I think it is the most perfect tempo for that piece I've ever heard. You can even listen up every note. He accelerates and reduces tempo so elegantly you can taste a dream.
I love that this guy plays it slower and with more passion. Like everyone else, I’ve heard it played faster by other pianists, but with no musicality. That’s THE problem with fast players in general. You see it in these competitions. They play it so fast that you’re wondering if they skipped notes……..Yet, they win because they’re conventional and play and express the music in the exact same way as everyone else. I’ve heard the argument that playing something fast is the best measure of skill and that anybody can play something slow. I’m sorry but those people who play fast, again, usually lack musicality. ANYBODY can play something fast if they put enough time into it. You’ll ruin the piece with a lack of expression but you can do it. It’s the one who can express music the best that gets remembered. The expression, in my opinion, is the hard part. Those of you who think I’m wrong need to take a look at these fast players who have technical skills but lack expression. If expressing music was easy, then more pianists would do it instead of just relying on speed.
As a classical pianist myself I fully agree. Sometimes treating a piece as though it's a competition to see who can play it the fastest doesn't really work, and doesn't produce the best result.
I agree too. You can tell when the pianist is really feeling the music and when they're displaying their technical skill. This is true with all genres of music. There are rock guitarists who play a difficult solo very fast and it's impressive but another, less difficult solo, played with feeling and love of the piece, is more moving.
Thank you...this wonderful Etude has always been my Encore piece, in memory of my Mother. It is brilliant when performed fast, and great fun, but it isn't Chopin in spirit.
Sandarsh Nigam: excuse me, i believe that the sound is formed in the brain shortly before the fingers do what is meant and wished by the pianist. Mind and body of the pianist are framing _one_ unit to achieve what we are receiving with our senses. Thank you.
Good old Barenboim. A true master of the art. Enjoyed watching and listening to his recordings of Mozart's many piano sonatas recorded when Barenboim was way much younger.
Chopin was my dear mother's favourite composer. This Etude is my favourite Chopin piece. I love the way Chopin gave interesting songs to both hands and Mr. Barenboim lets every single note of the melody soar above everything. The ending is so charming. Thank you for a balm to the soul in these challenging times - utterly sublime.
I don’t understand how this music isn’t played commonly in movies and still widely known in modern culture amongst non-piano enthusiasts. Brilliantly played, and this music really is unmatched to anything seen today.
personally i think having already established musical pieces played in movies would not only take away attention from the pieces themselves but also cheapen them. new classical style compositions made for the movie itself is way better
over christmas last year i sat down at my family's piano and played Chopin's Prelude No.7 in A major, and my mom said "I know that song! It's from a cat food commercial!"

This is a marvelous performance by Maestro Barenboim. I always see Butterflies when listening to this magical piece. And, of course, this piece alone is one of the many reasons why the great Chopin is presented with fresh flowers, daily, at his tomb in Père-Lachaise. 💙
One of my favorite, if not my favorite Chopin piece since I was a teenager. And it has revisited me throughout my life at various times, always in a positive way. This slower tempo and very pure, heartfelt passion in this version allows me to savor it. Thank you. From the decades older, Me.
Magnificent, the Maene Viñoly piano elicits all of the feelings of the artist's expression in exquisite detail and clarity! Very moving rendition! Had tears listening! Bravo!
I don't particularly like Mr. Bareboim's Chopin in general, but this piece he plays very special. He has his own color and decoration. Sometimes slower is worst but his slower tempo is the importance element of his interpretation of this piece. Thank you.

It seems that no piano are big enough to express all the emotions this pianist can express. Wonderful interpretation of such a beautiful song. Thank you
Mr. Barenboim's interpretation seems inspired by Arthur Rubinstein's interpretation. A sincere congratulations to Mr. Barenboim on the longevity of his career. Job well done. Also, I'm really enjoying the voicing on the left-hand thumb - SWEET! Finally, the double Mozart Concerto performance with Ashkenazi in 1966 was amazing! 👏👏👏👏👏👌✌
Absolutely beautiful playing, full of musical expression. You really get to appreciate the music and not be distracted by overdramatic bodily movements of current pianists.
Daniel Barenboim is an exceptional role model for many of us, and not 'just' as a musician. The word I associate with him is COURAGE. He promotes music as a universal language, and wields it in his heroic efforts to build bridges and make peace between cultures, nations, races, no matter how challanging his mission is. Thank you, Maestro!
Maestro Daniel, Barenboim have no konkurrent in to days music life. Pianist and conductor in the super class, and have been so sins he was a very young boy. Listen to this great personality. Brynjar Hoff

Have you seen our Moment Musical livestream series with Daniel Barenboim? What was your favourite piece he performed?
Mozart Sonatas! All time favourites. 😊
This one
I loved everything, from the Diabelli Variations to the Schumann Quintet! I loved how easy he made Chopin's Op 10 No 4 and Op 10 No 8 Études look!
Concerto número 1 de Chopin.

The slower tempo made the music seem more "pure" somehow. Absolutely wonderful, what a magic rendition of one of Chopin's most poetic Etudes.
Absolutely agree
I just started practicing this one. Even if I COULD play it as fast as some, I wouldn't. This is perfect.
My Mother's favorite 💕. I play it as my encore theme every concert.
Not poetic but etude, listen to Pollini.
Totally agree.
Sir Daniel is just beautiful..!! The playing is so composed. Chopin comes alive with the sound from his fingers. ❤️
