    • @martyneugene357
      @martyneugene357 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@arismaiden6457 it also has a couple of factual mistakes. Like Lenin wasn't in the middle class, he was from a noble family, his father was granted hereditary nobility. And it was not true that Russia didn't want to industrialize. Russia was steadily developing even before 1905.
      Exporting grain during famine is a lie.
      First of all, no one really died of famine. It wasn't like Holodomor with thousands of dead bodies on the street. Lots of people had to eat their livestock, because they weren't able to feed them, that's true. Almost nobody died from actual hunger. There were people who die of cholera, and malnutrition could have contributed to the death tall, but it's not the same as dying from hunger.
      Government provided welfare to 11 million people, and exports of grain were reduced.
      And Lenin never used a dress as a disguise. There's a belief that Kerensky did, but there's no evidence other than a rumor in the red army.
      Also, "expect your life to barely change" after serfdom was abolished is a lie.
      First, they had to pay back not to them, but to the government that bailed them out. And they only had to pay mortgage for houses and farms they got for free(they belonged to the lord prior). And the rate they had to pay is 6% of their annual income. Plus it was abolished in 1907

    Also fun facts: Tsar Alexander the 2 was killed by a polish revolutionary. One thing they forgot to mention was that Alexander the 2 was also a bit oppressive. He was especially hated by Poles after the failed insurrection in Poland (wich some historians think might have been provoked by russian secret Police)

    "Socialist" and "Communist's" are derogatory buzzwords, particularly by Republicans or the far right, in the U.S. for anything considered too left and thus dangerous and bad. The ideas don't have to resemble anything particularly Marxist to get that reputation. Sanders, with his seen as radical for the U.S. ideas, gets it a lot, though he is not alone. That is what I think Oversimplified is going for.

    In Russia, unlike Europe, where slavery and serfdom existed from the time of the Roman Empire to the 19th century, there were no serfs until 1649. Before that, the peasants in Russia were free people who worked on the land owned by the prince and paid taxes. After the reform of 1649, the peasants became part of the estates, but most of the peasants (70%) were serfs of the church, and after the reform of 1763 they became state peasants, free personally, but working on land owned by the Ministry of Finance. Serfs belonging to the nobles (30% of the peasants) could receive printed passports in the 18-19 centuries and trade, travel anywhere, owned property, landlords often sent the smartest serf children to study and gave them freedom. Serfdom was abolished in Russia in 1861. The state peasants became completely free. The serfs of the landowners, although they received freedom and part of the land, had to buy from the landowners (who for the most part lost their means of subsistence) the main part of arable land. In 1882, the Russian government forcibly bought all the land from the landlords, giving the peasants 49-year installments to pay off the loan. They paid 6 rubles a year from the family, when the janitor received 30 rubles a month. In 1907, this loan was canceled by the state. In 1890, 80% of the arable land in Russia belonged to peasants. In 1917, Russian peasants had been free for 56 years.

    Trust me, good sir, Okhrana is not the worst imperial organisation Russian people need to deal between 1881 and 1917.
    There were a lot non-state pro-goverment "fan clubs" (which been highly depended by Emperor's Offices financing), like Black Hundreds (or Chornii Sotni). Those guys had beat, loot, purge and kills if nessesery all "danger" minorates, like Jewish people.
    You may already knew that all were made to give Russian Police and Security Service "green light" to arrive as a heroes in order to protect empire.
    Funny thing is how quickly all these organizations disappeared with the abdication of the Romanovs from the throne. And NOONE of them came to the save the emperor or the empire.
    Pure and cruel irony.
