@@Nbdy18 no, it dosent hurt anything. It’s just that the variance from cpus, even if the same model. Can cause some to not really be able to undervolt at all, while others can easily do it.
@@daponagegoogenburg807 it’s worth noting that over time undervolts can go bad (my i7-7700HQ used to do -120mV all day every day, now -105mV is what I need for stability). There’s a real art form to dialing it in correctly

It's faster than my desktop 3080Ti and uses at least half the power consumption. I can also throw the 3080Ti into an eGPU Razer box and almost double my render speeds 🏎 I am having some issues with the trackpad though. Has anyone experienced slow-ish movement and the left click just not registering occasionally? I turned sensitivity down to Low in the Synapse settings to protect against palm touches. Even when it was set to High before, I was still having issues with left click.
@Jarrod This problem with Synapse software is related to latest Windows update. There's an instruction on Razer site how to fix it - worked fine for me, got no problems anymore. Something related to Windows settings with hybernation.
Undervolt definitely helps this small form factor machine. Just set -100mv in the XTU, then its idle temperature will instantly drop to 40-50 Celsius. The R23 score for my 4080 unit after undervolt is 2010/30050.
@@Hunter_Bidens_Crackpipe_ Indeed. But IMO there aren't many people choosing Razor laptops mainly for their performance. For the hardware enthusiasts, it's better to buy MSI, Lenovo, or Rog products. By the way, please don't forget how badly the last generation Blade 15 throttles. I would say the Blade 16/18 are still not perfect, but they are improved in the right direction.
I had a similar screen retention problem with two Legion 7 QHD laptops. Although, no one offered a fix there, I just have to live with it. But knowing Razer's quality and software support this here is quite concerning, especially if paying a premium price. Hopefully the issue won't come back after the fix...
I remember when I got my Razer 15 Advanced laptop in 2019 that I had enough problems with Synapse that I just disabled it completely. You can tell that Jarrod wanted to be WAY ruder about it but decided it just wasn't worth the fallout...
I just bought my razer blade 16 with 4090 last week, and I felt something weird with the screen. It is like blinking! Also, when I scroll down, I feel the screen is getting darker so sometime I cant read, I increase the brightness, but feel something is getting black while im browsing using chroom. Glad that you mentioned the issue in the video. BTW, your video is perfect, and I haven't seen a review like this before about razer blade 16 2023. It is complete review. You deserve more than like and sub.
Please also include whenever the laptop is completely silent on light workloads like chrome and Spreadsheets or there is noticeable fan noise for all laptops. In general, suitability for meetings and classrooms.
@@PuneetDubey_T2 I'm in the exact same situation, was hoping to get a decent g14 with this generation, lets see :) I need a dead silent pc for work conferences... I'm also looking for a slim, light and powerful laptop. Only one i found is the g14
There is no QA issue regarding the screen…they knew very well it has the issue and released it as its really not a biggie…they released the laptops to be part of the big game from the beginning which was much more important for Razer than a SW issue which gets fixed in a patch…
I really wish we could get a number pad on these laptops, I use it a lot when I'm not gaming so it's a deal breaker for me, which sucks because I think these are so cool.
While I can admit that the screen issues were present in my Blade 18, I don't think it was exactly Razer's fault. It's a known issue that was fixed by an intel driver update. That should of been mentioned in the video.
I didn't believe the rumor that both Razer Synapse and Central are the worst software possible on planet Earth. Now that I've got the Razer 18 2023 myself, it aint no more a rumor but a fact. I don't really think I'm getting another Razer
Thank you for your informative reviews. I use them to choose my laptops. While the computers I have bought have always been satisfactory in all performance aspects, I would love to have more information about the low skill repairability of the laptop. I'm fine fixing my own computer's simple problems as long as I don't have to do any soldering or removing the heat sink. I often can't tell whether I can fix the things that most often go wrong before buying. Since you open up the laptops in your videos, but don't do a full tear down, I think it would be nice if you included whether the external ports are directly soldered of the motherboard or not, especially the power connector. I've seen laptops with the ports connected to daughterboards, which is a major selling point for me, but I can never find any information on. I seem to have a tendency to be a bit hard on my ports, and it can't always easily be seen whether they are connected or not in your videos. If you like this idea but are feeling a bit more ambitious, you could also comment on the ease of replacing the keyboard, as that is the part of my computer that usually breaks first in my experience. I would love to know how deep I would need to go to replace the keyboard (for example, no interaction with the motherboard, removing the motherboard, removing the heatsink, dealing with rivets, etc.). Of course, I'm not suggesting a step-by-step teardown, but a hint as to how difficult it appears would be nice.
It was running very well till have a CPU issue. When im gaming CPU temperature is going almost 100 C° and cpu speed drops to 2.2 Ghz. I contacted support and explained that issue, they told me upgrade BIOS, restart to factory settings and i did everything but issue is not resolved. They told me to send them but due to my location it is out of guarantee. They told me to send my device to different country so i will try to clean my fans after getting right equipment, im waiting for cargo, if issue will persist i will send it to support. My work computer is an Apple Silicon MacBook pro 16 but my personal computer is a Razer blade 15 with the RTX 3080ti. The blade is thinner than the Mac but the I/O means that it can legitimately serve as a desktop when needed because you don't need adaptors to connect your peripherals to it. This is despite the blade being thinner than the Mac. The version I have also demolishes the Mac in terms of raw performance without thermal throttling. It gets hot but it never has to reduce the performance because of the heat.
@Tom Pike *"The version I have also demolishes the Mac in terms of raw performance without thermal throttling."* Yeah sure. Unplug that Razor Blade and see if it beats your Mac on battery. It won't. Apple runs full performance on battery and still kicks every laptop's rear in raw performance while maintaining 3x the battery. No fan noise and low heat. And just how have you tested your Razer to prove that raw performance is better than your Apple Silicon MacBook Pro 16? Did you use Adobe software? LOL. Did you do the exact same tests on software that is optimized for both Windows and MacOS? There's no way in raw performance using the same non-Adobe software that your Razer would beat the 16" MBP. Every reviewer has not found a laptop on the market that beats the MBP16 M1 in the same class. Even the graphics on the M1 16" MBP rival the RTX 3080. You're not being honest.
Thanks for the review! Very interesting results. I have got a Blade 16 RTX 4080 variant I’ll be testing, so it’ll be interesting to compare results against these benchmarks in the 4090. Certainly, these results are a bit lower than expected. Was it tested with max fan and highest performance settings for the games and timespy? Results seemed low. I also was getting 31.5k in Cinebench R23 on my Blade 18 after full undervolting with Intel XTU, which is a lot more than what you’re getting without a more optimized undervolt.
Yes, boost + high performance mode with max fan for all tests unless specified otherwise (eg temp tests at all levels). The 4090 could dip down to 130W, and yeah the 4080 in the Blade 18 could beat it in some cases. As for Cinebench, I didn't spend any time at all tuning it and literally picked -0.05v at random. Not sure if you just do one Cinebench run or not, as that would score better than our 3x 10 minute averages.
Jarrod we see that AMD Dragon Range is coming in with some major games. The 7945HX is the same performance as a 7950X running in the 105W eco-mode and proving even stronger than i9-13980HX which 'averages' 157W , often exceed 170W. But AMD's crux is the idle power draw due to chiplet architecture and IO die sucking power. How do you think Dragon Range battery life will turn out to be??
Hello Jarrod. Thank you so much for the review. Please I will appreciate if you can compare the M16 (2023) with the Blade16. I am torn between these devices because they are the thinnest right now that packs a punch.
In speak of "dock" (USB hub, dock, port repeater, whatever the name): Can you make a guide video (what to look out etc.) and with some recommendations? Most product pages I see for these just show amount of ports, but not their bandwidth, so you never know if you are getting HDMI 1.4 that won't even work together with random USB ports at the same time.
That usually does not matter and what he said was just a sponser ad and it does not really say much about the quality. But for fast docks i would use thunderbolt ones. Anker, Lenovo and microsoft make really good docks. Or if you plan to be stationary with the dock you can use the razer X gpu enclosure but instead of a gpu insert a thunderbolt usb-c card
@@sggsquadpresents I know it's just "sponsor" segment (or rather an advertisement), but it makes sense for laptop reviewer to actually also do content about related accessories. I am interested in Zephyrus G14 2022, but since it has low amount of ports and lacks network one - I'd need to buy some kind of accessory to extend that.
What the hell all these issues and even weird performance loss vs the much cheaper razer blade 4080 how did all of these happened ? like come on the price bump was significant i dont expect an issue when i have to pay for a 4000$++ laptop.
Wow, the 4080 being faster in some to many cases due to the higher allowable wattage is an eye opener. The 4090 is hundreds of dollars more expensive, and people who don't watch these videos might not realize this issue. Don't get me wrong, the performance with the 4090 in this machine is awesome, but the performance loss as compared to other 4090 laptops makes this - at its price - not the best option IMO.
I have a 2022 Razer blade 14 and I’ve had the EXACT same issue TWICE with synapse not launching after a week or so. I ended up doing a full clean windows install and have had no issues in months
I have seen so much video covering even finest details about gaming laptops so thumbs up to that 👏 ,could you cover testing different thermal pastes on laptops, some may ask why not just use the highly rated PC thermal pastes like krynaut grizzly or mx4 but trust me PC and laptops are not the same when it comes to cooling and applying even best thermal pastes used in pc on laptops can give disastrous results due it suffering from silicone bleed and pumb out resulted from laptops low pressured heatsinks, would be great if you cover all that, thank you so much 😍
Have blade stealth. Other than it's amazing build quality, everything else sucks. The hardware has had fan failures, battery bloats and parts of screen just dying. On the other hand , my MSI ge62vr 6rf that I got a year before that is still perfect. It had a fan failure once but that's about it. Blade seems to be the company that cares more about it's outward looks and optics than actually delivering a long lasting good product. Buy it for vanity I suppose. Over inflated prices too.
Excited for the higher performance & efficiency the 7945HX brings compared to 13980HX, but I have a feeling that battery life will be trash. Apparently desktop zen 4 processors have very high idle power(40-50w) and it seems like the main culprit would be the IO die
Cant wait for this man to compare new 13th gen processors with themselves and also with 12th gen , a video like 4 way comparison between i7 12th g , i7 13th gen, i9 12th gen,i9 13th gen
Hello, Jarrod. Been watching your videos as they are very good however been struggling with deciding a laptop for architecture purposes in the lines of gaming laptops. Would it be possible to recommend 2 or 3 in the mid-range gap that you'd deem as fitting for the role? Thank you in advance and keep the great videos.
It's difficult for me to do that as it's not an area I personally have any experience in. I suppose ultimately the same things that apply to gaming might apply there, in terms of models with more CPU+GPU performance. Also hard to suggest anything from 2023 yet when we've only been able to test about 4 models so far
Hi, thank you for this amazing showcase of this laptop! I was looking forward to buying the Razer Blade 14, but I noticed, they have just upgraded the old 15 and 17 inches, so now, they are all 16:10. Any ideas when the 14 inch version is getting an update?
I've told them about the fan speed dial being backwards, that it should be enabled for custom mode, at least 10 times, and I have received robotic responses with zero understanding every time LOL. It's so weird!
As someone who has tried both platforms, any comments on the 16 vs 18? Struggling with this one as portability isn’t a major concern but more of a nice to have.

I'm glad you were able to find a fix. It's unfortunate that Razer make these things so difficult to find.

Welcome!
Just a heads up, Ugreen is a shady company when it comes to following the specs of technology standards i.e. USB-C PD etc.
Undervolt definitely helps this small form factor machine. Just set -100mv in the XTU, then its idle temperature will instantly drop to 40-50 Celsius. The R23 score for my 4080 unit after undervolt is 2010/30050.
Not great compared to other laptops

There is no QA issue regarding the screen…they knew very well it has the issue and released it as its really not a biggie…they released the laptops to be part of the big game from the beginning which was much more important for Razer than a SW issue which gets fixed in a patch…
Always my go to guy when it comes to them laptops
I really wish we could get a number pad on these laptops, I use it a lot when I'm not gaming so it's a deal breaker for me, which sucks because I think these are so cool.
While I can admit that the screen issues were present in my Blade 18, I don't think it was exactly Razer's fault. It's a known issue that was fixed by an intel driver update. That should of been mentioned in the video.
Finally Razer's price to performance ratio matches. And its perfect
I bought one of this beast and it is one of the best thing i ever done to myself.
Now you've had it a few months how is it running? I really want to get one but I feel like im gambling with my money because razer have such a bad rep
Consequently Razer products are awesome but i recky only Razer stuff i didn"t get any problem is my mouse unfortunately :D@@Lo-KeyMuzik
@Tom Pike *"The version I have also demolishes the Mac in terms of raw performance without thermal throttling."*
Yeah sure.
My man jarrods knows his stuff.
Thanks for another unbiased and informative review👌
@@JarrodsTechi guess you should think to the fact that its screen is amasing(4k)and its storage is 6 terabytes
@gizmosliptech have you noticed your cpu thermal throttling alot ?
I totally agree with you Jarrod. The dual screen will be more worth it when you will not need to reboot.

I bought the Aorus 17H with the RTX 4080 today for $2,049 USD on sale. Sweet deal!
Great review as always! Looks like a hit or miss for Blade 16. Are you planning on reviewing the Asus Zephyrus M16 4090 Jarrod!
Yes! Well, the M16, not sure which GPU I'll get. Unfortunately, I haven't received one yet.
None as detailed as Jarrod, in the league of his own
I hope they get a version with the R9 7945hx
An AMD version would indeed be more interesting. Only worried that there won't again be any Thunderbolt.
I'm really excited for that one 😍
Excited for the higher performance & efficiency the 7945HX brings compared to 13980HX, but I have a feeling that battery life will be trash. Apparently desktop zen 4 processors have very high idle power(40-50w) and it seems like the main culprit would be the IO die
Cant wait for this man to compare new 13th gen processors with themselves and also with 12th gen , a video like 4 way comparison between i7 12th g , i7 13th gen, i9 12th gen,i9 13th gen
