I will never, ever get tired of watching reactions to this song. I’m an old Nightwish fan who grew up with Tarja as lead singer but I 110% recognize this as the better version of the song. Gives me intense chills every time.
I've been a fan of Nightwish for decades now. I respect every member who has been a part of Nightwish in the past. It's amazing how the heart and soul still stands to this day. The changes haven't been bad. It just added some different touches. Everyone has their own personal taste. For me I was blown away by Floor. I knew her a little bit from Forever After, but when she joined Nightwish it just felt like the perfect match. Her range and talent is out of this world. Just like her stage presence and charisma. Yet she's still down to earth and so humble. A true Valkyrie Queen 👸🏻 🙌
I would go so far as to say this exact performance is just the peak performance of this song. Even with Floor, later performances haven't -quite- hit the same level as this one. This show just had that little extra something in it!

I like to see it as 4 different singers that brought something memorable to the band and that some songs fit better for certain people. One example for me is Sleeping Sun where i absolutely prefer Tarjas vocals. With that said i think all 4 of them are important in the history of Nightwish ❤️💯
FYI : Ghost Love Score was the 13th song out of 15 on the set-list, which means sbe pulled that masterpiece after being singing her lungs out for about 2 hours

Don’t worry about getting too technical with analyzing a Nightwish song, especially one sung by Floor Jansen. One of the common things to see in music reactions is that someone who is untrained in music or vocals will listen to Nightwish and might have an emotional reaction or might sort of put on a performance for their reaction video. In contrast, when a trained vocalist watches Nightwish, they get blown away because they actually understand what is happening and recognize the difficulty of what Floor Jansen is doing. Although her performance is quite technical, it sounds appropriate for the song and does not sound like a technical exercise. Often, the trained vocalist reactor has far more to say about Nightwish songs than are expecting to. Many of us Nightwish fans aren’t quite trained in vocal techniques, so listening to a vocal coach explain what is happening can be quite interesting and educational for us.
She sure is accomplished and a master of her instrument and I would accept that she is the best in the world you've heard but the "best in the world" is a rather subjective observation I'm afraid. And that's no slight to Floor. I like Haley Reinhart the best, but is she the best in the world? Is she a master of her instrument? Yes!! Is she more accomplished than Floor? Who cares! They both are wonderful and I take every opportunity to listen to both. "Best" - subjective to the listener. Please.
I am with humph on this, but I sure love Haley as well! Not as many of her songs though, but admittedly, that might be due to her not singing for nightwish or to metal 😅
@@TheTaragond yeah, but I'm rather glad they don't cross over. I was never a metal fan, and only cause they've covered them, the closest I ever got was Pink Floyd live. It's not that I don't like all of either Nightwish, Floor solo's or all of haleys songs. What strikes me most with haley is how her tone hits my brain. Fits like a glove, but like I said, I don't like all her songs. Floor just floors me with her mastery of her instrument, but I only like about 3 Nightwish songs from this concert and some covered by Floor at her Amsterdam Concert in 22.

You know what amazes me? Is the fact that there are still so many people who have not heard of this band today in 2024 and this was from 2013. Every second of everyday to me, more and more are finding out about this beautiful band and how they are mesmerized by them, and they have millions of fans across the globe! There was a synergy and magic to this lineup of the band that will never be replicated. Watching this sometimes gives me a bittersweet feeling when i realize that.
Since you mentioned that you'd gladly spent 100 hours on learning these types of songs, you might want to check out the documentary "please learn the set list in 48 hours" about the time that Floor joins Nightwish halfway through their tour. And yes, Floor indeed had only 48 hours before her first show with Nightwish.

Wow, I love this reaction video! I watch GLS reaction videos almost as a hobby, because I've been a fan of Nightwish since the early 2000's and seeing them gain this online clout is thrilling for me. But also, I'm a visual artist who makes costumes and set design and all kinds of stuff, but I have ZERO talent in music. But the way you described and showed how singing works, and the enthusiasm and the way you geeked out over this is so relatable to me! I get that way about materials, and tools, and seeing someone make something intricate and amazing! So for the firts time, I felt this creative camraderie with a music person! 10:27 Great observation! Most people talk about how hi Flor can bring up her chest voice in a mix but don’t mention or don’t realize how low she can bring her head voice down into her chest. This is why she has such a good placement and navigate between chest mix and head voice through the Passagio so well.

Actually, this concert was part of a tour where their previous singer dropped out and had to be replaced. They called Floor. She had 48 hours!!!! to learn the setlist; there's a video on TH-cam about it.
At this time she was with them for over 10 months. And 10 months prior it was also pretty damn good, the documentary "learn the setlist in 48 hours" is a great watch, showing her skill
I've watched this video and listened to this song so so so many times and still get Goosebumps. Floor is incredible I've been around for all the "evolutions" of the band. After Tarja, I thought it was over for them. Anette wasn't bad but it was just to different for me and I forgot about the band for a few years. Came back and was like who is Floor she would make or break their music for me. She is like a angel sent down to sing for us all
Thank you for mentioning the band. They are a large part of the reason Floor is able to perform this well. I fear you are too late though for seeing them live. They are not touring this album and Tuomas has changed his writing direction towards orchestral work for the cinema.

Nightwish just released a new album, (Yesterwynde, which is brilliant) but they're on a concert hiatus. They're not doing any concerts for a while said Floor. Floor herself will be doing a series of concerts with a solo program in the Netherlands next year.
I would really love Floor to bring her solo show to Montreal. Maybe during one of our music festivals. Perhaps Place des Arts would be a good venue. Nightwish last played MTELUS in May 2022.
@MatthewChaplain That tour has finished. She'll be doing a tour themed around her own story, including her cancer, next year. It will be a performance of song and stories called "Strijdlust" in September and October next year. Was already sold out but today she announced their will be two extra shows.

"I'm becoming a Nightwish fan". Another soul on its way to Valhalla. Depending if you want a VERY emotional experience (tear ducts ready ?) next OR a mind-blowing rendition of 'The origin of species", consider "Poet and the Pendulum" live in Wembley or "The greatest show on earth" live in Tampere. There's some homework recommended for both songs just to understand the background and where the song is coming from. Especially Poet and the Pendulum which Tuomas wrote in a very dark time of his life after the band broke up with their first singer Tarja. Great analysis and as so many said before, the nerding out on vocal techniques is appreciated and you truly appear to be enjoying yourself during the Nightwish experiences (I can't call them songs, just can't). She sure is accomplished and a master of her instrument and I would accept that she is the best in the world you've heard but the "best in the world" is a rather subjective observation I'm afraid. And that's no slight to Floor. I like Haley Reinhart the best, but is she the best in the world? Is she a master of her instrument? Yes!! Is she more accomplished than Floor? Who cares! They both are wonderful and I take every opportunity to listen to both. "Best" - subjective to the listener. Please.

@@TheTaragond yeah, but I'm rather glad they don't cross over. I was never a metal fan, and only cause they've covered them, the closest I ever got was Pink Floyd live. It's not that I don't like all of either Nightwish, Floor solo's or all of haleys songs. What strikes me most with haley is how her tone hits my brain. Fits like a glove, but like I said, I don't like all her songs. Floor just floors me with her mastery of her instrument, but I only like about 3 Nightwish songs from this concert and some covered by Floor at her Amsterdam Concert in 22.

Wow, I love this reaction video! I watch GLS reaction videos almost as a hobby, because I've been a fan of Nightwish since the early 2000's and seeing them gain this online clout is thrilling for me. But also, I'm a visual artist who makes costumes and set design and all kinds of stuff, but I have ZERO talent in music. But the way you described and showed how singing works, and the enthusiasm and the way you geeked out over this is so relatable to me! I get that way about materials, and tools, and seeing someone make something intricate and amazing! So for the firts time, I felt this creative camraderie with a music person! Great observation! Most people talk about how hi Flor can bring up her chest voice in a mix but don’t mention or don’t realize how low she can bring her head voice down into her chest. This is why she has such a good placement and navigate between chest mix and head voice through the Passagio so well.

Also Floor has a sister Irene Jansen that is equally tallented. So now you need to explore these 4 new paths like degrees of separation from Floor - Alyssa White-Gluz & Arch Enemy, Elize Ryd with Amaranthe, Brittney Slayes with Unleash the Archers and the Ayreon universe with the best male and female vocal powerhouses in the metal world all under one roof. Actually, this concert was part of a tour where their previous singer dropped out and had to be replaced. They called Floor. She had 48 hours!!!! to learn the setlist; there's a video on TH-cam about it.
At this time she was with them for over 10 months. And 10 months prior it was also pretty damn good, the documentary "learn the setlist in 48 hours" is a great watch, showing her skill
I've watched this video and listened to this song so so so many times and still get Goosebumps. Floor is incredible I've been around for all the "evolutions" of the band. After Tarja, I thought it was over for them. Anette wasn't bad but it was just to different for me and I forgot about the band for a few years. Came back and was like who is Floor she would make or break their music for me. She is like a angel sent down to sing for us all
Thank you for mentioning the band. They are a large part of the reason Floor is able to perform this well. I fear you are too late though for seeing them live. They are not touring this album and Tuomas has changed his writing direction towards orchestral work for the cinema.

Nightwish just released a new album, (Yesterwynde, which is brilliant) but they're on a concert hiatus. They're not doing any concerts for a while said Floor.
Floor herself will be doing a series of concerts with a solo program in the Netherlands next year.
I would really love Floor to bring her solo show to Montreal. Maybe during one of our music festivals. Perhaps Place des Arts would be a good venue. Nightwish last played MTELUS in May 2022.

It will be a performance of song and stories called "Strijdlust" in September and October next year. Was already sold out but today she announced their will be two extra shows.

Depending if you want a VERY emotional experience (tear ducts ready ?) next OR a mind-blowing rendition of 'The origin of species", consider "Poet and the Pendulum" live in Wembley or "The greatest show on earth" live in Tampere. There's some homework recommended for both songs just to understand the background and where the song is coming from. Especially Poet and the Pendulum which Tuomas wrote in a very dark time of his life after the band broke up with their first singer Tarja.
Great analysis and as so many said before, the nerding out on vocal techniques is appreciated and you truly appear to be enjoying yourself during the Nightwish experiences (I can't call them songs, just can't).
