- These are the Top 10 Things Borderlands 4 needs to learn from Borderlands 3. If Borderlands 4 is going to be Gearbox's best game to date then they need to learn from Borderlands 3. Borderlands 3 did a lot of things right but it also did a lot of things wrong so if Borderlands 4 wants to be better than it's predecessor it needs to avoid Borderlands 3's mistakes and embrace the things it did well.

I would like and I can't stress this enough, BETTER STORAGE! Filter by a variety of options and include filtering annointments.
Also, make mission rewards viable enough and give them annoints! Some mission reward weapons were so cool yet they lacked annoints which made them underperform.
Something i would like to see is a load out system in bl4 so we dont have to respec and remember what points go where for x build
They need to optimize the engine. It's ridiculous how segmented this game is, yet it has more stuttering than most seamless open world games.
The reason I learn about this series was because handsome jack is one of the best main villain in any video game, the callipso in bl3 Aren't bad but not interesting either, I want melee weapons, pearls, a more unique playable sirens since amara I just a mix of a few other sirens

I really feel like the number one thing GBX needs to do is spend way, way more time in QA/play-testing and iteration during the development cycle. They need to stop trying to rush their product out the door and make sure it works, fully and properly, upon release.
Curious why this wasn't on the list as I believe it would have been a lot of my BL pals' number one request.
Save-quit farming needs to end. Let us reload enemies on a map.
Detach anointments from gear. Make them something you can equip to items like mods in Warframe.
If there are going to be as many RNG elements on class mods and artefacts, let us reroll/alter specific parts of them and make the currency for that feel fair for what you get in exchange.
Endgame at launch with a focus on raid bosses and takedowns. I would actually say make the story half the length of 3 and let the rest of the content be endgame stuff.
Let grenades have the variety of Wonderlands' spells and give us melee weapons.
I would actually suggest we don't increase the level cap at all after launch to avoid power creep but build other progression systems around it which complement skill trees. Or just allow items to level up in exchange for eridium.
Let all kinds of attacks crit like in Wonderlands and make status effects as important as crits so you can make a crit action skill build or a status effect grenade build and have them be equally viable.
Don't be afraid to add new characters or support the game for years to come. I got into Warframe recently and I'm staggered that they're still supporting the game with regular major, free updates over 11 years after launch. Learn from this kind of game, Gearbox, and you'll do well.

@@johnscott6072 I always say that you shouldn't play Borderlands for the story. It's lackluster at best. I say do a fresh slate. Kill Lilith and the majority of the OGs.
Then decide wtf is going on with the siren situation. Tannis being a siren was an eye roll moment. There's a lot of potential within the franchise to not only be a top tier looter shooter but one with a solid sci-fi background story.

I like using the juicy guardian rank bonuses like overkill/groundbreaker well but there is something about the whole thing that does feel a little like riding a bike with the training wheels on. It'd be interesting to see that figured out in a way which gives mechanics like those a home of their own without feeling like cheats have been enabled

@@mikeg381 yeah that part about them I don't find very interesting but they do feel factored in with how the game scales which is something I like. The ever-increasing stat bonuses I'm not sure about though
What I think should have in Borderlands 4... A better story (like better villains), Less bugs during the game, less light on the screen (there are moments when you don't see anything, just lights), more levels (72 is very little), better weapon drops (some weapons take too long to drop). I actually agree with almost everything that was said in the video, but as I play on a console, maybe there are some problems that don't exist on the PC (since the PC has mods), so for me it's just these little things that have to be fixed. Borderlands 3 for me is the best in the franchise, so if it continues on this path and improves a few things Borderlands 4 will be excellent.
Annointments shouldn’t be a staple of the game. There should be end game content after finishing the playthroughs. And, please give us better locations (unlike Eden 6 and promethea) such as Athena’s and some of the pandora locations. Some locations just feel boring, and some maps were just dedicated to vehicle driving.
Eden is sucks, but promethea is ok 4 me
I agree with Eden 6 but promethea is my second favorite map right under villa ultraviolet
Disagree with Arms Race. I still find it fascinating. I do wish it had more random parts to it. Like one of the few parts of Moxxy's Underdome I did like was the random buff and nerf per round for guns, grenades, shields and weapon types. I wish different types of enemies could appear on the map. (Right now, no guardians, no jabbers, no goliliths, no varkids, no ratches, etc.) If it had even 2 more types of random maps (a Neko map and an Athena map), it would have made it much more re-playable for everyone.

I wish there was an artifact to increase dedicated drops, or dedicated drops would increase with mayhem.
High mayhem builds are so dependent on God rolls for gear, it needs to be higher than 10% for dedicated drops. Like 30% with artifact buff.

Cool vid. I'm surprised you didn't mention the need to reduce the legandary drop rate and make legendaries more special, though. That's my number 1 ask for BL4.

I said it once and I’ll say it again, the world drop rate does need to be nerfed but the dedicated drop rates are fine at 15 percent. Getting a monarch after 10 killavolt kills beats the hell out of 200 boll kills for a fast ball that’s not even the right element but also level 78 when you’re level 80 and yes this has happened. I level 62 when I started farming for a fast ball for my real xp farm and when I finally got one I was level 75 and the fast ball I got was level 73 and corrosive when I wanted fire or explosive
I agree with most, but not with only needing 4 vault hunters. I think it should start at 4, then add 2 at strategic spots to keep players engaged. I got bored and would probably jump back in if they added a VH tomorrow

No I never want to see the bl2 legendary system again. If you can get 5 level ups out of boll before you ever see a fast ball the it’s not a perfect loot system

I’ll like them to add a gun manufacturer that makes melee weapons (each existing manufacturer should have a melee weapon variant) and a gun manufacturer that is pirate theme weapons that be cool, no?
Needs to have TTW/Dead Island progressive enemy leveling so that no enemy is ever at a lower level than the player.
Lower cost to change anointments.
The ability to have quest rewards appear as drops after completing the quests.
Shields effects (spike, nova etc) and artifact effects (spark plug etc) increase with mayhem level
Make vehicle damage level with mayhem etc.
I hope they add a way to remove the 1 hp clutching mechanism
1. Not necessarily a better story but more stakes would be nice.
2. More gun slots. 4 isn't enough imo.
3. I don't know if this will work but instead of four new Vault Hunters how about making existing characters playable Vault Hunters? Marcus, Tina, Tannis, Ava? Actually that would make a terrific cast of VH's to play if you ask me.
4. Keep the fourth skill tree and action elements
Im not gonna lie i hear lot of slander towards tiny tina'd but im having good time. Personally for borderlands 4 what i kinda want is not 4 vault hunters but 4 vault hunters classes and then full character customization. You can change how they look, choose a race, pick different voice 4 different personalities which change their dialogue etc, that is personally what i like. Then theres 4 different classes you choose to play as each having multiple skill trees but core mechanics staying same
Annointments are a recipe for balancing troubles and making it hard to get use out of weapons with bad annoints until you reroll them, they need to go bye bye, they aren’t even that interesting gameplay wise to begin with.
Also I think a Chaos Chamber-esq mode combined with the staples of Borderlands endgame would make the game a lot more replayable, maybe have Chaos Chambers drop pearls more than other activities to make them worthwhile or something, either way they are cool, and would be awesome when combined with Takedowns, Raid bosses, and Slaughtershafts
I hope they listen to community feedback on the story too. And I don't mean the circlejerk of hate, I mean actual reasoned feedback.
I was just bored last week and I was like what to play? So why not Borderlands. I love EVERY borderlands game including pre-sequel and tales of borderlands. It took me like hour to understand how my amara works and even after all those years I still enjoy this game very much! Which is amazing! I hope Borderlands 4 will be same!!!
Regarding what you said in video: level increase is bummer. I remember how I had all the "highend gear" for lvl 50, then after some time I came back just to see all my precious loot was useless and had to farm it again. Same thing happened with mayhem.
How I would change it for borderlands 4 just increase drop rate for lvl50, insane droprate I mean (or at least high chance to get good variants). So we all can have some sort of "trailer" to see what this game is going to be about. And leave it like that for some time - few months (with announcement when and what will happen - I love transparency). And when they make increase to final level (please make it in one single go - or 2step if Gearbox needs some space for testing) then lower drop rate to normal. So we all will know what we want to play and when and how to farm the gear.
And please no re-rolling of items! I dont trust any company not to use this opportunity for micro-transactions.
And regarding best loot from top bosses. Well yeah I agree with what you said. But on the other hand. You cant take down top boss with crappy weapons. And first few kills before he drops it the weapon ohh boy they will be a lot of pain.
Imho there should be kinda "path" to best gear. Think of it like quest. There is best shock weapon and for you to get it you would need to beat corrosive boss. And to get best corrosive weapon you would need to kill fire boss. So if you struggle with corrosive dmg and your fire dmg is good, then you go for that fire boss to get weapon for corrosive which will help you get other elements. Ofc every character is strong against something else so we all would have path to get there.
Today I went for Hag of Fervor on true difficulty and everything was easy until finall boss. I had no problem to stay alive and to do consistent dmg, problem was I run out of ammo for all my weapons and he was still alive (and I dont wanna use infinity for hour to kill him). It was on mayhem 10 with specific modifiers I like. Dont make Borderlands 4 best weapons drops from bosses like that. BTW I thought my gear was above this level, because true vault on Maliwan takedown is easy and doable. Maybe I need to respect to boss killer build. Dunno, but I was surprised.

healthy drop rates for legendaries would be awesome like in bl2. a legendary should be special not flying around everywhere honestly at some point you stop bothering about legendaries once they become as frequent as whites

For a while, legendaries dropped way too often in this game, which definitely ruined the surprise and thrill of getting them. On the other hand, not having dedicated drops and not being able to farm for the specific legendary/parts you’re look for is frustrating as well. It was either not enough or too many in this game. And also, please bring Pearls back. There was something so fun about farming Tubbies and then earning some of the rarest and most elite weapons in the game. I remember when i finally got the Bekkah is BL2. It was such an awesome experience after farming for it for weeks…maybe months.
It seems to be meta these days legendaries are just common drops in loot-based games.
God only knows why anyone would feel special and rare when legendaries are more common than pebbles on side walk.
I think to have higher drop rate for high end gear at some point can be good.
Imagine game in 3phases:
1) game realease with normal drop rate and max lvl 50.
2) Then increase max lvl to 60 and make insane drop rate for few months.
3) Then push max lvl to final value and drop rate to normal.
I am not dedicated farmer. I barely have only one item with "max damage" and annointed and element there is. I just google some builds, watch tons of youtube videos about guns. Then I decide (based on watching instead of own experiences during gaming) "yeah I want this weapon" and I go to farm it. Stage 2 for me (I doubt I am the only one who plays like this) will be me playing game and testing guns rather than watching youtube. And in phase 3 I would have experiences with guns so I would know what I wanna play with.
@ phase2: if drop rate will be high enough so nobody would have the need to farm weeks to get perfect variant of 1 item and time period wouldnt be "too long to kill the game" we all would have time to test some builds/guns. I dont see any negative aspect of it. All those weapons from this period will be useless after "testing period" so the search for those weapons wouldnt be corrupted. And if phase 1-2 will get like "half a story" and stage 3 will get epic story then it would be fine.
At least thats how I see it.
I won’t miss pearls if they’re gone for good. Most of them were better as trophies than actual weapons I don’t know about you but I farm for weapons not trophies
@@nathanhendrickson790 Yeah, many of them were trophies but there were quite a few that were pretty amazing too, i.e. Bekkah, Butcher, Sawbar, Tonguska, etc. These were the ones I farmed for because I too farm for weapons, cool guy!
@@bruno3778 if you want to make a top teir rarity all guns in that rarity need to at minimum be usable. Why do you think destiny 2 exotics are more popular?
I liked the Tiny Tina's Wonderlands character and skill tree system, 7 classes to choose from, with multiclassing comes to 42 unique class combos, 49 if you include no multiclass.
Now image that with 15-20 skill trees to choose from, and being able to pick 3, each with their own action skills, abilities, and synergies.
Have a character with a vanish ability suddenly be right in front of you with a giant axe, or hammer, or sword, or buzz axe ready to turn you into no longer their problem.
Your chances of getting killed by a Siren who is dual wielding shotguns is low, but never zero.
Want to sacrifice your use of grenades for a second action skill? Sure, but what about inversing it? You can't use an action skill, but you can equip 2 grenade mods for even more explosions.
Play a summoner by using 3 classes with companions, like a jabber, maliwan wardogs, and drones flying all around.
The shortest, smallest person you have ever seen just turned a godliath into a red mist with a single melee attack.
Get yourself a servant who zips around the battlefield, debuffing enemies while you pick them off.
Play a support character, buffing and healing allies... Who just so happens to have a mech.
The possibilities are endless!

weapon attachments, mod systems like warframe, more higher than legendary weapon rarities, contract killings in certain missions kind of like hitman 2 had but with exclusive rewards, I have almost an endless list of ideas, i know it's hard to balance what made the games of old good and what makes the game's of tomorrow so enticing but nailing that would be metal as fuck, i would like to see more breathtaking places on Pandora and the other worlds, we only get a small taste of them including Pandora which had an insane amount of environments that I'd like to see more of with the new insane vibrancy we have in bdl3, stories are all fun and good but of course the devs may not be able to write it forever so thinking on how to improve replayability without sacrificing certain aspects is dope imo

Make world drops as rare as their bl2 counterparts but keep the dedicated drops as they are

First of all it need to be online service like other ARPG games nowdays. Look how insanely good designed BL3 was in terms of itemization it's comperable to Diablo 2 and other similar games based on itemization and grinding to it's limits. Worst thing that happened to BL3 was lacking of better delivery of acquiring better gear in farming loop. Lack of crafting! It should take place of possibilty of save EDITING and save sharing! If BL3 had trading system + some live service it would be more satisfying in long term.
BL4 will be great if Gearbox gives us a BL2/Wonderlands story, especially since Handsome Jack will likely be coming back. So midway through have him screw us over and partner with or take out the new antagonist. Also bring back Maya if they're bringing back Jack. Then give is BL3's gameplay and loot system. Everyone whines that legendaries rain down too much, but that's what makes normal so much fun. Any weapon can shine in normal mode so you can use guns others don't even think about and that adds to build diversity. The absolute 1 thing BL4 needs is cheaper re-rolls or ditch that and add unique anoint drops similar to having character cosmetic drops and once you have the anoint you want to use for your build you can pay eridium to apply it to all your weapons instead of RNG re-rolling.

@@nicolovoci7265 It's gonna happen. Especially since they made New Tales canon. I mean it be great if they don't bring back Jack and instead just let Will Arnett voice another bad guy. Just feels like since the ending of New Tales we'll be seeing Jack return.

correct me if im wrong but it wss shown within the first few months of the games cycle the vermivorous was supposed to be part of the base game and was cut to be shoved in the season 2 pass 🙄 they got so greedy as a company and lost all perspective on what fans want Im not buying bl4 unless its proved to be good like imma wait a year beforeI even think of purchasing anything from gearbox , the biggest disappointment of 2020 was this game and how they handled it quickly killing of any hope for the franchise the only reason it did as good as it did sales wise is because it was riding on the good faith of its community that they then shot in the back with a jacobs pistol bc you know if it took more than one shot they abandoned bl2 after destroying endgame on there to "support bl3" what a joke this company became

They didn't seem to take 5 years worth of fan feedback into consideration from The Pre-Sequel's shortcomings and repeated a few of them in BL3.

Well imo bl3 is pretty broken balance-wisely. I mean builds, there is no much build diversity, lets take Zane, you pretty much always should play around cannon and kill skills, otherwise your build will not be much efficient. Gear-wisely is like about 50% out of all gear is simply does not work or just lacking, almost all of purple guns is entirely useless, many artifacts are lacking, many shields are straight overshadowed. And anointments. Oh god that was a mistake. Like why would you ever pick up 9% fire rate anointment for Zane again if there is like 100% frost damage, or just 100% universal damage. Nah, this is not working. If GB wanted to leave anointments be, it should be more utility-based rather than just straight defined. You see, I played Roboquest recently and there is pretty similar system to anointments, for a small fortune you can endow your weapon with something like +25% fire rate, +25% reload speed or +10% chance to deal auto-crit, something like that, not just blank +100/200/300% to damage done
it is being rushed out the door. it is gonna suck balls. and it will still cost almost 200 bucks. after they delay the release of content to hit up morons for more money.

anointments better not make a return and if they do they need to be changed. The legendries in BL3 all felt awful. None of them really ever felt special to get.
Season Pass is viable, yes, but when it's done with content like the DLCs from BL3, and not the disappointment that's the WL season pass.
Anointments are okay but BL3 had too many. Get rid of character specific anointments. Also, some of the anointments were useless.

Ok first off drama queen calm it down. Second who made you buy the 200 dollar version? For the base game season pass 1 and 2 at release price I only paid like 95 dollars. If you’re spending 200 bucks on video games especially this you either have too much money or you don’t know how to manage it and judging by how dramatic you’re being about it I’m going with the latter and saying you’re balls to the walls crap at financing

Nah, at this point there's no doubt that Borderlands 2 was abomination. They didnt made one good BL product before and after the second part. We need to accept, that it was lucky one shot. There's no other explanation now. They have good, open, and helpful fanbase, and yet they ignore everything people say, and do what they see as "fit" for the series. I don't really know how BL2 was so successfull and good, with company that is so arogant to listen advices of its fanbase.

They aren't going to learn shit, gearbox is an American AAA game company they're going to double if not triple down on all the shit decisions they made with Borderlands 3 and even make some new shit decisions.
The best thing Gearbox has developed or published in the last 10 years in Remnant 2.
To make a successful Borderlands 4 game, Gearbox needs to do the following:
Fire your writers.
Reestablish a connection with the playerbase you've burned with your past 2 Borderlands entries.
Apologize to the community that you've shit on.
Accept the fact that the upcoming movies IS going to flop from a bloated budget, no consumer interest, and piss poor casting.
Accept the fact that piss poor management from Pitchford has driven this company into the ground and is the reason Gearbox was sold for pennies on the dollar.
I expect none of these changes to happen and gleefully sit in excitement to watch Gearbox to be absorbed and dissolved.
