Hello Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army. Greetings from the Netherlands.
Floor (the Valkyrie Goddess) Jansen is the singer....she's Dutch, and stands over 6 feet tall; and is wearing 4 to 5 inch heels here.....Tuomas (the Metal Mozart) Holopainen is the keyboardist, co-founder (in 1996), leader, guru, composer, lyricist, arranger, and producer of 95% of the band's music....he, and the rest of the band you see here are from Finland....there's a 6th member who is English.......audience was an intimate little gathering of 82,000.....this entire legendary show is on both DVD, and TH-cam, under the title of "Showtime, Storytime"......hello from the Nightwish Army, South Carolina, USA.....
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard. ALL HAIL THE VALKYRIE GODDESS!!! The Nightwish Army is incoming! You're not ready! Nightwish Army Central Florida Black Company reporting for duty!
To me this is the best live performance ever, combined with the best backing track ever. The last part, starting with "The Note" untill the end is the defination of Epic.
When you want to go further on the path of our 1.83m (6ft.+) tall Dutch Valkyrie Queen Floor Jansen besides Nightwish, here is some background information on the best and most versitale female singer of our time. Floor joined the band 'After Forever' in 1997 at the age of 16. Here are some of my favourites: ‘Energize me’; Monolith of Doubt’ and Dreamflight’. Floor attended the then new Rock Academy in 1999 and graduated in 2003. She also studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year Music Theatre and 1 year Opera). 'After Forever' disbanded in 2009 and Floor started her own band 'Revamp' from scratch. Here she experimented with different vocal styles within one song from full operatic to death growls in seconds. Here are some examples: ‘Misery’s no Crime’, ‘Wild card’ and ‘Disdain’. Besides managing a band on her own she also did a lot of vocal coaching and as she is a perfectionist, she wants to do everything at 100%+. Eventually she had to pay the price and got a burnout. She had just recovered when end of september 2012 the call came from Nightwish to fill in for the remainder of the North American Tour at first as their second singer Annette got ill. Floor had just 48 hours to learn the whole setlist. There is a documentary made of this world tour: ‘Please learn the setlist in 48 hours’ Floor joined Nightwish after this iconic Wacken concert in 2013 as permanent member of the band. Floor continued to perform with 'Revamp’ also, but it was clear that she could not combine the two for much longer, so 'Revamp' disbanded in 2016. Floor did a side project called 'Northward' where she dived into the Hard Rock scene. The song 'While Love Died is a must see. Her stunning performances on the Dutch TV show 'Beste Zangers 2019' gave her at last some more recognition in her home country where she was relatively unknown until then. There are numerous guest appearances with other bands to find on TH-cam. To see how to get a crowd of metalheads silenced and in awe watch her featuring with the band 'Epica' and the song 'Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ and to see her in full opera mode, watch her rendition of 'O Mio Babbino Caro' from Puccini. As live concerts were cancelled and home isolation due to the Covid situation, Floor discovered TH-cam in these years. Mindblowing covers, chats with her idols and other singers, vocal masterclasses, personal insights and so much more. She even made a video reacting to herself singing Ghost Love Score at Wacken. Lots of technical info and some memories of her starting with Nightwish. Also her Fan Friday videos are hilarious. Just unpack some of these and other presents she left on her channel. Also videos of her solotour she did with songs of her impressive career. Her latest endeavour is her stunning solo album ‘My Paragon. Floor is a high sensitive person, so peace and quiet is as important for her. Living by the woods in Sweden with her husband Hannes Van Dahl (drummer of the band Sabaton), daughters Freja (turns 8 years next march) and Lucy (1 year this october),a couple of horses, dogs and cats, she found this.

Floor Jansen has been on the symphonic circuit starting with After Forever at 16 years old. Nightwish came some might say around the same time...let's say 1997 is a good base time for both. I'm sure Gabriel can attest to that. So it became almost inevitable or fate you might say that it came to be. Enjoy the journey as I and endless others have, Im 61, grew up in Los Angeles, Ca and seen more in my lifetime - share of bands and performers ...and must say Nightwish is in the top 3 of all time for me, that I would never be tired of listening to. General gabriel.bardac will suggest a song list for you., honestly pick anything. I dare you to keep it under 30 choices.
Now that you've discovered Nightwish and they have so much more! Then I have 2 more bands that you will definitely like. Epica And Ayreon. These 3 bands will open up a whole new rabbit hole for you. The funny thing is that you can find the singers of both Nightwish and Epica working with Ayreon.
"Brand new band". Founded almost 30 years ago in the mid 1990s! Still going strong, new album due out. The genre is considered "symphonic metal". That "organ" is just a decorative keyboard stand. The orchestra and choir are pre recorded, although some of it is keyboard. Nightwish cover the style range from harsh heavy metal to gentle folky ballads to epic classical symphonic sound. Singer Floor Jansen also sings from metal screams and growls to grand opera and all in between. Floor is Dutch, the rest of the band from Finland. Bassist Marco Hietala is a world-class vocalist in his own right. Keyboardist Toumas Holopainen writes nearly all the words and music.
Thankyou for the unskipped version. Hello from Nightwish Army Sydney Australia. Subscribed for your Nightwish journey. General Gabriel will guide you. The songs mean whatever you want them to mean but captions may help, although Floor has made some small changes and the choir's words may not be high in the mix. For me GLS is about feeling lost "I have lost the path before me" when my partner died and wanting it all back. The keyboard surround is based on the Sibelius monument in Helsinki, Finland which produces sounds when the wind blows. Besides the music the literary and science references in the songs could keep you occupied for years.
Meaning of the song: This is one of the rare NightWish songs where the lyrics are not particularly meaningful. Sort of a "I'm in love with you but I am not sure you love me", songs. Many of the Nightwish songs have incredibly intelligent and deep meanings. Not many are about romantic relationships. There are so many many fantastic Nightwish songs to hear, nigh on 30 years of them. Few of the songs are simple, even if they sound simple on the surface, they are not. Many key changes, time signature changes and tempo changes. The composer, Tuamos, is very much a genius. Composing the metal parts, the classical parts and the vocal parts and arranging them. Their most recent album YESTERWYNDE has orchestral versions of each song whereby the lead vocals and the metal arrangements are removed leaving the classical music. Most listenable classical music I have ever heard.
@@vhsVin I've been a fan of nightwish for the last 10 years, and seen them live twice, some of my best experiences ever in a live venue! Got into Dreamcatcher in 2018, quite early on in their discography, and got to see them live this past February which was also an amazing experience! Both groups are worth diving into their discography. I don't think either have a bad song!
Since you are a fan of AOT. You need to check out Epica. Another Symphonic Metal band...they inspired the music for AOT. And at the request of the AOT composer, covered 4 songs...Starting with Crimson Bow and Arrow. I would recommend that and start with their own stuff with Consign to Oblivion and Design Your Universe.
Interesting reaction Vin, and I hope you continue with this Nightwish journey. I enjoyed your critique and grading at the end. Just snip that segment and keep it to hand for it applies to every Nightwish song you will listen to. Just post this critique each time - it will end up saving you time trying to think up ever more things to say....
