    Just picked up my 2022 WRX and it absolutely needs the pitch stop. No matter how smooth I shift, there’s always a little slop to 1st and 2nd, drives me nuts! Will be throwing in the Perrin here shortly, thanks for another great vid IIR!

    The order that you reinstalled the retainer clip on the charge pipe confuses me. If the clip's function is to hold the charge pipe in place, why don't you reinsert the charge pipe fully and then snap the retainer clip back in place to lock it? I haven't worked with this before, but it seems akin to tightening a hose clamp before putting the hose in.

    Great vid! Does the pitch stop help with the jerkiness going from 1st to 2nd gear?? Or do you think installing the STI short shifter is better for the jerkiness?? I just got my new 2022 WRX and I love it! Thanks!

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is mostly to stop the engine from moving as much in the engine bay, which will likely increase vibrations and any jerkiness you feel. A short shifter or shifter stop might help you more. Also try practicing with the clutch to see if you can find a "sweet spot" for your shifts.

      He's talking about the elastic band effect this car is horrible for. I've been driving manual cars and trucks my whole life, and I've never experienced anything like this car. Release the clutch too soon, and the thing starts bucking like a bronco.

    Okay.. I have a stupid question. Why does the aftermarket pitch stop mount, make the engine noises louder than the stock?

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The stiffer bushings connecting the engine to the car allow for more reverberation to enter the cabin. Hence more audible engine noise 😊

    @importimageracing #importimage racing How long did this take?
    I don't have a garage and live in an apartment. Debating just taking it to my shop. My biggest concern is boost leaks. I don't want to start removing parts that cause boost leaks. My 05 STi, God I loved it (612whp), but every time anything was removed that could cause a boost leak I got one. One shop even pressure tested every time they removed parts like this (for free). Which is great it it's free, but rare. I've never had a new car and I don't want to mess with things and create problems.

    • @daneyoung7770
      @daneyoung7770 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was a very easy install. For this, you shouldn't run into any sorts of leaks as these parts can only go one way. I'd say if you have never done this before, it'd take you 30min to an hour. But, if you have an impact and are mechanically inclined, this should only take you 15-30min :)

    I installed one of these in my '16 WRX but then had some anxiety because I didn't install the corresponding pitch stop brace. I've heard different thing's about the PC brace welds in front of the firewall cracking, but I didn't think it would be a huge issue under normal driving conditions (not tracking or launching it).
    I had it in for about 6 months with no issue before I finally sold the car. For the new VB, do you think it would be necessary to install the PC brace?

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that was a big issue that they revised eventually. It happened to people with stock pitch stops as well. It was a TSB and if yours cracked you could have it replaced for free under warranty. They eventually reinforced the area so the VB chassis probably carries over that revision.

    • @K03sport
      @K03sport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...not new parts, but instead carryover parts from the VA chassis that is compatible with the VB chassis. There are many carryover parts, ex. The VB cars use the STi transmission case, so the VA STi group-n trans mount fits. I would also believe that the VA group-n pitch stop mounts works too instead of spending extra money on the Perrin piece....

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The VB chassis does not use the STI Transmission case. The VA STI mount only works because they switched back to it. The wrx always used that mount and they just changed it out for the VA chassis for some reason. All sub 14 wrx and sti used that mount. And the VA chassis pitch stops do transfer over. We didn't choose the perrin one for any specific reason. We carry tons of brands including the group N mount. They all fit the same.

  • @gherman87
    @gherman87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just installed the Perrin pitch stop mount on the 2022 WRX and I was wondering does the firewall bracket seem to be improved from previous years? Or do you think it can benefit from the Perrin bracket brace? If so have you guys tested previous years to see if they fit?

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems better than previous years. There was a TSB recall on the 15-16 model years for the welds breaking on the firewall and it was revised in 2017 and I don't believe it has been common since. However, the extra peace of mind is nice. We haven't personally tested out that part on this car yet.

    There's no way you tightened that front bolt to 444 in.lb with those tiny wrenches. If I did that at my job I wouldn't record it because it would be evidence at my trial. I've seen guys given the option of paying 900k in damages and jail time or relinquish their license and resign for smaller mistakes. It irks me how automotive technicians give all technicians a bad name. Not using a torque wrench on powertrain components is beyond amateur.

  • @K03sport
    @K03sport 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not use the VA Group-n pitch stop mount (psm)? That way the psm compliments the trans mount. Why did you choose the Perrin unit? I'm not buying half of the stuff you said about reasons to upgrade.

    • @ImportImageRacing
      @ImportImageRacing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The group N mount is fine, we are just showing people other options that we carry. And okay that's fine if you don't believe the reasons to upgrade. If you own a wrx you will eventually see what we are talking about and change this out. Lots of people break them and they are very sloppy stock. It was mentioned in the video that the new wrx seemed smoother but over time I'm sure it will get sloppy like any other wrx and in that case this is a huge upgrade. If it wasn't a problem companies like Grimmspeed, IAG, Perrin, Torque Solution, or Subaru themselves wouldn't have made an upgrade.
