
    You should thoroughly (that word again) clean the area where the new pads go back and forth.
    You should add new hardware for the pads including where they go into the bracket after you clean out that channel and warning tabs.
    Do NOT put grease on the piston like he did.
    ***REMOVE the slide pins, clean them well and lubricate with a silicone based lub- not petroleum based.***
    You do not have to play inside the car twice before doing the other side.
    You should use a steel wire wheel and drill to clean the rust off the outside of the rotor.
    Re-torque all bolts in a brake system to spec. This includes the lugs for the wheel as well.
