People keep suggesting leaving a rock peg as a marker for reversing back when returning to the driveaway awning, but as I park with the back nearside of the motorhome close to the pitch marker, as instructed on Caravan Club sites, I used that as my reversing guide. Also I'm not sure it's a good idea to leave a rock peg lying about, someone could trip over it, or puncture a tyre.
It was lovely to see Llanberis again. We stayed on the Morris Leasure site at Llanberis a couple of years ago and loved our time there. The Quarry Hospital is well worth a visit when open, we found the information there inside the building facinating. And it was all a 10 to 15 minute walk from the camp site! We will definitely be heading back there once everything is back to 'normal'. Thanks for a lovely trip down memory lane. Jonathan.
It was fantastic to see Vivian quarry again. We used to scuba dive there several times a year and have lots of happy memories. Some of the original quarry buildings are still intact at the bottom of that lake. One of which is the blast house, a very sturdy round building where they used to store the explosives. There's also a sunken cabin cruiser down there along with all manner of other interesting junk!
@@BobEarnshawMoHo I remember seeing the photos of how they did it. It was trailered through the entrance archway then craned into the water, towed out to the correct location and then scuttled to give the trainee divers something interesting to explore! There's a dive quarry near Lancaster called Capernwray which actually has a Cessna in it.
Hi Bob, Jenny and Poppy, lovely run out and fantastic scenery. The sun came out for your day out. Nice to return to sit in your driveway awning. Thank you for taking us with you xx
Thank you Bob,Jenny and of course Poppy ,not been to LLanberis since mid 1990's so has bought back many happy memories of camping @ Rynys Farm in Betws-y-Coed and day trips to the surrounding areas :)
I love LLanberis, stayed at the LLanberis campsite several times. The slate museum is amazing, seeing how the big water wheel powered all the machinery. There is a little shop nearby and we had our house name made out of slate and it was posted on to us. Been on the little railway round the lake, and inside the hospital and up to the castle. Never tire of it! Only drawback, we couldn't go on the Snowdon railway as they don't allow dogs on there, only guide dogs. Really enjoyed this video, happy memories for me.
Excellent vlog today. I spent many summer holidays as a child and adult in North Wales so it brought back many happy memories...Living in New Zealand as i do now I really miss the history and the area as a whole...thanks for the happy memories.
Another great vlog , thank you for the beautiful scenery on our trip today . I don’t think I’ve been to Llanberis it will be on my list to do . Thanks again both
I found this video and was amazed that you two didn't argue when all that work went on with your awning. My seventh wife and I always did, even on our first day of a holiday when we were caravanning. The worst time was when she was just about to give birth to our fifth child ........But we all move on. Now I have a Burstner M.H. and love it as I just close the door and drive away. You both obviously have grand children because otherwise there would be no use for the awning. I now suffer from P.T.S.D every time I look at an awning or even a two man tent or even a bag of tent pegs. Shouldn't have watched your video. Wanted to take extra medication but left them at home. Now I am in deep cold sweat and can't sleep.
Thanks for the views Jenny and Bob, we could recognise a lot of the places there. Last time we went to Llanberis - we had a lovely train ride to the top of Snowdon. Highly recommended.
Lovely area, fond memories of holidays there as a child, watching your videos over this lockdown, I have been contemplating a motorhome, but feel that our caravan and car is the better option for us. Thank you both and Poppy.
Great video again. As we now have a motorhome as opposed to a small campervan the info on where you can park with a larger vehicle is very useful to us.
I'm new to your blogs and thoroughly enjoy them! My husband is finally going to retire next year and as he loves driving (so do I) we decided we ought to try Motorhoming and see more of our own country! I have been watching lots of your trips, taking in all the advice on how to do lots of stuff! So next step is to hire one for a couple of weeks to see how we get on and then if we enjoy it as much as you two seem to, the next step is to get ourselves a second hand one and away we go! X Mind you some of the lovely new vans you have reviewed look amazing! We shall see! Thanks again!
Really enjoyed this video Bob and Jenny. Just having that long drive in the motorhome with the great scenery and the stops yous made along the way excellent .
Thank you for this video. I haven't been to Wales for a few years, names of places I have known since I climbed Snowden when I was 4.... So pleased you had some sun at last!
Great video. Amazed that UK RV’s have the old fashioned manual awnings as every size RV is automatic with most automatically closing due to high wind sensors, along with in built leds.
They are English, very behind the times. They have to fix the awning to the canopy instead of using studs fixed on the RV. It must make a racket at night if its windy.
It doesn't make a racket when it's windy, a driveaway awning like ours is fitted to the canopy using a canvas strip and figure of 8 strips as you can see in this video.
A lot of what you see on European motorhomes is due to weight considerations. Many drivers are limited to driving up to 3.5 tonnes, so heavy automatic electric motors will only be found on larger motorhomes.
Thanks for the video Bob. I have the same awning and used your video on putting it up, really helped as the written instruction booklet was not as good as it could have been! I was wondering about getting the motorhome position right when returning (I haven't driven away as yet) but I see your comment on using the pitch marker.
Very helpful videos - we have just bought the same awning and the instruction booklet is minimal to say the least! Hard to get it all squared up but think that will come with practice - and some hi-vis tape to mark out the parking space.
Hi Bob, perhaps it might help, when rolling up the bit that attaches to the van I always roll it under so that if it rains it doesn't hold any water. Just a little point to stop you getting soaked when attaching back to the van if it has been raining. Another great informative video, thank you. Ken

We thought the campsites in Wales were only opening today, 25th. Visited the slate museum years ago, really interesting. I tend to use the Wastemaster and the Aquaroll when we stay put on a site for 5 nights or more. Saves having to move the motorhome. Works well when we are attending shows at the NEC and we've brought the car with us.
Bob you seem to be having problems with the canopy handle, if you push in pole up then turn it 90° then pull it down it locks in so it won't come out whilst turning it .
Are you near Dolgellau? We spent the day at Mach Loop/Cad West it was amazing being at eye level with the low flying aircraft tearing through the valley.
Hi Bob, can I ask whether the awning is a Midline or a Highline please? I’ve measured my Fiat Ducato PVC to the channel on the Thule Omnistore awning at 239 cm (both front and rear) so it looks like I should get a Midline but I’m not really sure! Also can you please advise what type, length, etc., your driveaway awning kit is as I notice you also have a Thule awning. Many thanks in advance.👍
It's a midline version. The highline is more for overcab models. The driveaway kit is three lengths of around a meter plus about 4 metres of double beading fabric thing. The kits are fairly standard I think.
Thanks for sharing your exploits Bob I really enjoy them including the journey getting to your destinations, on this one you mentioned the railway that took slate to Felinheli (which is Port Dinowic harbour) the railway was called the Padarn Railway which I had done a CGI video of it..taking slate to Penscoins to be transported down to the Harbour...Another bit of useless information for you 👍

Hi Bob Jenny Poppy , lovely scenery along the way , i am looking forward to Sunday now. How have the Welsh folk been with you? has they were restricted to only going within 5 miles until recently. Have you ever been on the horseshoe pass to llangollin?.
Do you sometimes think that Caravanning would be easier? We’re increasingly finding taking the van off-site is a bit of a ffaf. especially in the sometimes narrow roads of North Wales and we’re reluctant to tow with an A frame as it’s basically back to Caravanning. Overall we still think motorhoming is better, but there’s not much in it!
Bob, should you not leave the pegs next to the van in the ground, so you have markers where to put the van when you return? And to keep the awning clean and dry you should roll it outside in and not inside out, if you know what I mean. Nice video again, Peter
There has to be a better way Bob with these Driveaway awnings !! 😳they are such a faff , as you say if youve had a long day a want a cold one !!those Dometic Rally Air pro s look pretty cool
@@BobEarnshawMoHo I get my other half to watch me to reverse back to the marker. It doesn't have to be stuck up in the air? I put the rock peg in the center of the tyre & works every time and makes it easier to reattach our Vango kela which has the same connection as your own.
We decided not to bring the car this time, but yes sometimes it's easier to tow the car and take it on day trips. The disadvantage of going in the car for a day trip is you don't have your own facilities with you.

We’re increasingly finding taking the van off-site is a bit of a ffaf. especially in the sometimes narrow roads of North Wales and we’re reluctant to tow with an A frame as it’s basically back to Caravanning. Overall we still think motorhoming is better, but there’s not much in it!
No, I think it's easier to tow something small with something big, but each to their own.
Bob, should you not leave the pegs next to the van in the ground, so you have markers where to put the van when you return?
And to keep the awning clean and dry you should roll it outside in and not inside out, if you know what I mean.
Nice video again, Peter
Thanks, I use the pitch marker to line up when I return. Not sure about leaving pegs in the ground, someone could do themselves a nasty!
@@BobEarnshawMoHo Sorry Bob, I did not think of the pitch marker. We don't use them on the continent. Peter
There has to be a better way Bob with these Driveaway awnings !! 😳they are such a faff , as you say if youve had a long day a want a cold one !!those Dometic Rally Air pro s look pretty cool
Oh man! You didn’t go to Petes Eats! 10 out of 10 for your Welsh. Not bad at all. 😀🏴
Thanks!

Hi Bob i put a rockpeg behind the rear wheel as i drive away. On return i reverse upto rock peg hey presto?
People keep suggesting leaving a rock peg as a marker for reversing back when returning to the driveaway awning, but as I park with the back nearside of the motorhome close to the pitch marker, as instructed on Caravan Club sites, I used that as my reversing guide. Also I'm not sure it's a good idea to leave a rock peg lying about, someone could trip over it, or puncture a tyre.
@@BobEarnshawMoHo I get my other half to watch me to reverse back to the marker. It doesn't have to be stuck up in the air? I put the rock peg in the center of the tyre & works every time and makes it easier to reattach our Vango kela which has the same connection as your own.
Hi guys, would it be easier too tow your car .
We decided not to bring the car this time, but yes sometimes it's easier to tow the car and take it on day trips. The disadvantage of going in the car for a day trip is you don't have your own facilities with you.
Better-see-coid !
Thank you

Thanks
Some very inconsiderate parking on the Llanberis pass Bob, what's wrong with people's thinking!
Yes, people think they can park on double yellow lines with impunity now, perhaps they think the law has changed since the pandemic!
Al thomas, saw yor comment just now and I agree with you 100%. what it is, these Corona IDIOTS as they are called

The fine is not enough

Hi Bob, can I ask whether the awning is a Midline or a Highline please? I’ve measured my Fiat Ducato PVC to the channel on the Thule Omnistore awning at 239 cm (both front and rear) so it looks like I should get a Midline but I’m not really sure! Also can you please advise what type, length, etc., your driveaway awning kit is as I notice you also have a Thule awning. Many thanks in advance.👍
It's a midline
