All games depend on the group you are playing them with, but I feel New Angeles has that more so than others. It needs a lot of buy in to work. Then its a good game. Any games you know like that, great for a certain group, flat with a lot of others
3 Minute Board Games It seems that both negotiation and traitor mechanics greatly increase the need for buy-in. Dead of Winter and Sheriff of Nottingham come to mind, though SoN is much more accessible. With the right group though, DoW is a blast!
Matthew Combs Agreed. Cosmic Encounter also comes to mind. Potential for one of the best game experiences (with 5 or more) but it only takes one grump to ruin the fun.
I agree. I found the multiple winner possibility made for much more realistic negotiation than any board game I have played (both parties can come out on top by negotiating), which is the central dynamic of the game.
Thats a a good point. A lot of negotiation heavy games, diplomacy, chnatown, game of thrones for example, still ahve a single winner. Whereas multiple winners can lead to more nuance instead of "they're ahead, stop them"
What are the chances of getting a refreshed version of this video? There's a painful ringing in the audio and, while I adore your videos, I could not make it to the 2 minute mark. 😣
Maybe for you. My groups don't muck about and play the game. You can easily play New Angeles in 2 hours if people aren't time wasting or spending ages talking in circles over every decision. In all our negotiation games, we try to keep the pace up. Makes for a better experience. And yes, have played 6 player in 2 hours including setup and pack down.
@@3MBG Congrats on being such super efficient gamers then. In my rounds, we play for fun, not speed, and trying to fuck with each other during negotiations is kind of the whole point of the game. Also, I go to a lot game meet-ups and can honestly say that I've never met a single person who claims to have finished a 6-player game of New Angeles in 2 hours.
We play for fun too, been playing this way for 30 years though, focus on the game, talk about stuff but always keep the game moving. It's not a play for fun vvs play for speed choice. It's easy to do both. Playing that slow Is like watching a movie on half speed. I've been to many other groups that play like you do, and honestly, you get the same amount of memorable moments out of a 2 hour game that you do in a 6 hour one. And then you can do something else or play 2 more games of it. Claiming your way is the only actual fun way is really daft. People at my table are engaged and having fun, which is why i have a 50 person facebook group of local people lining up for the limited spots at my table.

I can't hear it personally, it might be part of the music, or a frequency my old man ears don't pick up
Def the music, but the voice sounds off as well, compared to other videos.
Thank you for all of your work, and for the reply!
Surprised you didn’t compare this one to Archipelago
I can see the comparison for sure. NA is so much sleeker though.
Stopped listening at "playing time is around two hours", lol...
I take it you don't watch any movies then, lol.
@@3MBG The point is that a game of New Angeles, even with 4 players, can take considerably longer than two hours and definitely will with 5-6 players.
