Just a note if that happens often, I noticed in your Nvidia control panel when the Elgato is set to the main source (instead of your 240hz monitor) the resolution is under the (Ultra HD, HD, SD) and is set to *1080p, 1920x1080 (native)*. You'll notice that entire section has (1080p, blah X blah) at the beginning of the resolution and is capped at 120hz no matter what resolution you choose. However when you scroll down you will notice the (PC) section with different resolutions including regular 1920*1080, with no 1080p at the beginning. You want to make sure you choose a resolution under this section because then it will only allow you to either choose 144hz, 240hz, and if you have it, I believe 360hz, or aka the highest refresh rate. Just something I noticed and have figured out messing with the resolutions allot in Nvidia control panels.
You’re right! I think this happens because of an issue with having multiple monitors reconnecting after a hard shutdown of the computer. When the monitors connect in a random order, they choose whatever settings are default to them, and it normally is one of the UHD HD categories instead of the PC category. I’ve had some monitors in the past where you need to change the resolutions to one listed under the PC heading to get the full refresh rate, but with this one I don’t seem to need that. Maybe it had something to do with the refresh rate being a multiple of 60 rather than a 144 or 165 hz display. Maybe I could do some testing and research to figure it out.

Both monitors do not need to be 240hz. The streaming pc monitor only monitors the signal of the recording software. Which with the 4k60 pro maxes out at 60 fps recording.
how do you have them wired them up ,what cables do you use, i keep getting colour distortion like its really contrasted any ideas. 240hz monitor is fine but obs image is all contrasted any help
HDMI 2.0 cables, sometimes I had issues so I went an bought different looking cables on AMZ that I knew would work every time so I could tell them apart from a standard black HDMI. If you’re having issues with contrast check the cables, then check your color settings in elgato software and the settings in the properties menus in OBS. Check the range from “limited” to “full” or the other way around. You can also check your graphics card menu for displaying 8 bit, 10 bit, 12bit signals that might mess with the look of the output, change this to 8bit for compatibility with the capture card.
I’m curious if my gaming pc is running a 1440p 240hz monitor and can you clone to elgato 4k60 pro mk2, can you change the edid in the software to 1080p so it stays 240hz on the main monitor but downscales the image to the stream pc?
You can't do it through windows or Nvidia control panel do to a limitation in windows cloning, I can do another video on a technique that can do this though using OBS as an intermediate.
@@bradslice ah so you can only maintain the 1440p 240hz gaming monitor with the obs projection trick to the elgato “screen”, interesting. I’ve been doing a lot of research on this
hi, i have amd. display port etc. - but all the games shows me 144hz monitor but i have a 165hz. i have a 4k60 pro mk2 elgato. how can i change the hz? in windows it shows me 165.
I think your issue may be that most games have preprogrammed refresh rates that they work at. The game might not have 165 hz as an option. you should be able to achieve 165 hz regardless of what the games settings say.
It takes a relatively long time for the game to appear in full screen mode using these settings. Sometimes I have also had to problem of the game not appearing at all. I’ve found that setting up pass-through instead of cloning displays has many advantages with some drawbacks when you first start your computer. I’ve been writing out the best way to tackle this video to explain it to people. I’m almost ready to make it I just need to find a way to reliably reproduce all the issues that I’ve faced so I can show how to fix them.
At this time I think I would still recommend the cloning displays method for anyone who doesn’t play in full screen mode in games, but that could change. Stay tuned for the upcoming video
This should also work the same with an avermedia card. Just disregard the elgato software steps. The windows based proccess for cloning works the same regardless.
ok so imma just say everything i can remember rn... alright so at first i did the extend way and fullscreen project to obs and it all worked i was getting bad screen tears tho and the hz wouldnt go to 240hz in NVCP but it would gfo to 144, i did this and on the 4k utility it says 1080120 or 1080144 and in NVCP it says 240hz so is it actually 240 or is it what the utility says and also on this method when im in a fullscreen game the elgato doesnt pick it up but if i go windowed fullscreen it shows the game (fortnite) but i dont see any screen tear, is there a way to get the eglato to pick up the game while on fullscreen? also i think i have more to talk about but cant remember now lol iu been trying to figure this out for like 5 days now
I would say check your cables to make sure they are both HDMI 2.0. I bought new cables especially for this just so I knew for sure that they would be compatible instead of messing with cables trying to figure out what was wrong. The software isn’t always clear on what’s going on, but if you’re not using the correct cables then nothing will work to begin with.
My monitor is set to 1080p 240hz, but when I go to Elgato it is greyed out and my video input in my 4k Utility only goes up to 1080p60. Is there a way for me to get my video input to 1080p240 in the 4k Utility?
In the top right of elgato 4k capture utility it should read "Source 1080p240 | Capture 1080p60" . That way the elgato is reading the 1080p240hz signal that cloned from your monitor, but the elgato is only capable of recording up to 60fps for any resolution so thats why the second half of the readout says "Capture 1080p60". To answer your question, your video input should be at 1080p240 if its cloned from your monitors 1080p240 output. There is no way i know of to record higher than 60fps on the elgato 4k60 Pro.
im using one pc to do my recording and whenever i follow the steps i only see the el gato as the primary.. granted i only have one monitor right now so i thought id see two bc you said that the other one should be cloned with the internal card. sorry if this doesnt make sense but literally ive been looking everywhere for answer and this is by far the most helpfull one lol thank again
It sounds like you are using the Elgato to pass through before going to the monitor. If I understand correctly you only have HDMI cable coming out of your GPU and into the Elgato, then another HDMI cable going from the Elgato's output port and into your monitor. If you want to clone your displays you will want to have two HDMI ports (or one displayport and one HDMI) come out of your graphics card. One HDMI needs to go to the input on the Elgato and one to your monitor. You should then see two monitors in Nvidia Control Panel. You will want to set your monitor as the main display and then follow the same steps in the video for cloning the displays. Hope this helps
