Hi Leo...looking at the 2 replies you have here already shows you exactly how the Irish are with immigrants. Truthfully, most of us are fine with immigrants and how you settle here will depend on your own personality and resilience (it's difficult to uproot yourself and adapt to a very different culture). If these are positive, you should settle well. BUT...as you see, the second response also shows you that there are some very racist people in Ireland too. You may be subjected to some of this and must be prepared for it. It stems from a lack of understanding and from the fact that Ireland has only recently become a nation to receive immigrants. It is a relatively new phenomenon in our history. Go back 50 years or more and it was the Irish who were emigrating all around the world!!! Some Irish people are afraid of this change, are afraid of the changes it might bring to our culture etc in the future. Hostility often stems from fear and insecurity. If you understand this, it might help you deal with any hostility you might meet. Good luck with whatever decision you make :)

@@Everlycece Really. It's used very often. Like "ara it'll be grand", or "ara what are you on about". it sort of doesn't have a meaning and is just added in.
jrvthatsme "Aire" (pronounced Ara as you say or in some places Yerra) is a throw back to a word in the Irish language (Gaeilge or "Gaelic") meaning literally "care" or "attention" but figuratively it means "Look here" or "See". Sometimes people in Cork and Kerry might start a sentence with this as an emphasis. So instead of saying "It'll be grand" about a worry or fear, you say "Ara it'll be grand" meaning "Look! The monies! 😂 This was really interesting and I love the compare and contrast of the two. Construction workers make a lot of money in the states too.

Good discussion but a bit of cross talking/interruption
for some crazy reason you respect people like judges, politicians, cops, lawyers, Gov lazy people and grasses who have never work one day in their life and you have no consideration for the poor hard working Irish men that built the very place you live in....that's a funny coming from 2 black honeys who no doubt have felt the same as the poor Irish men felt
You are just showing this your ring

6:20 Ireland is slowly turning into what u said there if u go to Dublin for one day u will see so many Chinese,Americans and Lithuanians I have nothing against them and I’m not racist it’s just our culture is kinda getting taken over and I feel like something needs to happen fast or Ireland won’t be Ireland anymore i live in Tipperary which has no cities and is a very countryside kind of area but even here it is getting bad once again I’m not racist I just think it’s gotten a bit too far.
Lol you’re a racist !
Yes a serious racist!!! people simply come there to look for better opportunities, how the hell are they taking over your culture lol
You make me laugh😂😂😂😂😂
Omg I’m a fucking racist stfu can u not speak at about something without getting attacked how am I racist plz tell me mabye you need to look at the definition again
@p a I wonder are you Irish first of all I think food is great and we have loads of different options that just like saying if you lived in America and thousands of Japanese people came and took over your country you would be fine with that?
yes, true there are far more Chinese in UK, Italy and in Canada in Ireland.
