You miss one key component in your summary. Annette sounds really good in recorded material and relatively poor in concert. Floor sounds relatively under-utilised and muted in recorded material but is mindblowingly good live. Tarja is somewhere in between the both, on both recorded and live performances. I have the first album with Floor (Endless forms most beautiful) and was disappointed in the general sound. But then in 2015 I attended the Wembley concert and was blown away by how much better the songs were played live. Floors voice just soared and I have never heard a better vocalist than her live. Somehow Floors voice is not used best on recorded albums. You need to see her live to appreciate her massive talent.
Great point. But you can’t really expect it from a supposed fan who: A) dislikes Imaginaerum (what the hell, it’s arguably their best album) B) can’t be bothered to look up the pronunciation of Tarja
I did mention it in the conclusion and more wanted to focus on the albums but yeah this is a good point, and I think that from a live sense Floor is the best person for the band at the moment
@@jonathanpike6614 I've tried with imaginaerum multiple times but I really don't get the love for it and find that it often just doesn't click with me, with way too much musical wankery and not enough proper songs at least for me, and was the album where I really started to have issues with this band until their newest which I saw to be a pretty big improvement
It’s hilarious, cuz you go into this and we fully agree, but I like Annette’s albums best and floors albums least. But live, there’s no comparison. I was fortunate enough to see Annette on the Dark Passion Play tour and she was not good. Then I got to see Floors 4th or 5th show with NW and the difference was immediately noticeable Even floors songs sound better live. You mentioned Elan and that is so much better live
Floor are in another level. She just not comparable to the 2 other singers of the band. To much skills. In fact Floor are one of the best female singer in the world any kind of genre of music. And yes live nobody beat her. I prefer Anette from Tarja because Anette are ok in studio. Tarja voice harras me but yes she are a better singer than Anette live.
For me I love Floor, solo and nightwish, she is so versatile, her voice so powerful, maybe is not on her mind being exploded like many people say, she has other personal proyects.
I know a bunch of fans don't enjoy the Endless Forms Most Beautiful and Human Nature as much. It's definitely more folky and whimsical. I still think those Albums show off Floor's voice a lot, just in a different way. The melodies she has to sing are incredibly difficult. They aren't powerhouse vocals most of the time but still very beautiful and complex. Take Shoemaker for instance. Very difficult song to sing. I know Tarja could sing the last part with flying colors, better than Floor probably but no way can she sing the first part of that song! Annette isn't coming close to singing that song at all. It just shows how awesome Floor is! Those albums really show off different sides of her voice but they are just less "metal" for some fans. I also love the last album Yesterwynd and enjoy Floor's voice a lot in it but technically speaking, it was easier for her than the last two albums to sing. I enjoy a few songs with Tarja but I'm not much for full opera so I do find her voice gets old for my ears. Floor has the perfect balance of not too operatic and not too poppy like Annette. I also think she has the largest range by far of the three vocalists too, maybe more than most singers alive! To top it off Floor has an incredible stage presence. I think she rivals Freddy Mercury in this way. Either way I enjoyed your video. You made some interesting points. Everyone has their favorite and I lean heavily to Floor in this case!
Sounds like Nightwish with Floor is too much for you to appreciate. Its usual that people who prefer easy listening (Anette) or medieval operatic hero metal(Tarja) who dont appreciate the finess Floor has brought to their music. Tarja and Anette are one trick ponies - marvelous tricks, but still just one. If anything Floor is the one who really unchained the band and Tuomas's songwriting. Neighter Tarja nor Anette could even touch the singing parts Tuomas has written for Floor. To some people Floors singing just sound too "easy" and understated, but thats only because she is literally head and shoulders (pun intented) above Tarja and Anette in versatility. She has also brought so much more nuances to the songs from Tarjas and Anettes eras, that I listen the older songs only through their live albums with Floor. Its a matter of taste, but musically I think its no contest. Also if you listen their records with Floor you might realize, that Floor is so powerful and intensive (dont mean loud) in her interpretation that there is no need to lift her on a pedestal like they did with Tarja and Anette. She blends perfectly as one of the instruments without fading under the music. Especially in the mix of the latest album Yesterwynde it might sound at first that she is too low in the mix, but then you realize it makes everything sound more grand and even mixed to same level with the band and orchestra her performance pierces through. Ps. I'm from Finland and listened NW since 90s, so one might think I'm biased towards Tarja. And probably I am, but still Floor blow both of them out of the water.
My guy, I get that the names may be hard to pronounce. But even I can say Tarja correctly. Especially if I were going to make a video analyzing the band and expect to be taken seriously
The pirate is struggling without the green-eyed queen, the Viking has joined her, and now they shine together. The opulent ship is sinking. Floor, save yourself.
Floor for sure the best due to her unbelievable versatility and charisma on stage. 2nd is Tarja for her power and unique voice. Annette is last but not to say she's bad, just rather typical style voice. Felt bad for the backlash she got when replacing Tarja.
I can kind of see where you're coming from, with the "on the album" disclaimer. Although at least in my opinion, Floor's live versions of Tarja's songs are improvements and the ones that wind up in my playlist, although I will admit the Tarja albums have most of the best songs.
I like all three, but Anette might be my favorite. I think Dark Passion Play being my first Nightwish album plus Sahara being the first song I heard of theirs may have something to do with it. I also really like how her voice meshes with Marco's and sounds with the orchestra, where the other two don't always sound great singing in unison with Marco (in my opinion) and are often overpowered by the orchestra. However, Floor is my favorite live singer while Tarja handles both studio and live versions equally well. My favorite album changes depending on my mood, so here are my usual top five: Wishmaster, Dark Passion Play, Oceanborn, Century Child, and Once. I'm a bit surprised you don't like Imaginaerum, as I've seen even Anette-haters list it as one of their favorites. But, to each their own. Looking at the comments, I'm embarrassed by the rudeness of some fellow Nightwish fans. You have my sympathies.
I think if you listen to the 3 singers throughout their music careers and not just with nighwish and I do get your video is all about them in that band, Floor is miles ahead by some distance as can be seen on many video's on u-tube...her ability to dip in and out of every type of musical styles and be very good at them all speaks volumes. Just watch her on Best Zangers to sing in various type of languages with such ease and different styles is special from metal to rock to pop to classical to folk she can cope no problem, and just to finish on she was born to perform live, her stage presence is awesome she has what all the greats had star quality...anyhoo a've said enough and it just my opinion which doesn't mean a lot....cheers mate.
I have to respectfully disagree! You lost me with (Floor) “she didn’t leave as much as a mark with her vocals as the other 2 singers” 👎🏾 PS: Floor and Tarja fanboy. I’m not going to choose! 😒 (luckily I don’t have 2 😁) PS2: I only listen to live performances.
To start with, I would like to say that I like all three Nightwish singers. As for Tarja, after she started studying opera singing in Germany, her voice was too operatic for Tuomas, so he wanted her to sing only in the lower ranges. At that time, the band was more focused on gothic ballads with a metal touch, especially on the last two albums with Tarja. After her departure, the fans expected a similar replacement and didn't want something completely different. However, from my point of view, the two albums with Anette brought something new, her voice is very beautiful, playful and the whole thing works well, it's good to listen to and I still enjoy it. And then there's Floor, who I think is a bit overrated. She sings a bit of a false note, but the fans are happy to forgive her. Honestly, those two albums are the absolute worst for me. I don't enjoy listening to her on the album, the music is repetitive. It's made for a different kind of fan than in the beginning. But Floor is very good on stage, which is her added value, the songs sound better live and of course she graduated from a rock academy, which is obvious. I definitely think that with Floor Nightwish could have done a completely different job. If you listen carefully and study how Tuomas works and how he expresses himself in interviews, he always needs a muse for his creation. In the beginning it was Tarja and her voice, after she left he was overcome with anger and sadness and he got the best out of Anette. With Floor I feel that his muse is his wife, as if he didn't hear her potential, the music is somehow put together, something new, something that worked here we'll put it there again, then this again. So in short, all three have their added value. The author of the songs is Tuomas. In my opinion, the band would have been best off with Anette, but unfortunately the fans only appreciated her after she left. There are songs that Floor doesn't sing as well, playfully and catchily as Anette.
I didn't know Nightwish at all until I went to a concert on the Imaginaerum tour. I was blown away, it was a fantastic concert. Imaginaerum is my favourite Nightwish album and Anette is also my favourite singer, I think they (well, Tuomas) made a big mistake in treating her so badly.
Ok, I'm biased. Due to first discovering Tarja through the O Come Emmanuel single and the Christmas album it came from, then later discovering Nightwish whilst researching Tarja's background I am firmly in the Tarja camp. I have got the Highest Hopes compilation and since it is pure Tarja era it epitomises to me the best of Nightwish full stop. Despite being in the Tarja camp I have investigated both Annette and Floor era Nightwish videos through TH-cam and can't get past the obvious fact that they are not Tarja. As the OP states they are probably the best singers for their respective materials, more so maybe than Tarja would have been but even so said material does nothing for me. A strange twist on all this is that while numerous attempts to "get" modern Nightwish have failed (was Tuomas always this wordy?) I do like Annette's Allen/Olzen collaborations. (Edit - I get it, Tarja is a one trick pony, and Annette (allegedly) is/was weak live, Floor has the skill and versatility to cover both with an amazing stage presence to top it all off and yet ... I have yet to encounter anything from Floor that has got it's hooks into me as much as Tarja's both in and out of Nightwish and Annette's Allen/Olzen works).
Tarja was and still is the best and she wasn’t even in her prime. Her songs are the most covered and she built the band’s popularity and was the most productive. Live she had great onstage presence despite limitations of technology and stage size. Anette’s albums were the most successful and she was best suited to post-Tarja albums including floor’s albums. Her studio voice is far better than floor’s. Floor’s just doesn’t cut it. She’s got the most disappointing albums and tries to do everything and ends up sounding mediocre. She should just stick to one or two styles (like her predecessors) and that’ll make it easier for Tuomas to write decent songs for her.
My opinion is that all of those singers are the best for the albums that were made **for** them. I hate hearing Floor singing older songs. They don't fit her and if I compare the original singer and her version, I prefer the original one. I believe she should focus singing her songs rather than the previous ones.
So that must be a small world concert you live in then... Floor brings the raw emotion to every song she sings not just with her voice but with her stage presence her interactions and her devotion to the guys in Nightwish
FLOOR IS THE BEST,THE QUEEN!!!
I never liked the band.. Than Floor joined and now i love them

Annette actually had plenty of concerts where she sounded plenty good. She may struggle a little more than them but she still did well.
Always Love Tarja!!!
But FLOOR Is AMAZING!!!
IS THE BEST SINGER IN THE WORLD!!!
Yes Floor is amazing but I prefer Tarja
Hands down.... Floor is the best! No other female singer can match her versatility and power.
I like Floor's voice she is both talented and beautiful but I prefer Tarja
All three singers you analyzed are fantastic and i like all three for the eras they represented. My favorite -- Marko,
FLOOR,,,FLOOR,,,FLOOR
1) floor
2) Tarja
3) Annette

Yeah I really love her voice and do need to explore her other stuff more, my main point is just I wish she was utilised more in the band
@@quagsiremetalhead1401 Perhaps focus more on her live stuff. When she sings live, her qualities become more apparent and alive as well.
