I should have you over on my channel for a chit chat about RPG's and cypher sometimes. I just had Monte Cook on last time, more cypher creators would be a good followup.
Your original cypher video where you did an unboxing got me looking into the cypher system. I introduced my group to the system with a superhero game using claimed the sky and they are loving it. Want to say thanks for the intro duction. Though, my wallet does not appreciate senee i want all the books.
Thanks for this quick overview. I always like to see how other players/GMs approach character creation. QotV: I have to go with Explorer as my go-to Type. It's so versatile, but can still make an effective tank, face, healer, or other archetype. My first PC was a Jovial Explorer who Helps His Friends--styled as an over-the-hill teacher who wanted to be adventurous during his golden years.
Been playing Numenera and Cypher for ... is it nearly a decade by now? I love how the whole process of character creation utterly befuddles powergamer folks. Not ruin the experience of creating and playing a power combo as much as defusing the biggest reason why people get started feeling a need. Next part is: power in what way? Instead, it becomes less about trying to squeeze the most oomph out of the character and aiming for what actually interests the player. And interest does not require being the best at something. I love how character creation really asks questions about what what sort of game the player seeks. Setting up the challenge to be overcome instead of somehow removing challenge. The Focus really tells the GM how you plan to play within the larger game. I still find more combinations I want to try one day.
Amazing video! Good indepth walkthrough of the character creation system... Part 2 is up next! QofV: Im an Adept, through and through! A Mystical sort...but I like to "Dance with Dark Matter"!
It would've been nice to show another options between Descriptor and Foci. Helix Brown turns out to be a full investigator but the Cypher System allows for much more variety. You can approach a single character concept in different ways. And you keep saying the character is smart because of the high Intellect but they could also be a charismatic character that usually finds their way with people but is not specially smart. Stats work in a way that the number alone doesn't mean anything until you look at your skills and special abilities.
QOTV: Adept most likely. My favorite/most effective niche is a support type (I don't play solo), so cleric, medic, 'commander', spotter, armorer...depending on the genre. Note that, if I've buffed you, I can and will claim at least partial credit for every kill you make, whether or not my buff actually helped, haha! And say 'thank you' if you want me to heal you again next time! :> You have made me more interested in cracking open the Cypher rulebook sitting on my shelf and taking another good look...
After years of playing fantasy troupes, I would love to play a Face. The Idea of being the front man and being the king of social interactions would be very interesting to play. Qedhup has a great channel, as well as the Cypher Unlimited crew for those who want to fall deep down the rabbit hole 😁. For those who love horror Stay Alive!, Old Gods of Appalachia, and We Are All Mad Here are chocked full of twisted fairytales and cthulhu-esque goodness, also the coming up Magnus Archives based on the podcast. I love this system, it is just crunchy enough w/o character sheets looking like Excel documents.
Professor Nagatoki is a time-travelling explorer who is searching for his long-lost friend, the Noodle Detective. If you are wondering where that came from, I'm getting old and misread one of the lines in the the vid, specifically "Finding & Noticing details/Detective" somehow registered as "Finding Noodle Detective."
I would do Explorer. It makes sense this would be a new game system that I am exploring. I like investigating. On another note. Are the ads on this platform getting longer? I hear several vloggers complaining about reduced income. If you guys get paid by us watching commercials then something is up. Why would anyone want to sit through 3min of a hoodie or gun belt commercial? 30 to 45 sec per ad should be sufficient. My Conspiracy mind thinks that certain channels get longer skipped ads over others getting short watched ads.
Great start, I look forward to part 2.

@@Qedhup I hope this comes together. So many good things going on in the Cypher System lately.
Great video!
Thank you.😊👊🏿

I really dig that concept. I would like to see that played out. 👍🏿
Brilliant. I'm about to start some new players on Cypher System and this is well-timed. Thanks.
Awesome sauce! 👍🏿😁
Awesome content. Thanks! I've been curious about this system and the Humble Bundle reminded me that I needed to look into it

This video is awesome! It’s exactly what I was looking for.

16:20 The Sleuth skill says "You are trained in Perception." Does that give any additional bonus?
Yep! It automatically makes a task one step easier, so a difficulty 6 task (DC 18) becomes a 5 (DC 15).
Oh nice! Thanks @@derekburge5294

Heh. The more I see of Cypher System, the more I see Alternity. 😅
I can see it.
What I liked about Alternity seems to carry forward into Cypher.
