Always nice when parts that look to be in need of refurbishment or replacement come up a treat with a bit of elbow grease! Thanks guys! x
Sure thing Mike, it's always rewarding to make old parts fresh again! Thanks for your support mate.
I really appreciate the way you explain things you are doing.
It helps newer guys to understand why you are doing things the way you do.
The bike is really coming along Del.
And Penny's camera work is over the top. She is ten times better than a LOT of these so-called "content providers".
Thanks, cheers. Eric in Kissimmee.
Wow Eric, thank you so much for those kind words on behalf of both of us, Penny's always been there with the camera making it easier for me to focus on the job and presenting the information, it's a true team effort!
Looking terrific. I'm sure the video production takes longer but I really appreciate the extra explanation. Those tips really help untrained people like me, cheers.
Glad it was helpful mate, thanks for watching.
Great work Del and Penny. The video content and quality on this channel is unmatched anywhere. Great tips on the removal of stubborn allen head screws. I'm embarrassed to say I was unfamiliar with red rubber grease. I figured it was silicone but did a little googling and see it is vegetable based. It's impossible to watch a DG video without learning something new. So much appreciated. God bless and stay well always my friends. ❤👍👍
Thanks Rick, it's always great if we can pass on something new, the rubber grease really will get you out of trouble on old dried out obsolete parts, I'm never without a tube in the garage, has so many uses. Have a great week yourself and thanks for all your kind support, D&Px
3/20/2023 So sweet just love your work
(1993 Sportster 883cc 5-spd 1775 original miles)
still needs a little tlc
Good tip on using a torx bit on the Allen screw, and on renewing the headlight seal.
Excellent video Del and Penny,. That tough black is the business, looks excellent mate. I did not think you would get the speedo screw out that easy, job well done. Penny and you have a good week. Cheers
Thanks mate, all of the screws like that are a bit touch and go as you put the load on the tool and a relief when they finally crack!... have a great week and keep safe, D&Px
It's coming along beautifully! The salt on our roads really is a bugger! I really enjoyed the quality of the video production. Well played!
Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed the video, it's nice to know it's appreciated!
Very smart job too.
Thanks Andy!
Quality work and some great tips, nice one Del👍
Thanks buddy. Glad you enjoyed it!
Good tipp with the new=sharp allen key after cleaning the hole.
Thanks, Günter from Nürnberg/Germany
Great tip using the red rubber grease to restore hardened rubber. I know you get fantastic finishes out of a rattle can but one tip i learned was to take the spray nozzle off and run hot tap water over the top of the can for around 5 mins. It increases the pressure in the can and thins the paint so it comes out in a finer mist. You don't end up using as much and always and I mean always get a flawless finish. It really surprised me when I first tried it as I could never get a finish as good as I would of liked. Everytime now it's like a professional done it lol. Anyway give it a try sometime and see what you think
Great work! Cant wait to see this beast hit the road. Much love and admiration here from sunny South Africa ❤️🔥✌️
Hey buddy, nice to hear from you all the way from SA, glad you're enjoying the videos, I wish we had your climate here for when we do get on the road, it'd be great to ride it if all I had to worry about was red sand! From one Saffa to another, ride safe my Broer!
Del. Great tip on the rubbers. Now to find some rubber grease here in the USA. Awesome detail work. Almost as good as mine 😂joking mate. Bike is looking great. 👍👌
No joking there buddy, your work is top class, detailed and meticulous and you're going to turn out a sterling result!
I'm a few days behind but I get 2 instalments at once . Bonus!
👍❤️🤗
Really looking forward to seeing the finished bike.
Great tips - all the Parts Del will look the job when fitted. The shot of the bike at the end looks 👌
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying it, it's a great project and really nice to bring the ol' bike back to life!
Hey hey Del. Been a couple of weeks since I’ve dropped in. The old cycle’s looking good man. Very impressive to be fair. Congrats by the way, probably a bit late, on the 200k subscribers. Been a long road and sometimes bumpy…. But look at you now!!! Well done fella, here’s to the next 100k. All the best to you and Penny brother.
Thank you Brother, from you Sir that is a welcome congratulations indeed, you know more than most the potholes we've ridden over to get here and the sometimes challenging ride that it's been... but onwards and upwards, we are honoured to have such loyal support. Take care both of you, and stay in touch, D&Px
Great video Del. Always love your tips. I will remember the one about the rusted screw and the rubber for the headlamp. Didn't know that the red rubber grease would do that to old rubber if you let it sit for a while. Awesome job Del.
Yes indeed buddy, the rubber grease is vegetable based (castor), so does no harm and will most certainly soften up and extend the life of old obsolete parts... !
Outstanding!
This is one of your most enjoyable (for me) projects since I've been watching.
Also, I second the comment about video quality, always top notch!!
Wow, thanks Harold, that's very kind of you and we're glad you're enjoying it!
I`m not a great fan of Harley`s, but this one is looking good. She`s really starting to come together now.
Another great restoration video brother !!! I've been there with those allen screws, I was praying for you lol those sometime can turn in a whole afternoon trying to take them out 😂 great tips also brother !!! bike is looking awesome!!! stay safe guys cheers from new york 🍺🍺🍺🥂🥂🥂🥂
Thanks brother, always a challenge, specially the tiny fasteners rusted in place, just needs a patient approach and often you can get them out... and that's even more satisfying when you do!
Turning out beautiful, and always love the tips n' tricks. Great fun for me to see all the components and what makes things tick on motorcycles that I have never had any familiarity with!
Thanks so much!
Really enjoyable watch.....,although it was a little longer than usual.,it was over way too soon and has me already looking forward to the next one.
Not a "Harley guy"....,but this content (and presentation) is Great (your best work so far.!!)
Both of you.....
Well done you guys.....,top class all the way.....
BG.
Thank you so much Brian for those kind and generous words of support... it was a long day and I did the same amount of reduction editing as usual and it just ended up being a little bit longer video because of that!... but made great progress and happy with the results!
Cracking tip for the Allen bolts, the amount I’ve chewed up messing about doing things isn’t worth talking about 😂
Most welcome mate.
God I want this bike.
Very classy build 😊
Thank you 😁
I'm not a great Harley fan. But I really want to build this bike now. Thank you Del....
A dab of Kroil on those Allen screw heads would soften the rust too.
Well done, as always, Del. I really like that you did the body filler on such a small part, something that very few people would go to the trouble to do. I am totally with you... those are the small details that add up to a spectacular finished product. You don't have to have perfect parts, just do your very best with the parts that you have, and you know exactly what you have. Now, you have pride in the back of a speedometer that you would have cared nothing at all about, if it was factory new when you got it. To me, that's what this channel is all about... The value of doing your very best on whatever you put your hands on. Nothing like that feeling of "I did that". My guess is, those who automatically hit "dislike" without even watching the videos do so out of their own bad feelings about their own not-so-successful approach of "good enough", when what they really mean is "too much trouble for me", so they have no clue of the satisfaction of a job well done... Keep 'em comin', Delboy :)
Thanks for your very kind words mate, we really appreciate that... the internet is a funny ol' platform to get your message across and as it's open to everyone, there will always be good and bad people to deal with. Take care and thank you for your support.
Great video, I always like the tips you give someday that will help 😀, I've just started watching your Triumph TT rebuild 👍
Thanks mate, appreciate the support, the Legend was a great project, now in the hands of it's happy new owner!
Man, that black paint stuff really does the job.
All the parts have come up wonderfully well.
Really looking forward to the finish.
Will you do an episode road testing the end result?
Hi Nick, we always try with every one of the projects to do a final road ride episode and a walk round at a beautiful local church, just to celebrate the project finish and show everybody away from the busyness of the garage, what the bike looks like in the day light, it's a little way off yet, but it's a firm plan as long as it's not snowing or thick salt on the roads! Thanks for your support.
Do you think that Red Rubber grease would be benefical to intake boots on like a four cylinder motorcycle?
Looks stunning Del
flawless work well done both
Thank you!
Quote of the night; it floated on through from the kitchen while you were busy rattle-canning the black paint on,
"Is 'e alright these days? - breathing sounds a bit rough." . . . forced to explain my hysterics, it almost cost me dinner : )xx
Looking great, can't wait to see the final product!
Enjoyed the process Del! Cheers Mate.
Thanks Shaun 👍
I'm wondering why you don't use penetrating spray to pretreat those rusty parts. Even WD-40?
I joined your channel many moons ago because of the solid maintenance and other tips that you provided. This still holds true today, Del.
Thanks mate, we appreciate your long term support.
Sir ultimate you sir
You have more patience than i would. I’d go straight to sand blasting but I understand why you strip off as much material as you can before you blast. Thanks and have a great weekend.
Sure thing buddy, you take very care possible to keep as much debris as you can out of the blast media when you see the cost of replacing it, glass beads are just about the best for what I do, but not cheap so this is the best way! Have a great week too.
Nice work Del
Great little tips
Nick Australia
Thanks Nick 👍
Another job well done, always daunting attempting crappy little screws 👏🏻
Sure is mate, it's a nervous lottery whether they crack or not, and satisfying when they do!
Haven't commented much on this series but really enjoying it, hope you're both keeping well
Thanks Alan, good to hear from you, and thank you so much for your long term support!
You can revive rounded over Allen keys by touching the ends up on a grinder. If you run out of nitromors, a strong caustic soda solution with added wallpaper paste can work.
All looking good sir. 😎👍🏍
Thanks 👍
Good job. Can't wait till fabrication starts. Stay safe peeps.
Thanks mate 👍
just what I like to see after a hernia operation I had at weekend, nice Finnish
Sorry to hear that mate, been there myself a few years ago, take it easy with your feet up, NO heavy lifting aye?!! Get well soon mate.
@@Moonfleet41 can't even ride witch makes it worse
After you blasted the speedo cover I thought you might paint over it, pitted as it was. Nope, nothing half-assed here, out came the bondo. Great video, can’t wait til it’s finished!!
Thanks mate, siimple and effective solution to pitted metal aye, it was a nice thick metal plate so no need to replace it, 3 layers of black floated out beautifully.
Kwel video…. Gonna be awesome!
Man that's loolimg awesome Del.
Excellent work Mate! Why not machine a nicely polished brass plate for the back and put your logo on it? a laser engraver would make that job look very spiffy! And if you don't have one I would be very happy to engrave any parts for you! DM Me if interested.
Good ole parts tinkering, can't beat the little stuff, makes all the difference. Bikes gonna look top drawer Del 😎👍
Thanks mate 👍, really happy with the progress!
love how your prep is spot on even for the small parts Del atb iain
Exceptional vid, Del. The photography is superb, too. Would the red rubber grease benefit some sun-bleached car bumpers? Have a great week, both of you! 🏍👍🏍
Hey there buddy, thanks for your kind words, not sure about the car bumpers, they're generally a hard plastic and I've heard all manner of remedies for that from boot polish to baby oil... (which I use on the wheel arches of my Land Rover!), and the tips of the MiL's horns....!
@@Moonfleet41 aah ok will try the baby oil approach then. Tell us all about the Land Rover! You need to feature it on a vid sometime. Love them… Defender?
That’s very kind of you to attend to the Mil’s horns so caringly. I just don’t have the time. I generally just use the hedge clippers but they sure do take a beating each time.. (the hedge clippers I mean!)
@@garya3056 No room to feature cars on the Channel sadly, but if there's a cheeky little job to do maybe one day, as long as it can help other people, it's an '88 Defender pick-up, ex-military one so still in olive drab and 33" tyres... Penny calls it 'Bovver Boots' !
@@Moonfleet41 awesome! Can’t wait to see it!
Enjoy your vids really well put together. Tbo not a fan on Harleys owned a xr1200 yrs ago and not that impressed but different strokes for different folks. Really like to see the Busa build come back..
[p] Nice job DB . Have you tried a product called power strip.
No Pete, I don't think I have, I don't use paint stripper often these days so I tend to grab whatever's to hand! Good to hear from you mate.
evening m8. had about given up. :)
As you can see mate, longer video than usual, took a lot longer to edit, but up now!
